Feature Request Log - Requests Only Please! Fri, 11 June 2010 22:33
The goal of this sticky thread is for existing players to use as a wish list of features they'd like to see added to the game after 1.0. Please do NOT post on this thread if you have not played the Online game yet, as you'd risk posting features that are already implemented.

Thank you,

The High Command Staff at M44 Online

Alright, thanks, Eric, for picking up my suggestion, I'll start and copy from the depth of another thread:

I like to see a more convenient way of zooming command cards together with the possibility to rearrange them manually, maybe this way:

1. Hovering over a single card automatically zooms it
2. Right click on any card zooms the whole hand in some kind of popup window, where you can rearrange your cards manually and then close the zoom view by clicking somewhere outside this window

I'll go ahead and jump in with some ideas! Cool

1. Create custom skins for the battle dice that players can buy or win during the game. They could be nation-specific or just slightly more detailed or something.

2. Create different backgrounds for behind the Memoir '44 board. Right now it's metal but we could have cool table cloths, wood, slate, grass, sand, etc. Again, these could be rewards for something or available for purchase.

3. Create custom skins for elite units. These would need to be different for each nation (or even each type of elite unit) and therefore might be a lot of work! Eric pointed out that the skins would have to still make the units easily distinguishable on the board (which I hadn't thought about).

4. Nation-Specific graphics for the "Your Turn" banner that flashes over the screen. They could be national flags or just iconic designs or colors for whichever side you're side represents.

5. Nation-Specific Medal icons on the medal stand. Right now they are just metallic circles (which means this idea might already be in the works) but it would be cool to have the medal stand reflect the nation you're playing as. American, British, French, German, etc.

Those are the ideas I've come up with so far. I'll bet the programers at DoW look as some of these ideas (if not all of them) and want to just head back to bed because they represent so much work!! Laughing That's the beauty of not knowing anything about that part of the system...I can make recommendations without even knowing what they involve! Cool

1.Giving Johnny a name that reflects the natinality he plays.

Suggestions for names by Yangtze
British: Tommy or Winston
Italian: Benito
Russian: Ivan or Josef
Japanese: Tomoyuki (as in Yamashita)
German: Fast Heinz (as in Guderian)

2. Having an animation for Medics and Mechanics when they fix units.

3. Automatic retreat when there is only one option of retreat.

Hello,

I suggest to change the font screen when the game is loading.

'Wakeup' facility.

After a two card Recon pick it would be nice if the discarded card were displayed somewhere, maybe above the draw deck, until the opponent plays their next card.

Where there is only one retreat possible make it an automatic action, with an on-screen notification perhaps.

Convert "usually plays between..." time to user's local time.

Ability to save and continue a game later.

Ability to spectate a game.

Hi!
In fact, I think it would be interesting to have, on a single click, a global view to my hand of cards, larger and easy to read. Another way could be a resume of the cards (1 Left, All Center, etc.) but it would be very different from the cards, I know).
Another interesting thing would be to have the possibility to rearange the hand. I like to have left cards on the right you know... Very Happy
Anyway, great entertainment indeed...

A few improvements:

- The resolution of zoomed cards (command and helper) is really not that great, some passages are even a bit difficult to read, needs to get sharper

- Perhaps an option (settings menu?) to speed up some animations (playing a card, attacking, ...), after a while they begin to protract

I really like that the online has 'hours of play preference' I think that's a great feature to show when players are generally on however, it may need tweaking.

I think it tends to average out the time or perhaps pick a time when I happened to be on a lot (perhaps over the weekend by chance) but it's not really accurate. I tend to be on in the am (pst). Perhaps as an option, players could manually override or adjust it?

Great idea, Malcolm!! To add on to your proposal, I wonder if it would be possible to provide a place for players to post a "will be online at ____ time" so you could passively tell everyone when you're planning to be online to play. This could be a very handy spot to look if I'm wanting to play against someone in particular.

En tous cas, on se régale, vraiment Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

C'est vrai que le jeu n'est pas achevé, mais surtout pour les fonctions annexes (rapports de bataille, classements, etc.). En revanche, en termes de jeu pur, il est déjà très remarquable. Bravo à toute l'équipe projet "M'44 On Line" Cool Cool Cool

I have a couple of requests that I think would be easy to implement.

I can't readily see how many actual wins or losses I have. I would think that would be associated beside the number of games I have played.

I can't see my scores for the battles I've fought, just my opponents. That should be easy to include.

Thanks Yann.

Another request...is there any way to see in the scenario list how many times I've played a scenario as either the Axis or Allies?

I know once the scenario is initiated, there is a 'number of times played' but it would be very handy to be able to look at the scenario list itself and see this. It would help in picking scenarios that I haven't yet played and perhaps avoid overplaying others.

Great job so far!

It might also be nice to pull down the Scenario Rules for a scenario while actually playing it. If this is already there and I haven't found it yet, please excuse my ignorance.

Click on the 'I' (for information) round icon on the top-left part of the screen when playing. It will display the Scenario Summary and Rules.

Sainte-Mère-Eglise

This scenario should have some way of indicating to the players which units are paratroops dropped at the beginning of the game... currently, you simply know that it's going to happen & then have random units in the field.

I kept waiting for something to click - then realized that wasn't going to happen.

Barring some kind of animation, a note in the special rules on how the online game handles paratroops would be nice.

In Expert Mode:

Since the rules aren't enforced and a unit could move more than once, battle more than once, etc. it would be great if there was some way to indicate which units have already moved and which ones have already battled.

This could be something like a little token or counter, or it could simply be a slightly different hex outline color.

The other thing that would be nice for Expert Mode would be some indication of where the units moved from. As of right now when you pick up a unit to move it, you have to remember where you started from. Maybe the starting hexes for all of the ordered units could be shaded a certain color or something.

Keep up the great work team!! It's a wonderful system already. Cool

We've talked before about how there are two colors when moving units: dark green indicates where a unit can move and still battle, light green indicates where a unit can move but not attack.

We've talked about how the colors are hard to differentiate for some players and how maybe the colors should be changed. I'm having trouble telling which color of green a hex is when it's on a hill. Normally I can tell the difference without any trouble but when it's on a hill, I can't tell and for players who don't know the rules it will make it impossible to know if they can attack from the hex.

I don't know if another color will solve this problem completely, but it's something to be aware of. Smile

Feature requests:

1. A rematch button at the end of a game, so players can quickly swap sides and play the same scenario again.

2. A spectator mode.

the board looks good but giving it some dimension.. a semi 3d tilt for example would be a nice option give some depth to the board.

probaly not possible but just a comment.

Requests:

1. Some indication of what obstacles are underneath units. It is hard to tell when you are on a hedgehog or barbed wire if you have a full unit. Maybe just a little icon in the corner of the hex to indicate what is underneath.

2. Also when the computer displays cards to choose from after a recon, it would be nice if it didn't block the board so you could get a good look at the current tactical situation before choosing.

Definitely like the rematch suggestion--great for those of us who are used to playing complete games, not just individual rounds. This is definitely something that should be encouraged.

another request to auto-sort the card, this is a habit of separating tactic and flank, and also left-center-right flank for easier thinking

or probably click and drag cards to arrange as our wish. I've tried to do that and several times looks like it's working, but then the card's arrangement was ruined Very Happy

and another feature to record a game so we can save it as a match log, and replay it in the future. This is simply what we did with the Ladder tourney and it's totally fun to watch a tense battle in the replay, just like watching NBA action, futbal mundial, or Premier League Highlight Very Happy

Click and drag to allow a player to re-arrange their cards how they wish.

An ingot cost on the scenario list in the lobby. (I know I can cancel out of a game any time before I hit start but I dislike choosing one, getting perhaps another player in with me, and then cancelling the game because the ingot cost seems to steep.)

Lower game costs. Five ingots to play one of the standard scenarios? Max should be three, IMHO.

Some way of seeing my own records/info without having to go back to the main startup screen. Why can I not see myself listed in the summary of online players in the lobby, for example?

A way to review played games. Even the last one of any scenario would be fine.

A rematch button. Yes, please!

Change the really bright move indicator green. Wow, too neon, and not in the visual spirit of the era/genre and game.

More later.

I have been playing for awhile now. And I have noticed if I play Saverne Gap as the Allies and strategically take the 2 towns to win versus the killing of units, I am downgraded for my efforts. I have UNDERPLAYED the scenario. This is because the rating for this and other scenarios is based SOLELY on the number of medals won.

I know in the context of your gaming system it may not be possible to correct this inequity, but thought I would make you aware of this disparity.

Great Game guys and brave of you to now have the masses send up their thoughts.

A couple of things I would see as an improvement:

1. As mentioned before, hovering over cards brings up a zoomed image of the card. It's more convenient than continuously R-clicking on cards.

2. A list of keyboard and mouse shotcuts. For now, much of the interface is a trial and error thing.

3. End of the Phase (Order/Move/Battle) should be anounced in the middle of the screen, not in the corner. It's where my eyes are fixed during play, it is where I expect to see important information.

4. Where's the UNDO button? I cannot change my mind after moving a unit?

5. Rearanging cards is not at all intuitive. You have no visual indication where your card is going to land. Here's a tip: when you grab and drag a card, the others slide aside so you see where it is going. Easy.

I hear what you are saying, but unfortunately it won't happen in 1.0. First, it's a daunting task technically (remember, it's a client-server architecture). And it would also cause gameplay issues. So we preferred to stick to the "tournament" tradition: when a piece is moved, it's moved.

I filed a bug report for this during closed beta and they are aware of it/working on it.

A feature that recognises a sudden death victory should bring up a THUMB UP in the statistic, because as you say: We didn't UNDERPERFORMED, we WON! Very Happy

The review feature is what they use to check the log files we send, and if I'm not mistaken its one of the features they are thinking about implementing for all of us to use. But not anytime soon.

A rematch button would be nice. It should save us precious seconds and would encourage people to play both sides of the scenario.

I would add to this feature that it should by default take you to the briefing room and switch sides for the players. THat way you can still change sides if you want another go at the same side without going through the "Operations Headquarter"
