Happy Birthday Rasmussen81 and the craziest battle I've ever fought! Sat, 19 June 2010 17:03
It's Jesse's birthday today! Happy birthday Jesse!

He caught me online for an early morning battle (both of our wives still sleeping). He wanted to try his hand at Cobra as the Axis. A little surprised he took the underdog side I decided not to take it easy on him just because it's his birthday.

Jesse played the Axis very well. He was clever in his defensive moves and made excellent use of the cover. I had to proceed with caution as it was clear Jesse was looking for a victory.

He got the upper hand early by knocking back all of my advances. Shots were exchanged but he held his ground. I had some really good cards (counter-attacks, Infantry assaults etc...) however, they were balanced out by 3 left flank cards that found that side pinned down.

So the fight went mostly on the right and in the center leaning toward that direction. Again, Jesse was crafty in his fight. Drawing in my units having to peak around corners to get shots exposing me to wicked fire (Jesse rolled hot a few times!).

I was getting desperate. The medal count was tied at 3 but I just couldn't close in on the right flank objective. I had no choice but to expose my units. Jesse made good use of the opportunity. Drawing in an infantry unit that was heading to the objective, here Jesse made a brilliant move. I thought it was all over...but his dice failed him and the unit survived.

Time now for a quick dash! Now operating off of one card (I didn't know there were that many left probes in the deck...but they were all certainly in my hand). I tried one last time for the objective...and failed.

Again, Jesse was ready to pounce. 2 units was all he needed and the field was strung out with weakened infantry and even armour. I was defenseless. Although Jesse made the right moves again, again the dice failed as my units ran for safety.

Nothing left but left flank cards in my hand I pushed on. My last chance to get the last medal. By the luck of the dice, the battle was mine.

Thanks for a memorable game Jesse. Thanks for all you have done for the community. It was a pleasure to play you, all the best wishes for your birthday!

Malcolm, thanks for such a glowing report on my loss! Very Happy Cool

It was definitely the craziest battle I've ever played and had the most chances for either of us to put the game away! Win or lose, it's always fun to play Malcolm online and this was even more fun than usual. What a great way to start my 29th year of life!!

Thank you, everyone! It was a very nice birthday...I had the early battle against Malcolm that I lost but was a close one (and close battles are always the best!!) and then my parents drove over from their farm and made me a very nice breakfast.

We went out a little later and put an offer to buy a wonderful house for my sister and her family only a few miles away from our house (my sister and her husband are missionaries in Malawi but when they return to the United States they want to live near my wife and I). The afternoon was spent working on my own house and then my wife threw a party for me in the evening with our friends.

Thank you for all the well-wishes from the Memoir '44 community! I believe it will be a wonderful year full of Memoir '44 and adventure! Take care and thank you again. Cool

Happy belated birthday...

don't ya just love games that come down to the wire...

Me and Roomie was playing BL Friday and he just squeaked his vic twice...

Your game reminded me of some of mine and Malcolm's vassal games a few years ago... Damn, has it been that long???

Be careful going up that hill, the down side going gets faster.
