Clicking on each brings up a higher res version. One of the nifty thing about Memoir '44 Online is that the UI scales up with your screen resolution. Enjoy!

Thanks for these shots. Interesting to see.

Still some work on those sandbag graphics, the 3D effect is the wrong way around, they look upside-down.

Those german infantry don't appear to agree with the armor on where the enemy is...

How long do those attack explosion animations take to play?

They both points their guns toward the same direction, even though the infantry soldiers looks like they are looking to the bottom left.

Can these be posted/linked to? In other words, can I stick one (or more) up on my blog now?

There is no java support on the iOS, so no Ticket to Ride, no Memoir '44, etc... unless we write native code for it.

Hate to be terribly nit-picky on my first post, but I am that way with my own game development, so, without sounding like a old cantankerous jerk I hope, I agree with bdgza ...

It's not the gun direction, Brice.

It appears, at first glance, as you pointed out, as though the German soldiers are moving towards the southwest whereas every other unit on the screen is aligned along a SE/NW axis. The German armour moving northwest, and all the Yank units pointing SE. The German infantry have to be rotated 120 degrees to the right to look correct to align their direction and movement with every other. It looks noticeably odd, otherwise, at least in this old designer's opinion.

Otherwise, this looks fabulous and I can't wait to play! And thank Bastet it's coming to OSX.

If I'd known about it earlier instead of having my head down finishing the coding up my eighth iOS game (this one for the iPad only) I'd have volunteered my almost 20 years of beta testing experience with Aspyr, EA, Feral, Adobe, Macsoft, Virtual Programming etc to help out.

Open beta soon, sigh.

Sorry but open beta won't be anytime soon yet, as we still have a lot we want to finish coding or polishing before then.

As for the german soldiers, we will have to disagree: They were designed to look the same way they do in the base actual boardgame, hence their stance, which won't change. Cool

No problem. I should, perhaps, have said "direction" though and not stance. Their stance/position/form is fine.

I know you won't change it but it is obvious that they're walking away from the enemy in those screen shots, unlike the German tanks. Similar to the German tanks, I would want to see, uh, the soldier's backsides as if they were walking up and to the left facing into their enemy.

Or does the direction the units are moving towards change depending on scenario and initial unit position?

But I appreciate the reply.

Might you adjust the shadow on the sandbags though so that it matches the rest of the shadows?

Back to coding now for me too.

Regards!

I must be missing something here...the German units (tanks and infantry figures) are all facing the top left corner of the screen. The Allied units (tanks and infantry figures) all face the bottom right corner of the screen.

They don't turn to face the attack coming at them, just like when you're playing the board game you don't turn your figures to face an incoming attack. The units face the same direction throughout the whole game and it gives the whole thing a very 'board game' feel.

Re:A few screenshots Thu, 08 July 2010 10:37
At first glance the axis infantry appear to be walking towards the bottom left. Especially at this scale the back of their helmets look easily like generic faces/star wars style storm trooper helmets. Only after the replies did I look again and see, yes, they are in fact looking top left.

Having had a quick glance at my axis plastic figures to compare. The plastic figures have their left leg forward, as have these, BUT the plastic figures have the gun then pointing towards their left, so the leg forward is INTO the shooting direction. These soldiers have their gun pointing right, on their back leg. This makes it look as it they are leaning back into an invisible wall or sitting on an invisible chair. Since that/falling over makes no sense, it looked to me as if they were walking forwards to the bottom left.

When the direction of the pointed gun was reversed, to not hide it behind the body of the soldier, the position of the legs should've been reversed as well.

Re:A few screenshots Thu, 08 July 2010 19:45
The issue seems to be with the orientation of the German soldiers in the screenshots. They should turn right 90 degrees in order to be facing the Allied opposition. If this were done, you would not see their faces or guns, but rather their backsides. Since this screenshot is from the perspective of the German player, this would be appropriate.

Next time I play a game, I will look to see if this is an issue with the current version of the game or just the screenshot published here online.

The tank guns and the infantry guns point the same way...

One side points northwest the other southeast

They look great to me... My figs are normally all over the place.

And I don't want to be looking at their butts all the time.
