Sure, its a nice idea, but:

if i remember right, we already had this discussion for one of our tournaments (dont know if it was NC or league or whatever). The major problem of this winning by 2 scenario is, that a game could last more than 3 to 4 hours.
Personally I don't like to play open end games cause if I schedule a game for e.g. 21:30 I know I will be ready between 11pm or midnight. If there is the possiblity for matches lasting more than 3 or 4 hours scheduling will be much more difficult.

I really like the challenging idea of win by 2, but then we need another rules concerning deadlines (e.g. if one match will last more than 8 games, the deadline will be prolonged for XX days). Otherwise I won't be able to play that tournament anymore ... (unfortunately...)

Just my two cents ...

Chris

The reason I like the idea better for this tournament than others is there are only 6 games played with a tie highly likely. Whereas in NC or something else the games are usually best of 5 or 7 or 9.

I just don't like the idea of the lower seeded player having an advantage over the higher seed. Maybe higher seed picks the map for 7th game and then just have a random start.

Edit: Curious - how would this tournament be structured in the knock out rounds if there were 7 maps (i.e. they added Nordic or EU1912, or something)? What would happen in the 7th game then?

We would just play in series of 7 games. In that case drawn games would be not so probable.

But who would play first during that game 7?

In league it alternate starts, then game 7 starting player is random.

In NC, something similar happens now.

So in this tournament, Game 1 is higher seed picks map and starts, then game 2 lower seed picks map and starts, etc. What happens game 7? Whatever the answer, should be what is done if its tied after 3-3 in this tournament. My guess is the answer should be random start game 7 (and if that game ends in a tie then the other player gets to go first game Cool.

Then you just have to decide who choses the map. And in this situation, I don't think there is as much of an advantage. So doesn't matter who picks the map since you only have a 50% chance of going first, so do you risk picking a map where going first is important or not??

Nice idea Drake... it is also easiest to manage.

Game 7 and followings will be (next year not this year) random start.
Game 7: map chosen by lower player (the one that started game 2,4 and 6)
Game 8: map chosen by the other player..

Grats. Was a good match.

I messed up the swiss game at the end. I could have got longest even with over drawing, which turns out I didn't need to do in the first place.

And the final mega game, I just needed one more turn (darn rules letting lower seeded player go first..LOL) or alternatively I should have only drawn to 42 cards instead of 44 to get that extra turn since I didn't need the 2 cards to win or at least tie (extra turn nets me either 30 or 38 depending on the cards I had left).
