Leaders of Small World Mon, 30 August 2010 17:24
Today I received my Leader of Small World tokens. Not bad for one cent!

I pretty much understand the instructions that came with it but nowhere does it say what to do with the crown tokens, the ones with the crown and the question mark.

Can anyone explain what these are for and how to use them?

Days of Wonder shipped my two expansions, I can't wait to get them!

My kids and I LOVE this game!

Thanks.

Those tokens are for races for which no specific Leaders token might exist (such as home-made races, or races that haven't been introduced yet).

Hi,

I read your post and unlike you I do not understand how to use the leaders. It sounds to me that they are only giving you an additional counter for 1 and come with a drawback. How/why would you use them? I am little lost here ... help please?

That's pretty much what they are. The advantage to them is the options that they give & the usefulness they have to lower-count races. I know some people don't like, and that's fine, but our group likes to use them mainly because they give more options.

Finally, it's important to note that they also protect your forces, you lose the hero but not one of your race tokens, which can matter a lot in close games.

As for specifics when they are good: they are usually good with the dwarves. They are good with Merchant if they give you the last token needed for taken another region (which means you come out +1 coins). They are good with skeletons, if you need 1 last region to give you an additional race token. They are great with Commando & Tritons, as both of those powers can allow you take regions for only 1 token. They are also great with Marauding, as they effectively are 2 race tokens.
