is m44platoon working? Sun, 02 January 2005 22:20
There is a link on m44platoon.com to view personal pages, but I can't find a way to create one, so I decided to submit some of my content as an article. So much for the WYSIWYG editor, there is no option to save a draft (that I have found)and no undo facility, so each mistake you have to start over. Add to this the fact that it keeps timing out, so after writing a large piece of text it says that you are not logged on and you loose the lot.

Not to be out done I noticed that it supports RTF so I wrote the article in word, saved as RTF reopened and did a cut and paste. The formating was allover the place and the pictures were lost.
OK, lets reformat and import the pictures..... Oh no it's timed out again.

But, whilst trying to upload pictures I noticed that you can import files, problem solved. I saved the document as HTML, tested it in a browser, locally and remotely, then imported it. All I got was a link to my local drive.

It had been a week of trying already so I decided to start from scratch, Cut and Paste plain text, format in the editor and save, without pictures, so that I can edit later and add the pictures. Well that was a week ago and my article has disappeared into a black hole. No sign of it anywhere on m44platoon, my account or the editor.

/rant on
I know that it is the holiday period, and I have spent the two weeks of it trying to submit a simple article. If m44platoon is going to be used, it needs to work in the first place.
/rant off

On a more pleasant note "Happy New Year" to all, and lets hope that we get the Expansion and an On-line version during 2005.

Cheers
Chris

Hello Soldier,

It's effectively Holliday and the DoW team is out of office until next week !

The fan site is only a beta version with some unfixed bugs !

A+

Thanks,

Is that why the post disappeared?

It could be awaiting approval, that of course makes sense, but an automated notice to say pending would have been appreciated.

I still thought that I would be able to edit it, even if it was not approved for general release.

Like you say it is Beta Code and after the hectic release of Memoir'44 I guess the team deserve a holiday, perhaps more so than I do, so I can't begrudge them that.

Cheers

4 weeks now and still no sign of my article.
Has it been rejected or is this a bug?

I need to access it, so that it can be updated.
Should I rather post the updated version and risk having a duplicate?

Eric, DOW Team, please help.

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

There is no approval process. The "publishing" process may have been a little confusing and cumbersome though. Your article was there, but it was not "published" so not available in public.

The details are in the article that Yann posted on Nov. 24 called, "How to write an article" on the m44 platoon site. At the bottom it gives you the steps that you need to follow to make sure the article is published. Make sure you have the "State" is turned on to "Published", the Access level is Public, and that the start and finish dates are what you want. Then you have to scroll back up and click on the diskette symbol to save the changes.

I already did this for your article and it's now available in public and on the list of Latest Content on the home page.

Embarassed Thanks

even a bunker with sandbags on a hill would offer me no defense in the face of my own stupidity.

Sorry if I came across as rude, I will now crawl away and dig a big hole. Sad

Cheers

Hey Marko,

thank you very much for this little userguide. Some weeks ago I submitted an article and was waiting for it's approvel until now. Embarassed

After realizing, that I had to "approve" it myself I tried again and it worked. Very Happy

Again thanks for your help.

Doc (now one step closer to enlightenment...)

Chris,

No problem. It wasn't stupidity on your part. I had to go read the instructions through because I didn't remember the process either and it's not immediately intuitive. And don't worry about venting your frustration. Technology that doesn't behave the way you expect (or want) it to is annoying and it makes me cranky too!

There is no Approval required! I know it is easy to miss, but all you need to do, when logged in, is to select the proper status in the pop-up menu at the bottom of the page when you are in the edit mode, and the article will then automatically appear once you submit.
I will try and see if there are articles "in waiting" (we know, it's not obvious, it is something we will improve as soon as we can find the time Sad ) on M44platoon.
