More Ambushes?

Here's an idea for a House Rule. In games set in very close terrain (Burma jungle, Ardennes etc.) or in poor visibility (Ardennes, night time etc.) where Air Power and Barrage cards are often removed from the deck, why not keep them in but treat them as Ambush cards?
I haven't play-tested this idea but it seems to offer a few opportunities.

I like it!! It would certainly make players think twice before rushing in for a Close Assault every turn.

An interesting idea for sure, but I would probably not like it so much. The reason is that I like the way this game always seem to favour aggressive action and playing style. It's part of what makes the game "fast-paced" and a big contribution to the short gaming-time, something I value a lot.

could have used a bunch of ambush cards last night against Sam E.
in Japanese CounterAttack.....daylight stayed at 2 and then 3 most of the game.

I like this idea, but think it would have to be specific to the scenario. If you're playing a battle in the Pacific, for example, where the Japanese were on the defensive most of the time (and therefore in position to have more ambushes), it wouldn't make sense to give that advantage to the attacking Americans.

Don't forget that this idea would only add 2 more Ambush cards...not very many, really. It would just make someone think twice about close assaults with a weak unit.

I agree, the rule should be terrain / scenario specific. I think Burma lends itself to this idea, where there was very close combat, attack and counter-attack and both sides acting agressively.
Glad my idea generally got a thumbs up from you guys.

Won't this be covered in the next Combat deck?
The one about jungle fighting.
Honestly, who here doesn't think we will see that one "soon"?
The Pacific Theater is due some attention IMHO.

If there is a new Pacific expansion, I hope it's a bit broader than just US island-hopping. Jungle Combat deck, plus enough scenarios for a Burma min-campaign would be brilliant.

Agreed -- some Japanese/British scenarios would be fun, as would Japanese/Chinese.
