More first impressions ... excellent

Managed six games tonight against a variety of opponents (Tim, Phil as guest, Vulch and the Eric). Managed three wins and three losses with apologies to Tim for making a few UI errors in my first game.
Overall impression? A solid 8/10. Wonderful gameplay, good UI, fun battles. Overall the interface has been pretty well thought through. As a manager of UI design, I found most things where they should be after one play. I especially appreciate being able to right click on everything (units and terrain) to remind myself of movement or battle restrictions, unit types, etc.
I'd like to see the Allied/Axis cost of a scenario in the lobby before clicking through to the game ... I know if you cancel out you get you ingots back but I hate starting a game then dropping out of I don't want the cost and disappointing a potential opponent.
That doesn't deter me from highly recommending the game, though. While it was quiet this evening (I never saw more than 10 people online) everyone's friendly and wants a game. The game did not crash or hiccup at all. The animations are fun and well as the sounds and music. I think one of the battle sounds is missing when one of the more special cards gets played (artillery?) but I'll report that when it happens again.
So, how does it feel though compared to the physical game? Exactly the same without the hassle of setting everything up! The rolls come and go ... I had good rolls and bad rolls all night. When the cards come together it's great, and even when the game isn't going your way there is always a way to put up a good challenge by intelligently using your cards. In one game, I was one turn away from using a barrage to destroy a sole infantry unit to win, but at the same time, my opponent's last turn removed one of my damaged units for the win. Tough loss, but fun.
The game is immersive, no doubt. Excellent start and I'll be happy to buy more ingots to feed this habit. Congrats to DoW on the excellent work to date.

just played one against david and two against bots, overall i'm also impressed with the interface and others.
got two questions :
1. if i host a game to invite other player, how to decide which side i pick, or does it automatically picked Axis for host ?
2. how to play Ambush when people attack ? usually in vassal, there's a pause whether we want to play ambush or not, but in my game, looks like david has ambush but doesn't give a chance to play, the dice was rolled automatically
thanks

Hate to say this but it's worth reading the user guide before heading into battle.
1. The person that initiates the invitation (ie the one who invites the other) gets to select which side he (and thus his opponent) plays on. Of course, we encourage players to discuss this with their opponent, as a matter of fair play.
2. You need to "arm" the Ambush ahead of time. I recommend reading the guide regarding that part, as there is more involved to understand what happens there.
Glad to hear both of you enjoyed your games (and congrats to DaveyJJ for the whooping he handed me at Sword Beach )

I understand.
That's why we decided to post the user guide yesterday, one day ahead of the actual release, hoping this would give people a chance to read the guide before being too tempted to jump right in.
The flip side of that was that we knew people would immediately jump to conclusions re the Gold Ingots, without simultaneously having a chance to download the game and see for themselves first hand that there is nothing nefarious in that scheme.
Oh well, the good news is people who do try the game seem to enjoy it

As one of the people that have played this game during closed beta, 10 people online is superbusy.

This is Awesome!!!
I've been playing for over 5 hours, I've used half of my Gold Ingots and I'd stay up longer, but I have work tomorrow.
It's after 2AM!!!
I played against some great human opponents -- thanks Jingo and Cozmos -- and Johnny, who is really a great opponent. DoW, you really outdid yourselves with this online game.
The only problem I noticed was when using Dig-In on Sword Beach. The sandbags didn't seem to show up, but I think the dice were reduced anyway. Unless I don't know how to use that card. I assume that after ordering your four units, the sandbags should just appear.
Great time -- already have a promotion and several achievements (including Bring the Boys Back Home)! Great job! I can't wait to wake up and play again tomorrow!
Can you tell I'm a little tired (and excited)?

i'd like to report a bug about dice rolling
there's a situation (or two maybe) where I still have 2-3 units to battle, and when i double click, the dice won't roll, and i keep clicking and wait about 1 minute, and nothing happened and it forced me to skip the entire battle, which is a terrible waste
so probably there should another button for manual roll or something like that ? and to resolve casualties manually if there's something like this happened ?
Thanks

Enjoyed our games last night, was 1am before I got to bed.
I have also made a few "cock ups" by clicking too quickly or on the wrong card. As the instructions say, you just need to think before you play. It has also made me realise how many times when playing the board version I have not taken my opportunity to overrun. Also noticed some interesting tactics bymy opponents, so I am learning all the time.
Great game. Great adaptation. Lovinit

I don't know about anyone else, but I am really enjoying being able to play against so many players from around the world who I kind of feel like I know from the forums here! So fun!!

Downloaded and played my first Play Solo on Sword Beach and yes, excellent is the right word for the Memoir'44 Online. Works so nice on my 21" iMac (Mac OS X 10.6.5). Thanks, next I hope I can find someone to play against, see you...

With so many people in the Open Beta I hope it wasn't hard to find a willing opponent!
