List of Achievement Awards and Ribbons Thu, 11 November 2010 17:59
Original post below: I'm moving the list to the top of the thread so everyone can find it.

Wet Feet - played a beach scenario on the water side -- gray over blue
Basic Combat Training - completed first game -- silver rifle on blue background
I was There - played Omaho as Allies, or a difficult scenario as Axis (I got this one at Toulon)-- three white crosses on a green background
Historian - played a scenario on its historical date (Saverne Gap Nov. 19-21)-- white book on a purple background
Warrant Officer - introduced a newbie to the game -- vertical gold stripe on burgundy background, oval shaped
Advanced Combat Training - battled using both Infantry and Armor -- silver rifle on red background
Bring the Boys Back Home - all infantry survived -- gold star on a red background, bordered by two vertical white stripes
Artillery Specialist - Killed 2 units with Artillery - Specialist Badge - gold cannon on green background
Lucky Bastard - Totally Wiped out a Full-strength unit with a single dice-roll - Specialist Badge - white four leaf clover on a green background
Omaha Victory - Won Omaha as Allies - Specialist Badge - French flag left on a blue background
Objectives Specialist - Captured all land objectives - Specialist Badge - world map on a blue background
Total Victory - Opponent lost with 0 medals - Expert Award - medal on a blue background, bordered by white and red stripes
Commando Specialist Armour Badge - Kill 5 units with special forces -- red tank on gray background
Arnhem Victory - Won Arnhem as Axis -- Dutch flag left on orange background
Commando Specialist Infantry Badge - Kill 5 units with special forces -- red sword on gray background

Original post here:

I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but I'm curious about how you earn the ribbons and rank promotions online.

Do you choose which nation's army you are a member of? or is it based on which side you play more often? which armies can you choose? I think I've seen France, Germany and the US next to people's avatars.

Are the ribbons from winning specific battles? or are there larger goals?

I can't wait until next week...

Geoff

I'm in a lul of packing craziness...so I'll answer some of your questions:

Ribbons are actually called "Achievements" and they are earned for a variety of things including winning certain battles, getting a certain number of kills with specific unit types, etc. I have 9 achievements but was informed that I've only found some of the easy ones!! The number of achievements will also increase over time so you can keep working to find them and earn them!

Rank is determined by the number of battles you've played, how you've done, etc but that part will become much more clear with the launch of Open Beta. In essence, players will be promoted as they play more and improve their skills. Players can represent many different nations and you can switch 'aliegence' whenever you want. So if you're feeling French, you can be a French captain. The next day you can become a Japanese 'captain' or a Russian 'captain'.

In case people missed this from before, you can only earn achievements and increase your rank by playing "Normal Games" against other people. Solo mode and the eventual Expert mode will not earn you any rank or achievements.

You're going to love it!! Very Happy

Wow. They really know how to hook a player like me...

So, it sounds like you don't know which achievements are available until you unlock them. I assume that when they are earned they tell you what they are for.

Someone's going to have to compile a list of achievements and how they are obtained... In fact, it's most probably in my nature to do so.

This is too exciting! I'm really anxious to get going...

On the bottom of Rasmussen81's post is a row of ribbons (achievements).

It sure would be nice to have a small pop-up showing what each ribbon is and how it was won when you hover over the ribbon.

We have something like this on our to-do list Razz
A special BB tag that would build all this automatically. Not sure when it will become available (there are a couple of technical issues to work out), but we definitively want to do it.

In the meantime, you can control what to display under your name and avatar. By default, it is your officer rank, but you can put one of your Achievements if you prefer. This is accomplished by going to your Profile.

Enjoy,

Yann

It's coming... Cool

Look at the Memoir '44 Online page and you'll notice that there is an "Achievements" button and a "Officer Ranks" button that are transparent. When they are ready, we'll be able to click there to see more information about how to get some of the achievements and how to advance in rank!

Not all of the achievements will be listed (so there is still some mystery) but it'll be a good start to give us more direction. Smile

Since DoW has much more important things to work on -- I propose that we start a list in this thread. Post the awards you've gotten and I'll add them to this list.

We'll start with the ones I've received, and now I'm adding in ths ones below:

Wet Feet - played a beach scenario on the water side -- gray over blue
Basic Combat Training - completed first game -- silver rifle on blue background
I was There - played Omaho as Allies, or a difficult scenario as Axis (I got this one at Toulon)-- three white crosses on a green background
Historian - plyaed a scenario on its historical date (Saverne Gap this weekend)-- white book on a purple background
Omaha Victory - Won Omaha as Allies - Specialist Badge -
Objectives Specialist - Captured all land objectives - Specialist Badge -
Total Victory - Opponent lost with 0 medals - Expert Award -

What else is there?

I'll try to add description of the ribbons later. And I'll add the category as well.

Geoff

Artillery Specialist - Killed 2 units with Artillery
Lucky Bastard - Totally Wiped out a Full-strength unit with a single dice-roll.

I suspect there may be a paratroops one, but can't find any online opponents to play St Maire Eglise and check...

I found a strange thing that I've played over 30 games, but I never get a "basic combat training" Achivement.

Is that a bug?

That's Objectives Specialist, the player who captured all land objectives will get one.

And I also like to know your achivement, which has a French Flag on it.

I guess I must play a scen with French Resistance and win?

I'm sure there is a medal for doing something great as the French Resistance, but the achievement you're seeing was awarded for winning Omaha Beach as the Allied player. The stars lined up for that one! Laughing

Done. We're still missing a description for the total victory medal. And Jesse and Oros have a medal that is red, white, and blue with a pin -- which award is that?

I think Brummbar44 has some not on the list as well...

I got Lucky Bastard and Artillery Specialist last night. I was one move away from the objective in a scenario, but I needed to win so I didn't get it.

rasmussen81, Oros,

How do you get the ribbons to appear in your signature?

Here are the steps I followed:

1) Take a screen shot of your ribbons at the size you want them to appear in your signature.

2) Save the resulting image to an online picture hosting site. I used Photobucket because it's free and I already had an account.

3) Using the picture hosting site, get a 'forum html address' or something like that. Many of the sites will generate this link for you very easily.

4) Click on the "My Account" link here on the DoW site that is in the top right corner of your screen, just under your User Name.

5) Under your avatar, find the "Change My Profile" link. Click on it.

6) Scroll down to the "Signature" section under Preferences.

7) Paste the link that you created of your picture from the photo sharing site.

8. Before the link, type "[img]" and then after the image, type "[/img" (but finish the last bracket...if I do it looks funny.

9) Save it and you've got yourself a nifty little banner at then bottom of each post.

I hope these steps help! Anyone is welcome to do the same. I look forward to seeing some cool new signature pictures! Very Happy

Thank you very much for the directions!

Eventually our badges might be shown off automatically by DoW but for now they are focused on bugs in the game and continued improvements (which I prefer anyway). Have fun!

I don't know about hauptman, but wild guess is to have a lot of outperformances ? So even if you lost a battle but you gained a higher medal than the average, you gain thumbs, is it because of that ?

Possibly...but I have outperformed a pretty high percentage...so I don't think it's that. I understood it had something to do with playing all of the scenarios...but I've done that.

Not sure why...maybe because I've been cheap and haven't played all of the scenarios with all of the elites?

I guess playing all maps shouldn't be the one because I realized I haven't played vasseux yet, another guess is to win, say over 20 different opponents or something like that?

That's exactly why...battles that aren't played with all of the elite troops don't count toward Rank or Achievements. It was one of the early things we found out in Closed Beta. Smile

I think that's the only one I have that most don't.

hi Mac, where do you get the commando ? should be St.Vith ?
that's awesome bro Smile

Hey Steve,

Yep, you guessed it. Lot's of Elite Axis armour there to do the job.

However, how I am not a Hauptman yet, I don't know?

Just got commando and arnhem couple days ago, cool stuff Very Happy

I don't know about hauptman, but wild guess is to have a lot of outperformances ? So even if you lost a battle but you gained a higher medal than the average, you gain thumbs, is it because of that ?

Hi folks, I get promoted to a Hauptmann and get Arnhem Victory today, with 100 games I've played, 12th my rank.

So I think to win a underdog scen would be a major condition, if you want to get yourself promote.

Well, just guess. Now I can return to my home field--St.Vith and Arracount! Laughing Cool Razz Smile Very Happy Twisted Evil
