And the ingames chats should be also privat.

They are. As soon as you have two players in the Briefing room, and then during the of the battle, all communications are private.
They are public when your are in the Operations Headquarters and when you play solo.

Yann

The confusion might be from the fact that you can still see all of your chatting from the battle field...but that's because you were there! Very Happy Nobody else can see what you talked about once you return to the lobby.

I understand what Bayernkini is saying. It would be good to have two separate windows -- one for the Lobby and a second, private one that would open when you start a game.

Give players the option to close the Lobby window when they're in a game, but it may be useful for them when they see that a buddy is out there, for example, if they're nearing the end of their current game.

Clearly label the Lobby and private windows (or if there's only one window, clearly label which window the the player is in).

And while we're on the subject, when the game ends and it jumps to the statistics screen:

1. Don't clear the private dialog window. Twice, I was in the middle of typing a message of congratulations or condolences to my opponent when the window cleared. I assume they received garbled transmissions.

2. After the game ends, I can't find a way to get back to see the final position. How can I do this? It's useful when writing AARs. Also, part of the fun is being to savor one's victory.

1.) perhaps you could put a maximum cost for playing the underdog in unbalanced scenarios - (i.e. if one sides favoured by 80% win max 2 gold, >90% 1 gold. To encourage play of these scenarios
2.) Add some sound to the invite notification. So i can check the forum while hanging in the lobby without missing the invites.

I think for the online game is really necessary a match-making, as it happen in lots of internet games.

I press a button and the system find an opponent with the closest ELO.

(Sorry for my bad english)

Suggestion 1: woud love an Undo botton or a Confirm Move Button after a move is done.

Suggestion 2: Be able to so see the card you have just counter-attacke. Sometimes you just forget what card it was and have no way to check it besides its name. All players dont know all details about all cards.

Suggestion 3: A way to see on the game preview what happens if you turn on and off extra ingot stuff, example upgraded tanks or commando units, to get a better wiev of what you get for your ingots at the game start.

Suggestion 4: If you chose to arm the ambush card, make it able to force chose a unit of your choise, sure the AI is great, but sometimes i would love to force one of my units to ambush instead of teh one the AI thinks is best.

Suggestion 5: Also add a opponent ready button, to the game lobby.

(sorry for my typos and bad gramar)

When the window pops up asking if you want to overrun, it would be nice to be able to move the window around so we can see the board.

Being able to see the board would also be helpful when trying to choose what card to keep after a recon (1) in force is used.

It would be really cool if we could see our wins/losses/overperform/underperform statistics totaled by the scenario played, opponent played (or just Johnny, as opposed to live opponents), and side (Axis/Allies) played.

That would let me know which scenarios I need to work on.

It also be good if we could see - in the service record - how our opponent performed. Did they over or under perform in their result.

It's possible I've missed this and the feature already exists, but i'd love to see a surrender option where I can leave the game early without any honor loss. There are times where real life events force you off the computer, and i'd like to be able to graciously give the victory to my opponent when that time comes.

This issue would be particularly helpful in beta, as I've dropped 3 times from games(my satellite internet's fault) and on each re-entry to the game it has completely glitched. It would be nice at those times to either surrender, or agree to a draw with my opponent.

Right now my honor is at 2 stars, and i'm sure it will probably drop to 1 star in due time, simply because i'm forced to exit out of glitched games. I don't care about my win rating, but i would hate to have difficulty finding a game because of my honor rating.

Need a War Chest amount in the service record area, the only place you can see how many GI credits you have left is to select a game but not start it.

Having a War Chest window in the buy area would also help.

An option I would like to see added is not so much in the actual Memoir Online program but on the DoW website.

I would like to be able to see what the status of the game is (Up or Down), the list of players etc so I can decide on that info if I want to start up the program or not.

An automatic Battle Report/AAR to DoW site. Or are the online battles supposed to be kept separate? They could be marked as online games, too.

in the scenario list, if you click on a top green scenario, you have to hit play to find out who is on the other side.

how about a name and side selected next to the map in the info box at the bottom???

There are certain elements of human activity that I feel are missing in the online version of the boardgame. Some of the human activity can be covered by the chat box but this is not so elegant.

In my gaming group there is a certain element of banter whilst the other player is taking their turn; false advice, questioning tactics, etc. I'm sure we are not the only ones, but a way to quickly reproduce this activity in the interface would be nice. Something along the lines of pre-written texts, sharp intake of breath sounds that sort thing.

In addition to that communication there are certain things you do with your cards whilst playing that can mislead the opposition. Firstly the fondle a card pretending it is an Ambush whilst the other player is moving to attack you etc. The other element is that of the clumsey player, in that they often knock over of their command cards face up.

Perhaps in the future some of these elements could be incorporated for those players that wish to have them. Pay one less ingot/get a free medal etc. to play as X in mission X whereby your cards will accidentally be exposed in the game.

Anyway those are just some silly thoughts that might make others think about elements of the board game they don't think are represented here.

My group find the card orientation on the left of the screen somewhat lacking. When we play we leave the card the way up it makes sense to the player playing and the opposition. Mainly so you don't have to always think about the left or right flank played. It would be nice to see an invert sectional opposition cards option.

I would like to see :

1 - Keyboard shortcuts
2 - Undo button for Move
3 - Chat with bigger fonts
4 - More scenarios (please !!!)
5 - Improved statistics for my battles

Its a good start the game as it is . But I think it can have a lot of improvements to make it even better !!!

You ll have my support (money) as long someone confirms that we ll have at least more official scenarios .

Thanks ! Keep up the excellent work so far !

I had a situation where received 2 invites right in a row. One was from the person I was just playing with, and we wanted to switch sides. Then the second came in on top of it. When i declined the second invite, I could no longer see the first, so I had to be invited again.

It would have been nice to just decline one and accept the other.

You want the DoW staff to improve your statistics?! Isn't that your job as the player? Laughing

Just kidding...I think I know what you mean but you might want to explain this one a little bit more. Smile

I'm not from DoW, but I can assure you that there will be more scenarios coming. In Closed Beta we talked about this a little bit and the DoW staff will be working on (if they aren't already working on) the programing of other Official Scenarios. This is not something you have to worry about at all...it is a guaranteed element of the Memoir '44 Online system!! Cool

sometimes something may happen and a player must leave, i guess a surrender option be able in order he does not lose karma for abandoning but instead has to really go so i guess a single loss is better than loss and minus karma

a check of line of sight for the possible moves a unit can do before it moves

Absolutely!

Also, writing up AARs should take place on game over/summary screen, not a separate screen. There is more than enough room to put the AAR writing area under the game stats. Encourage more use of this feature, no?

Along the same lines here, if one has accepted an invite, have all other invites be automatically declined. I've yet to see this happen but if it not implemented, sure be nice to do. Since a player really can only play one game at a time (usually!).

I use the wrong word. "Detailed" is better.

Another cool feature I would like to see is the rating stars for scenarios !

But we as long as can see DoW is taking really care of his baby . Update after update M44 online will , eventually, become a great game system !

One thing i'd like to see is the option at the start which both plaayers agree to for both players to have a rematch on opposite sides. The only drawback to this online version is the number of lurkers who only want to play the side with situational advantage. An option to play a one of cenario or a rematch 2 game scenario should be available. I play for fun but its getting a tad annoing where it seems in my experience the maajority of people only want to play the situationally advantaged side. Especially if you have rankings then some people will only play certain scenarios

Hi... I've been played 3 games by now, and one thing I relly miss, a 'undo' button (or something)...

Can you programers put something like that to avoid we lost a turn 'cause we missclick your commanders??

Regards from Brazil...

Welcome to the forum and welcome to Memoir '44 Online! Very Happy I hope you're enjoying yourself.

It is very unlikely that there will ever be an "undo" button. This is tournament rules, so you have to take your time and think through your moves because once you let go of a piece...or play a card...you are committed!

Good luck and have fun! Cool

It would be nice if an accidental double click on the "Drder Done" button didn't also click the "Move Done" button - so no movement was permitted.

Some filtering of button clicks needs to be done so that this doesn't occur - or a confirmation dialog when you don't move any units.

If you want to get really flash, DoW, a confirmation dialog could have a checkbox to allow the player to say "Don't ask me again"

Keep up the good work

First... I'm shocked I didn't know about this beta sooner. Luckily Talespinner sent me an email.

Second. Personally I'd like the targets for cards like Barrage and Air Power to be picked in the battle phase on the Order phase.

In my mind when I'm rolling dice those targets should be picked in the battle phase. However if I'm alone in this it should at least be made more clear to new players that these cards targets are picked in the order phase.

Other than that, so far I think it's great!

Some of this is repeat of above posts... but,

1. I'd like to see a swap sides rematch button.

2. An option to find players willing to do 2 games instead of 1.

3. The lobby chat could use some work. I'm never able to tell when I'm chatting in the lobby or chatting to someone.

4. Could the ignore and buddy buttons be a be actual words instead of those icons? I had no idea what they were until someone told me. Perhaps check boxes like Invisible.

5. I'd like to the option to be Invisible to everyone except the people on my buddy list.

6. Would be nice if there was a bug report button right in the client. (right now I need to go find the bug report page so I can report that dig-in sand bags don't display for the other person... at least in 1 game I played).

Other than that... so far so good. The game itself is very well implemented, it's just the lobby that needs some work.

I would like to be able to select an officer-nationality from one of the other Nations (Finns in this case, but I would guess Nationalist/Comunist Chinese or Polish officers might be of interest to some players).

Re:Feature Request Log - Beta-testers Only Please! Mon, 29 November 2010 14:30
1)SETTINGS
a) Have different sounds for different purposes. Perhaps user-selectable.

2)LOBBY SCREEN - SCENARIO LIST
a) What is the 'Rating' column for?
b) Show the cost of each scenario.
c) In the long run, when there are hundreds of scenarios (or thousands, with SFTF), it would be good to have all the same search capabilities as the Scenario database. (And if that can be based on a true search feature, rather than indexing, it would become easier to find scenarios like Valkenswaard and Suomussalmi.)

3)LOBBY SCREEN - PLAYERS LIST
a) Show player ratings on the main screen.
b) For players who are in 2-player games, indicate who is playing against whom? Enquiring minds want to know. Smile
c) When a player challenges you to a game, make that Invitation window movable, so you can move it to see the scenario odds and/or the list of other available players.
d) When a player challenges you to a game, give space to write a short note when you decline an invitation. Several times, I've had do Decline, because I was talking with someone else about playing one, or preparing to do a rematch with someone, and I didn't want to seem rude.

4)COMMUNICATION
a) Make it possible to private-message a player (A) when both players are in the lobby, and (B) when the players are in different rooms. This would help them negotiate prospective games. But also give players the option of a do-not-disturb button, so they can't be 'PM'ed.
b) Text editing is clunky. For example, it doesn't seem to allow pasting - which means you can't type something, delete it to say something else first, and then return to the initial statement.
c) This is weird: When I type a message that begins with a numeral, the numeral usually doesn't appear. This doesn't happen to me anyplace else, so I assume it's specific to M-Online.
d) Label the dialog windows, so you know whether you're talking in the lobby or private room.

5)SCENARIO SCREEN
a) When you've opened a battle and are trawling for opponents, make it possible to see who's in the Main Room - perhaps with a pull-down.

Re:Feature Request Log - Beta-testers Only Please! Mon, 29 November 2010 14:34
Part 2 of my list:

6)GAME BOARD / GAME PLAY

a) Congratulations - in general, it's such a smooth interface that a beginner can play it after just reading the manual (though he probably won't win). I played one game where not a single word was uttered by my opponent. (Maybe he didn't even understand English, for all I know.)

b) Ambush policy is flawed. I've tried it your way with an open mind, and I find that it really detracts from the game. I've seen several really bad calls by Johnny. The simpler and better solution would be to have the defender confirm all close assaults. Second-best solution would be to let players restrict Ambush to certain friendly or enemy units.

c) I didn't see the Wrench icon in the upper left-hand corner (Settings) mentioned in the manual. (Did I miss something?) I was afraid to click it during a game, since I didn't know if it would throw me offline.

d) Make the units a little smaller, so it's easier to see the underlying terrain. (This will become important when more terrain types are introduced.)

e) When a 3-4 figure infantry is on a Hedgehog, it's hard to see the Hedgehog.

f) When dice are rolled against units at the far right edge of the board, one of the dice is cut off, even with the board scaled as small as possible. (This is true in Window mode, with the window maximized. I don't know if it's true in full-screen mode.)

g) Recon-1 -- I want to see the board when I have my card choice. This is important, strategically.

h) Recon-1 -- Rejected card should be visible to both players (even if it has to be shaded and adjacent to the discard pile).

i) Players should be able to sort their cards when it's the opponent's turn, too.

j) Sorting hands is awkward. I always worry that I'm going to accidentally play a card, instead of moving it to the right.

k) When you click the Info button to get another look at the scenario's special rules, put the Close button in the upper left corner of that window, so players don't have to go all the way down to the bottom of the screen.

l) Add an option to save a game, to resume at a later time, so players don't have to abandon a game when they need to do something in real life. This will be essential when Breakthrough and Overlord scenarios become available.

Part 3 of my list. (You asked for testing. You got testing. Thank you for asking.) I hope this all is helpful.

7)STATISTICS SCREEN (AFTER GAME)

a) At end of game, keep players in the room until they choose to leave. It's hard to write an AAR (or to savor one's victory) if you can't see the board. Also, make this 'report' compact, so players can see their final statistics and the board at the same time.

b) Specifically, show the final position when the AAR window is open, so players can see the position they're writing about.

c) Should game results automatically be posted to the AAR database? Should players be given an option to post the game results when it's over? (I think I like the idea of giving players the option after the game.)

d) Indicate when the opponent has left the room after the game. A few times, I've continued talking to opponents who had already logged off or joined another game.

e) And while you're still in the room after the game, have a Swap button, to make it easy for them to swap sides and play a rematch.

8.)PLAYER STATISTICS & SERVICE RECORDS

a) Officer Career page

. i) Show statistics for All of the player's games, not just the breakouts for Allies and Axis.

. ii) Include the number of wins & losses, and winning percentage

. iii) Include the player's 'Outperformed' percentage.

. iv) Tell how the player's rating compares with others. (Numeric ranking? Percentile?)

b) Service Record page

. i) The date of a game should match the date in his time zone. I have found many of the dates to be a day off of when they were played. Example: I played 5 games on the morning of 11/26 (Arracourt, Montelimar, and Vassieux) and 2 games in the afternoon (Paris and Saverne) that are listed as 11/25.

. ii) The Service Record report is hard to read.

. (1) Create a separate column for the opponent's. It's hard to read when combined with the opponent's name.

. (2) Make separate columns for won-lost and outperformed-underperformed.

. (3) The symbols for 'outperformed' and 'underperformed' look too similar.

. iii) Once people have played a large number it will be highly impractical to find anything in the Service Record report.

. (1) Make it scrollable as a single page, like the AARs on the main Memoir website. Please! That's much easier than dividing it into pages.

. (2) Make it filterable by date, scenario, front, opponent, and possibly even score.

. (3) When sorting Service Record by opponent, scenario, or date, include subtotals. (Date subtotals could be by month, if you want to include them.)

. (4) Show the player's cumulative wins and losses, and other useful summary statistics, at the beginning of the report.

c) Service Record and Officer Career disagree on number of Outperformed games. For example, at the moment when I wrote this paragraph, my Officer Career page said that I outperformed in 32 of my 44 games, but counting up my Service Record, I outperformed in 34 of 44 games. (These totals include 1 game against Johnny, where I outperformed.)

When a unit is behind sandbags, as a flag is got on a dice roll, a box asking if the unit ignores the first flag. It happens the box hides the dice result. It's not possible to move this box by a click-and-lift to see the dice.

Oops, I just realize I'm not supposed to write here. I apologize.
