Yep, you guessed it. Lot's of Elite Axis armour there to do the job.
However, how I am not a Hauptman yet, I don't know?
|
I'm actually getting a little frustrated by the promotion system. How am I supposed to pursue a goal (Captain in this case) if I have no idea what the requirements are?
They only thing I can think is that I haven't won in enough different scenarios. I've played them all as both sides, but maybe not enough wins...
Also, I'm curious what battles people have won the objectives specialist badge playing? I've captured the town in Savern Gap, but do you need to do it in a scenario with multiple objectives?
Which battles have been successful for the Commando Specialist? Seems like there are only a few that are possible or likely. St. Vith is one, are there any others?
Are we missing any achievements from the list? Someone mentioned 15 above, but we only have 14 listed so far.

Help for achievement hunters. Although I don't have either yet, here's my analysis/list.
Commando Specialist -- most likely can be earned at St. Vith by the Axis. Possible for the Axis at Montelimar and Mont Mouchet but would be challenging. Possible but highly unlikely for the Axis at operation Cobra and Arnhem Bridge, for the Allies at Toulon, Omaha Beach, and Sword Beach.
Objective Specialist
Pegasus Bridge -- 2 objectives for the Allies
Sword Beach -- 3 for the Allies
Omaha Beach -- 5 for the Allies (all medals would need to be earned on objectives)
Pointe du Hoc -- 2 hexes for the Allies
Luttich - 1 for the Axis
Cobra - 2 for the Allies
Toulon - 3 hexes in Toulon for sudden death (Allies)
Paris - 3 for the Allies
Montelimar - 1 for the Allies, 2 for the Axis
Savern Gap - 2 hexes in Savern for sudden death (Axis)
Good luck!

Won at Omaha Beach tonight. And was promoted after the next battle.
You must need to win at Arnhem or Omaha as the underdog to be promoted.
On to Major...
And three more achievements to go...

Those of us who joined the open beta early got the Historian achievement by playing Saverne Gap scenario on Nov 19-23. The next scenario that might qualify you for this achievement would be Saint Vith from Dec 20 to 22.

Nice award strip, Vortexxx!
I just got Arnhem tonight, so I have the 14 known achievements as well. I've been playing it alot lately to try to get the medal. I managed to lose 5-4 as the Axis three times in the past four days before pulling it off tonight.
I wonder if there are other achievements out there we don't know about yet.
BTW, I earned the objective award at Pegasus Bridge for those who are trying for that one.
Guess I'll just keep playing and see if I can get to Major -- I haven't seen any online yet though...
I still haven't won 4 scenarios -- Mont Mouchet as the Allies, Toulon, Liberation of Paris, and Arracourt as the Axis. I'd also like to play Paris with 5 cards as the allies -- the way it's supposed to be.

I've won Arracourt from both sides. There's no special achievement for that, other than picking the bits of shrapnel out of your screen.

Yes, but did you eliminate 5 units with the Elite Infantry Units?
The other one I'm thinking might work if this is an Achievement is Arnhem Bridge...

Brice from DoW is a French Commandant which is apparently equivalent to the US, German, and British Major. I'm pretty sure he knows what it takes to reach Major but I also suspect he wouldn't say. Keep trying, I guess.

I've just got my 'Commando Specialist - Armor' at St. Vith, completing my 14 medals/awards.
Can one get 'Commando Specialist - Infantry' for killing 5 units with special forces infantry?

I suspect there is an Achievement like that, otherwise they would not have needed to specify the '-Armor' part. I haven't had time to test my theory though...has anyone else tried this?
It seems like Arnhem Bridge might be a good scenario to try it on!

Commando Specialist, Infantry - red sword on a gray background, for eliminating five units with special forces infantry.
Won today at Arnhem Bridge.
Now I've got 15 medals, and I've won every battle at least once.
What's my next challenge?

Nice! I'll have to try getting that one when I have time. Are there any Achievements for eliminating 5 or 6 units with normal tanks?
Maybe Armor Specialist or Infantry Specialist for eliminating 6 units with normal units? That might be something to test for...

I suspect that there is also an Achievement for one of the French Resistance battles, but I don't know what it could be.
I tested a theory I had by Eliminating both Tank Units to win (though I did get an Infantry unit as well, ending the battle with 5 medals instead of the normal 4) but I didn't get any achievement for that. I'm sure there's something about French Resistance...

I just got that Achievement too! It's a great one and it's my new favorite badge. Now I need to figure out what French Resistance achievement there might be...I can't imagine the French gentlemen on the Memoir '44 Online crew could have passed up the chance to create a cool "French Resistance" Achievement, so I'm pretty sure there's one out there!

i'd say this one is impossible until Russian or Japanese expansion were released, probably to become a Major, you need to defeat several Russian and Japanese enemies perhaps
ps. Brice's badge doesn't count, he's the lead-developer, so putting a badge is only with a blink of an eye

I'm not so sure we have to wait for two other expansions before we can be promoted to Major. Don't forget that each promotion gets progressively harder to achieve, so we'll have to really work for it!
I don't know if Brice would just promote himself, even if he had the option to, but maybe he's showing us that the rank of Major is available and ready to be earned! Now we just need to figure out what the requirements are.
Keep playing! Keep searching! I sure will.

Thanks to Sam and Ras for reminding us to have fun.
It was a lot of fun trying for the Commando-Infantry badge, especially since using the Artillery effectively is important for the Allies at Arnhem. So the key was to make sure that my Artillery would weaken the units, but not eliminate them.
I knew I had to be aggressive since I wanted to get kills with the infantry. On my first turn, I played move out and moved two units to the left flank to attack the two Axis infantry there. I also moved out on the right flank for a hit and run attack.
On the left, I successfully eliminated the infantry after two or three turns. On the right, I did some damage, but was quickly forced back into the town.
After that initial burst, it was mostly back and forth, but I did manage to eliminate one infantry on the right.
The Axis then became anxious and starting moving Armor across the bridge. At this point, I had moved my infantry from the right back across and into the towns. I managed to kill an armor unit while staying in the towns -- the strategy to weaken them with Artillery as they came across and then finish with infantry was working well.
When I only needed one more medal, I became agressive and moved out of the towns with my infantry to close on a weakened Armor unit for the win and the badge!
On to Major and to see what else we can find!
