M44 Online Beta 13 Thu, 09 December 2010 17:29
Dear Memoir '44 Online Officer:

We are happy to report that we released the Beta 13 version of the software.

This new version provides an important update of our pay-to-play model: No more Pay for Special Units, identical cost of a scenario for both sides, and identical cost regardless of whether you play it SOLO or against another player.

In addition, the cost is simple and clearly marked before you join the game, and your Gold Ingot balance is clearly visible at all times.

Last but not least, we also gave everyone a free "Bonus Gold"!

You will find more details about all this in the forum at:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?goto=202786

There are also new pages on the game Web site: Officer Roster, Achievements list, etc. Make sure you check them out on http://www.memoir44-online.com : click on the big "Achievements" and "Officer Ranks" buttons.

How to upgrade?

It is very simple, just launch the game. After you log in, it will detect the new version and offer to download it. Make sure you do so. Then follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

If you have problems, you can always go to http://www.memoir44-online.com and download the software again. Nothing will be lost, since all your profile is stored in your DoW Online account.

Improvements and bug fixes:

- Reworked Pay-to-play model
- [Resume] Resuming a game is severely broken
- [Resume] Medals count is wrong after a resume
- [Hot swap] Robot cannot play after hot swap
- [Freeze] Connection time-out freeze the application
- Ghost games/player because of double create/join requests
- Remove the client-in-lobby beep
- Password is sent in clear text over the network
- [Core] Attack can end in an invalid state
- [Login] Press Esc and mess-up
- Chat text selection makes the screen flicker
- [HQ] Show the War Treasure balance in the personal area
- [HQ] Show the scenario cost in the detail panel
- Reduce time-out
- Other various fixes

And as always:

A big THANK YOU to everyone who play and/or send us bug reports.
We also look forward to your comments on the Memoir '44 Online forum about this important release.

Have fun!

The Memoir '44 High Command at Days of Wonder Headquarters

While not the first on-line game I have played, M44 is the first Beta I have participated in. I am having a great deal of fun experiencing the game's evolution, and am impressed with the interaction between the testers and developers. I know it must seem a fairly basic concept for those who have participated in open beta before, but to see feedback on this board implemented in the form of in game improvements is somehow very satisfying. Thank you to all involved. Great game.

We believe the feature is functional, although internal testing show that some corner case are not fully properly handled (like resuming after you played a Their Finest Hour). I think about 90% of the case will be handled fine, which is much more than the 0% we had previously Smile

As with every update...the list of "Improvements and Bug Fixes" helps us know what has been worked on. That doesn't mean that it's perfect or totally "Fully Functional" but it does mean that the crew has tried to fix a problem they know about.

If you discover that the Resume feature still has some problem or problems, just submit a bug report like you always do and they'll keep working on it for the next update! Smile

Thanks for the explanation Brice, yes that's indeed a wonderful progress

btw, how long have we been permitted to be "disconnected" before the game considered it forfeited ?

We get reimbursed for the cost of a scenario that crashes after 15 minutes. I would bet you have to rejoin within those 15 minutes or you lose the scenario, but that's just a guess. Smile

Re:M44 Online Beta 13 Fri, 10 December 2010 08:37
Brice,
i just experienced two broken connections just now,
and came out with two suggestions :

1. in the first scenario, i need to be AFK for sometime (10-15 minutes) and my opponent agree to wait, but what happened is the system assume that I was disconnected and booted me out of the game. Now, we need a feature of "Pause" to avoid this situation because ..

2. in the second scenario, i was really disconnected, but in less than 5 minutes, when I was able to rejoin the game, a bot already took my place and continue my game automatically. Another suggestion is to at least prevent any bot to take over in 5 minutes timeframe because if our computer's frozen or hang, we need that amount of time to reconnect again and we don't want our strategy was ruined by any bot.

Thanks

Dear DOW,
Having been playing this game since the original Beta, all I can say is wow!

You guys have been brave to launch this idea in the first place and the improvements all along the way have been great. Thanks for letting ALL of us participate in the testing and now actually in some of the decisions about how the game is formatted and even priced. This really is a rare and fun experience.
