Kicking it old school... Sat, 25 December 2010 17:42
I got one of my best Battle Buddys sludgeking the new Battlecry for Christmas.

Simple and elegant... and of course the dice hate me.

My Battlecry sets are in storage, so I have only gotten him infected with M44 and Battlelore, To which he has purchased everything... Ancients and Nappy are still waiting, but on the list.

The New Battlecry stuff is great, and still simple. The box says 12 and up, but I know some 6 and 7 year olds that can play much more complex games and beat me at them. The only complaints I have are two... The hills are the same color as the map and don't look like hills, but being a tile on the map board you know they are there. eh... minor. The second is the flags on the minis, we got them lined up when we folded them and placed them all perfectly on the flag staffs. And then they started to come off... We were always resetting the flags!!! gonna have to pull them off and glue them back on. The sticky on the back of the stickers does not stick to the plastic. Maybe wipe the flag staff with acetone? Both really minor problems.

Many many years ago A guy named Brady set up a custom map board with painted Minis at a local Con, It was gorgeous... Richard Borg was there!!!! and I didn't get to meet him Crying or Very Sad Me and another Battle buddy, Henryfox played Gettysburg and we were hooked.

I bought a copy in the dealers room, and we played it every chance we got. A few months later I picked up a copy of Memoir 44 for his Birthday... and We played nothing else But Memoir 44 for over two years. No squad leader, No panzerblitz, no Axis and Allies, nothing... Now I infect everyone I can with the C&C system. And any fan of ACW would love the New Battlecry. And it makes a great gateway for M44.

My P500 copy of C&C Naps finally arrived on Christmas Eve! sadly along with a massive bit of overcharging from Customs. Combine that with the C&C Ancients expansion from Santa, and that was a lot of stickering to do. Makes me appreciate the M44 miniatures a whole lot more!

Now just need enough family to disappear to give me a chance to play the things!

I also got it a while back (and posted my comments in the "off-topic" forum - that was obviously a mistake... http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?th=21271&start=0 )

I also had trouble with the flags, which annoys me to no end, because I have my game staying at work where a lot of kids use it... So needless to say I'm having to make my own flags and put on. I'm not too impressed with Wizards vis-a-vis their quality control (and I'm still fuming that they cancelled Heroscape). Also I think the blue plastic used for the union troops is too bright blue - it should have been darker, IMO.

But aside from that the game is great, with some very interesting additions and options (I especially like "Battle Back" and the fact that there is more than one of those - often in Mem44 you sit an wait for Ambush to be played so that you know it's nolonger in the deck).

Hello,

I'm a french M44 player and allways had been attracted by the Battlecry thema (old gun's and cavalry more "funny" than playing the nazis)! This new edition seem's to tell me: "Come on GG, try me now!" But I suppose in Europe we will have to way before getting it?

Even if I created 12 front scenarios in M44 (you can find online), I do not like when a game, genius by its original simplicity, becomes more and more complicated because of his extentions! That's why I left Battlelore and now M44 is more and more suspect to my players. To create more scenarios is great ... but to create more & more kinds of units & lands makes me find less & less friends to play the game!

PLEASE STAY SIMPLE! MULTIPLY THE SCENARIOS, NOT THE RULES!

That's why the new edition of Battlecry attract me: 4 kind of units, 4 kind of lands (or something), 30 scenarios ... and a war far away enought in time & space (for us europeans) no to let the bitter feeling we got here when playing a waffen SS unit!

Still my friends keep on coming home playing my M44 scenarios ... Battlecry must first endure our tests!

Cool
