Russian insignia is incorrect Wed, 12 January 2011 21:25
Please

is there a way to correct inconsistencies??

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/6428/russianranks.png

1. Lejtenant has two stars.
2. Starshij Lejtenant has three stars.
3. Kapitan has four stars.

Refer to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_ranks_of_the_Soviet_Un ion)
Here is the screenshot:

4. Maire - this is completely incorrect. It is pronounced as 'Major'.
5. The same issue here.

Please correct these items. This is not serious

The Ranks and pictures you are referring to are for the Soviet Union in the 1980s. Rolling Eyes

Woa! So you think they are different??
They are the same! I grew up in SU.

And besides, shoulder straps (which are used as Russian insignia in M44 Online) where applied in 1943 and never changed since then. They were used in SU and are still used in former SU countries, like Ukraine for example.

I insist that insignia is incorrect, this must be fixed.

Eric

The photo bottom right at this website http://www.tankmuseum.ru/uniform2.html (Russian tank museum in Kubinka) showing an original 1943 Soviet Captains uniform would seem to suggest that mescalito is right Rolling Eyes

Tha captains uniform shown has different shoulder boards to the ones above, but the configuration of the stars is the same. Four stars for a Captain.

So did you actually mean, "This is serious"? Razz Because later you go on to say,

I have no reason to doubt that you're wrong about this issue, and if DoW has made a mistake I agree that it should be fixed for historical accuracy. The reason I ask about these two conflicting quotes is because while this may be serious for people from the area, it might have to wait a little while until the artist or programmers have finished with more pressing matters. It's not going to be an overnight fix (or maybe even in the next beta release) simply because there are still so many other things to work on.

Actually майор is pronounced my-oar.
Yes the current rendering is a bit odd, but even Academics who spend their entire lives doing it can't agree on the best way to transliterate Russian.
I'd rather have a mis-spelled rank (well, others have a mis-spelled rank, I'm not going to be making Major any time soon) and some more scenarios this year, than everything nicely proof-read and no new content.

This is not serious to mess ranks, that is what I mean. And yes, this is important to fix historic inconsistencies.

Jim, I speak Russian,
and believe me, Major is a way more suitable transliteration than Maire.

It could also be:

Major
Mayor
Maior

But never Maire

Guys,

I know you are busy with getting online game a better thing and obviously there are more important things to do/fix. I am sure everyone involved in M44 world appreciates your efforts (including myself).

There was no constructive reply to my post and please just let me know if you are going to fix the issue with incorrect insignina (meaning that you accept the problem) and at least a rought estimate on when this fix could happen. Or you still think that insignia is correct than I think I will be collecting evidences to what I believe is right.

Thank you in advance!

We took the point and will address it. As I am writing, the text has been fixed. The pictures will be revamped as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Thank you,
I noticed however that there is incorrect spelling 'Maire' inside of the game itself. Please take this into account.

Thanks!
