Online AAR - for what? Fri, 24 December 2010 14:13
Why do we fill out the AARs after an online game?
There is nowhere we can read it afterward.
And the other players AARs as well!!!

Would be cool if we could see other games between two players as well - at least to learn from their tactic/strategy.

The AAR database is there, we just can't see it yet. That will be coming up, but maybe not soon. But it is there and all of them are being collected.

Hmmm, but of all the players I have met only one took time to write an AAR while I have done it after each game.

AARs would be helpful if we learn the awards/medals received for BOTH sides first so we can then write up a AAR that is meaningful. In my opinion it would not be too hard for AARs to be written up automatically with what happened with Commander's notes to be added by us.

Being able to tag and rate games you enjoyed, and allow other players to watch them (in time lapse with a pause button) would be interesting. We could have a thread with links to epic battles. I know I have had a couple I would love to be able to go back and watch. Flag them as anonymous if you don't want others to see the names of the parties involved, or private if you don't want to share your strategies at all.

I really like the option of AARs, but I don't think it is necessary for each and every game. And I certainly think the designers should concentrate on other applications before that. 99% of casual players won't bother with it anyway.

Now if there ever comes a campaign feature the AARs would suddenly become much more interesting to read, IMO - as part of a larger string of events.

Personally, I normally don't to interrupt my playing to write AARs. When I play against certain opponents, I write my AARs afterward, on the regular Memoir website, using my scoresheet and a final screenshot.

When you want to play a rematch, or when there may be other interesting opponents online, writing a thorough AAR doesn't seem as fun as playing another game.

Am I the only person who thinks it would be great to be able to submit AARs after the fact? (How important is it to approve the opponent's AAR? We never had to do that before.)

All this will come in time on the Web site, don't worry. Smile
