With only no offical campaigns, one official Overlord scenario and one official Breakthrough scenario, the Pacific theatre is overdue some DoW attention.

Apart from the island hopping, the Japanese "Blitzkrieg" through Malaysia and the Burma campaign, there is the slog-fest with China.

Plenty of material to work with me thinks.

I must agree with you on this. I would like an expansion similar to the Winter Wars expansion in scope and number of scenarios but maybe with a campaign included.

I hope to see some Pacific maps in the Battlemap series 2, when (if) they start them. Along with a Jungle combat deck.

Funny this should come up...I just started working on a series of battles (maybe a campaign, if I'm feeling ambitious) for the battle on Okinawa. I've been reading Bill Sloan's recent (2007) book, *The Ultimate Battle,* and been inspired.

Because the Pacific was such a different kind of fighting, especially late in the war, I'm experimenting with different victory conditions. Late war Japanese strategy, especially at Iwo and Okinawa, recognized that they didn't have any hope of defeating American forces. Instead, they tried to drag it out and inflict so many casualties that Americans would lose the stomach to invade mainland Japan and would listen to terms. So I'm playing around with the idea of making elimination of all Japanese units the American objective, with victory being measured by how few units the Americans lose in the process. In other words, maybe the Americans would start a battle with 12 medals, and lose one every time an American unit was destroyed. I don't know - something like that.

The Jungle Deck is a neat idea, but wouldn't really cover the whole Pacific. It'd be great for places like Guadalcanal and the Philippines, but not represent the volcanic, jungle-less Iwo and the subtropical Okinawa. The Pacific theater saw as much fighting on coral, mud, and ash as it did in jungles. Smile

I would say, before any further expansion with an Pacific theme (as much as I would like to see one), the Pacific Army Pack should be reprinted first.

An overlord map with a jungle combat deck would be great. One side could be a Guadalcanal scenario and the other a beach landing scenario. It would also be great to get another Pacific breakthrough scenario.

Is the Pacific Theater expansion out of stock where you are? I just looked at the DoW store and it's in stock there...and I hadn't heard anything about it being hard to find. Razz

Really? I didn't realize that there is a special German webshop, especially as there is no German language version of M44. So I thought, same shop, different languages.

The following expansions are marked as "Out of stock English / French" in the German language webshop:
- Air Pack
- Campaign Bag
- Hedgerow Hell
- Tigers in the Snow
- Pacific Theater

Rasmussen was looking at the US Store, while you were looking on the European. I agree that reprinted expansions should be available overseas too... Smile

Rather than wait I started my own work on it:
Battle for Shanghai scenarios

I'm planning on making more of the Sino-Japanese war. It was a huge conflict, somewhat forgotten by many in the west. And, IMO, the Nationalist Chinese forces haven't really been given the attention they deserve because they eventually lost the civil war to the communists.

I totally agree that there should be more DoW attention to the Pacific theater. I have done three campaigns and countless scenarios involving this theater. I am going to purchase another PT expansion and start designing OL scenarios soon. I have always said that there should be an island map with more ships and landing craft/or amtracks to bombard the beaches and take your troops in. I have also said that the cave rules should be amended to give caves some protection against artillery or ships as in the example of Iwo Jima. That place was bombarded for hours without many (or any?) Japanese causalities.

The two Philippine campaigns I think would be interesting.
During the Japanese invasion The American/Philippine forces put up a stubborn fight , even throwing the Japanese off the beach at Bataan, while in the American retaking of the Philippines you have street fighting in the Battle of Manila, the airborne assault on Corrigidor and the hard fighting in the Mountains of Luzon.

I loved your Iwo campaign -- the first battle, "The 'Real Thing'" gets it just about perfect, I think. As I keep plugging away on my Okinawa campaign, I use this one as a model (and inspiration).

Gosh! Thank you kindly for your kind words! I always play test my scenarios before putting them up. I used the map from "The Flags of Our Fathers" book. Other Iwo scenarios I saw had the mountain in the wrong place. I also read about all the mortars and artillery they had. I based it on that book. So, Thanks again!
