In this case, Jesse, I/we/everybody had multiple disconnects. The first several times, I was able to resume. (In one of them, unfortunately, the bot had played a card for me -- and it wasn't at all the card I intended to play.)

The last time, by the time I was able to get back on, there was no option to resume.

i really think that bot that automatically continues the game after one's booted out/disconnected should be removed. This is annoying especially when you can rejoin the game after only 2-3 minutes and the bot has spent your turn Smile

or another option is to make the bot takeover IF ONLY a game hasn't been resumed in around 10 - 15 minutes

Some kind if dice roller available just before the game starts.

This could be very helpful in campaigns that require rolls
ahead of time. Might even make choosing sides random.

Difficult one this. We don't want to penalise the remaining player...

For instance, I've noticed you can still gain achievements if the bot takes over the game from a disappearing human which I think is a good thing.

Or allow the bot to takeover BUT don't allow it to do moves for a set period of time. Thus allowing a person who got knocked off the ability to get back online.

I would think a timeout of 5-10 minutes should do the trick.

Vassieux should have a counter that tells you how many cards are left in the command card deck. Maybe next to the deck or on top of it. Since the Axis player wins, if the deck runs out, this is vital information and creates a nice sense of urgency in live games. I would like to see it online also.

I'd like to be able to sort my service record by the '# of players' column so that Johnny games go to the bottom. Currently that's the only column you can't sort.

Re:Feature Request Log - Beta-testers Only Please! Sat, 08 January 2011 02:21
I realize that most of this has been said before, but I'd like to tie some elements together.

I don't know whether this is true of TTR or the any other DOW online games, but Memoir has a social aspect, and it's common for players to chat, at least a bit. And it's common for players to become virtual friends. M-Online accommodates this in a limited way by having a dialog box and by allowing players to create buddy lists.

The mechanics of playing the game seem to be getting pretty clean, but the human interaction side still needs some work.

1. Please make it possible for players to communicate one-on-one with each other, via private message windows. This way, people conducting a one-on-one conversation don't clog up everybody's dialog area.

2. Please make it possible to private-message players who are involved in a game. Or at least to ping players in-game, and ask them if a side conversation is okay. Why is this valuable? Because if you see that a friend is engaged in a game, you can find out whether to wait for him or play with a different opponent.

3. Please make it possible for players in-game to see who is out in the Waiting Room.

4. Make it possible for people to watch someone else's game (perhaps with permission). This will become particularly desirable when there are tournaments.

One smallish thing I would like to see added: right now when my turn is over and the other player's turn begins a message gets written to the message area stating that "it is Johnny's turn". Yet when Johnny is done, the message does not then say "It is your turn". So unless there is chatting or other interference, you end up with a message box full of "it is Johnny's turn" and it may not always be clear that it's really my turn (yes, yes, there is a big ka-chunk message across the battlefield screen when his turn was over, but sometimes you're pulled away from the screen).

Also on start of the game, it would be good to state that it is your turn or Johnny's turn in that area just to remind you of how the scenario starts. Right now if I don't remember, I try to drag a card halfway up the screen to check.

It's of course important that one stays focussed on the game. Cool
But if I loose track, I check this problem (who's turn is it now ?) by moving the mouse-cursor to one of the cards. If the cursor changes in a little finger, it's my turn.

You can always see when it's your turn because the bottom right corner of your screen (where it says "Move", "Battle", etc) will have an image...if it's blank then it's not your turn! Cool

I'd like to be able to arrange my cards the way I want. I'd like to be able to put the left flank cards on the left and so forth. It makes it easier for me to track.

Thanks!

Or even automatically arrange cards like this.
Show the players new card in the middle of the screen - large - like when it is played then place it in the hand.

I'd like to have my cards arranged so that the single section cards are in order, left, middle, right, then the multisection cards and the special command cards, barrage, air strike, BEL, DFHq etc could be on the extreme left or right (don't mind which).

A suggestion for a new award:

An "Airpower Award" for killing 3 or more units with one airstrike.

I've just done this with an Allied airstrike in the Twin Villages scenario. As the Axis were battling to breakout they had 4 wounded units close together. The airstrike killed 3 from 4 which was a pretty good achievement for a single card and lead to the Allied victory.

Of course harder to do with an Axis airstrike - buy many of the awards aren't symmetrical.

An option where I can click and drag the window bigger or smaller would be nice. The current system based on screen resolution is clunky and problematic - I have had problems when switching between full-screen and lower resolutions.

The Play Solo and Play options seems to take you to the same place - is there any difference?

A replay and/or swap sides and play again option would would definitely get my vote. The movable window/card selection for retreating/recon is also a must have. As is the dice rolled on the edge of the screen not being visible.

If you don't select the full screen mode then the game (on a windows laptop) plays in a standard window that can be maximised or resized as you wish. That's how I play so I can switch from the game to check mail etc.

Yes I can do it that way too, however when I reduce the size some of the column title in the player window section are partially obscured. This in itself is not a major concern of mine, however when playing a game, I would prefer a slightly larger screen area without having to select full-screen mode.

Someone else made a similar suggestion on another thread, but I don't want the idea to be lost...so I'm going to repeat the idea here.

It would be cool to have a graphic map of the world on the 'home' screen. Players would then be able to select a country or region and click on it to zoom in...then once they are zoomed in, they could see all of the battles that took place in that area. With a bit more work, the battles could be located in the actual places they took place. Then players could choose their battles based on the location of interest.

I think this would be a very interactive, fun way to select your battles instead of a static list of names and dates.

Once the Campaign system is implemented in the Online game this would become even more cool because players could see the back-and-forth locations of the battles as they play through a campaign!

This would be a lot of work and may not be feasible, but I think it would be very interesting. Cool

I don't know if it's a bug or not, but I guess it's a small fix
I spotted that if I switch from full screen to windowed mode, usually after a battle, when the result screen popped up, I can't see the skill calculation, looks like it's only shown in full screen mode. Does anybody recognize this ? because i've tried it on a three different monitors

and another request, probably a small tweak to the medal amount of Counter Attack of Mortain. It's a great map, I love that, but somehow 4 is way too short. Sometimes Axis can pull an easy win because they can kill a unit and grab the left medal and it's already a victory. I believe it's changed in the Air Pack from 4 to 6 medals, so probably it's better that way Smile

Totally minor thing but I'd like to be able to designate someone as "my buddy" from in the lobby and/or the game. A personal -- do not play list would be useful, too.

Actually, you can: click on the person, then in the bottom panel, click on the buddy icon.

Re:Feature Request Log - Beta-testers Only Please! Fri, 11 February 2011 03:40
To help facilitate good communication and to avoid frustration, I think there should be a way to display in the loby what languages each player speaks. Currently we can see what someone's first language is, but there's no way to tell if they are French and speak nearly perfect English...Here's my idea:

In the "Options" menue there could be simple little check boxes where players can select (or check) which languages they speak and feel comfortable typing back-and-forth in. For many players (like myself) English would be the only language I would check. Others might check the French, English, Italian boxes...

Then in the lobby when someone clicks on our names, there would be little flag icons (like the American, French and German flags in the top left corner of every DoW page) and people could quickly see what languages a player knows well.

This way if I see a player with only the French flag, I will know that we can't communicate effectively and I can choose to play with him/her anyway (knowing that it will be a silent game) or I can pick a different opponent. Cool

Along with the above suggestion, I would love to see a lot more information about the players who invite me to join their game. If I'm the one inviting, then I can look at all sorts of stuff but when I'm accepting a game I don't know anything except for their name!

I've found that I would like to add buddies to my list from the forum pages and from the screen when I click on their names in the forums...but instead I have to go into "My Account" and search for their names or see them in the lobby of the Online game.

Maybe the 'Add Buddy' or 'Ignore' buttons could be added to more places to make the process easy.

It would be a convenience if players could hover over the Information button to see all the scenario Notes.

Having to click to the Info screen and then travel halfway across the screen to go back to the game is a bother.

When moving, the hexes are shaded darker to show how far the unit can move and still attack and slightly lighter on the edges to show where the unit can move, but then cannot attack.

However, if there are no opposing units within range, it's somewhat confusing to see the darker inner hexes because even if it is theoretically possible to attack it is not actually possible on this movement.

It might be nice in those cases to show the entire movement shading as all lighter green. Then it is immediately obvious, "I can move this unit anywhere I want in this shaded area because I don't have any chance to attack with it anyhow."

For experienced players this may seem like heresy. But for those like me and my spouse who have only ever played M44 via this online version, it would be nice for clarity.

You do know that you can hold shift and click on a unit to see all it's battle options? Red for three dice, orange for two dice, yellow for one dice. This works with both your units and your enemies units.

Re:Feature Request Log - Beta-testers Only Please! Mon, 14 February 2011 04:07
This is a low-priority suggestion, but something I would still like to see at some point!

I'm meeting some great new players in Memoir '44 Online and I'm adding them to my Buddy list so that I remember that I enjoy playing with them. During a game we chat a little bit and I maybe find out what they do for a living or which Memoir '44 expansion they want to buy next.

1) My first suggestion is for there to be some place where we can write down a few notes about the people in our Ignore list and our Buddy list. I would like to be able to see the notes I wrote (and modify them) in the lobby and during a game if that's possible. Then I can remember a little bit about the person I'm playing and continue to develop that friendship! It would be a social tool that would help cultivate closer relationships between players, I think!

2) My second suggestion is that you add the Buddy and Ignore button into the game itself so during a battle you can make your opponent a friend or choose to ignore them even before the game is over.

If you combined both of these elements, you could choose to Ignore a player while you're playing them and write a note to yourself reminding you that they took really long for each turn, or they were swearing a lot...or you could add them to your Buddy list and write down that they are from Colombo, Sri Lanka and they manage an online consulting agency.

I think it would help create more community, which is always a good thing!

1. The radio squawk for a chat alert is annoying, sounds like my soundboard is going bad.
2. Ignore chat during game (haven't run into an unpleasant gamer so far, but it's always a matter of time)
3. Tooltip on button for making someone buddy on lobby screen. The icon wasn't intuitive to me and there was no feedback before clicking, or during or after for that reason, to alert me as to what I was doing.
4. Shift click shows firing zone/possibilities. I'd like shift right click to show movement zones/possibilities.

Just noticed - and I am not sure when it was fixed - that if/when you right click a counter attack card (after it has been played) you now the original card.

Works even if the counter attack has been counter attacked.
Well done DoW crew. Keep up the good work!

Three things that I would like to see:

1) When I have someone selected in the Lobby and a Map selected, I would like to have the "Play" button removed and the "Invite" button placed there. The logic being that the "Invite" button already appears when you do this, but the "Play" button is significantly bigger and shinier.

2) Last night I had 3 disconnects. When I disconnected the game returned me to the main screen. There does not seem to be any way to rejoin the game I was just disconnected from unless I exit the client entirely. It would be nice if either the game exited entirely when disconnecting or was able to recover from a short disconnect from inside the client.

Which leads me to....

3) Any chance that after login in, but during games, the client and server connections switch from TCP to UDP? I think you are going to see better connections and fewer session drops if you go with a connectionless protocol there. Also, as more people play the game you are going to get a big spike in TCP SYN connections...if my TCP sequence numbers are any indication it looks like you have about a 60-second timeout on your TCP connections, I hope you have a SYN-Cookie based load balancer in front of you or this is an (intentional or unintentional) TCP SYN DOS attack waiting to happen.

TCP for a secure login is great, but you should switch to the server doing "fire and forget" packets for the rest.

Just my two cents...

Hi, thanks for this thread.

I think it's a good idea to have more than one animation speed. I mean, it takes quite a long time to wait for the dice to roll, the for the explosion, and then the removal of the unit, etc. I think if I could speed up the animation, perhaps options like NORMAL, FAST, SUPER FAST, it would be even nicer. Btw, it's already really nice! Good job, and keep it up.

Action Sequence Needs an "Are You Sure?" Button.
I'd like a way to "sweeten" the actions sequence interface.
With each Phase having it's own "Done" button, it's a little too easy to screw up one's turn by pressing the "Done" button, only to find you haven't moved a particular unit into position as planned and now you can't go back to fix the mistake before proceeding to the battle Phase.
This may be fine in cutthroat games, but while I am happy to accept that "a card laid is a card played", I want to be sure I can enjoy the game, especially when playing solo.
It is not enjoyable to be consistently out-rolled (in 10+ games, the computer opponent has enjoyed a 16% dice roll effectiveness over me so far in every game... perhaps this is a play balance feature?) and then miss an opportunity because I was distracted by the phone, the dog, my sneezing, etc.
So, a message stating "You have activated Units that have not Moved; Are you sure you are Done?" would be a nice feature for those of us whose attention spans can vary.
Basically, I don't hink anything should be set in stone until the player(s) specifically decide to commence the "Battle" phase.
Even in chess, a piece can be moved back if it's still in one' hand.
Anyway, that's just my request. Otherwise, I'm very impressed with the online game.
Although that dice rolling percentage is creeping me out...

It's nice the game proceeds to the next Phase automatically, but if it goes slowly, the "Move/Done" button can stay on too long, one can click it.. and the click applies to the "Combat/Done" button, and you've lost one or more attacks.
This is related to my earlier post, in that it gives another example of why I would like an option to verify our desire to continue to next phase.
But that's just me, I'm old.

Please provide an option to TURN OFF auto-progression of a phase.
Twice now I have used "Behind Enemy Lines" and LOST the attack because the game auto-progressed from the first "Move" phase into the "Battle" phase.
However, it did it so slowly, I assumed I could/had to choose to end the "Move" phase, but my clicking in fact cancelled the "Battle" phase, the box for which never appeared.

I'm seeing a lot of people exhibiting some pretty poor sportsmanship, ranging form shabby to downright manipulative and rude, so, I would like to see this:

1. Every game played will consist of two rounds, each player playing each side.

2. A losing player who declines a re-match is not penalized.
A winning player who declines a rematch gets no credit for the win.

3. Winning the second round counts as a win, normally (of course).

4. A player who leaves a game in process during either round forfeits the entire match. If they won the first round, that win is reversed and counts as a win for their opponent. In addition, the opponent is credited with an additional win for the second (forfeited) round.

Nobody likes a bad loser; a bad winner is even worse.

You can't legislate ethics, but competition and sportsmanship rules of any contest mean that you can make people responsible for failing to exhibit them.

If someone can't be bothered to Write a Review, and leaves the game, then the remaining player should be allowed to post a review without requiring approval from the rage-quitter.
Sorry, I just cannot abide or excuse rudeness.

I'm seeing a lot of people exhibiting some pretty poor sportsmanship, ranging form shabby to downright manipulative and rude, so, I would like to see this:

4. A player who leaves a game in process during either round forfeits the entire match.

Sometimes one doesn't choose to leave a match.
I live in the countryside and in the evenings my internet connection is slow and from time to time I lose my connection with the M44 online server (which may also be runnning slowly).
It wouldn't be fair to me, an honourable player, to penalise me for circumstances outside of my control.

There is a solution for you regarding rude players, or players who wouldn't play a rematch - add them to your :ignored players" list and you won't have to play them again.
