Memoir '44 Online Beta 19 Thu, 24 February 2011 14:01
Dear Memoir '44 Online Officers:

We are happy to report that we released the Beta 19 version of the software.

Over 40 fixes!

Our developers went "Gung-Ho" during the past two weeks, and fixed a huge number of bugs. You will find a list of the most important ones at the end of this message.

Manual Use of the Ambush Card

You can now use the Ambush card manually if you do not wish to rely on the (recommended) AI-assisted mode.

Here is how it works: before playing, go to your Settings screen and in the Game Options section, choose "Manual Ambush". This setting is global and, once made, will apply to all your games going forward, for as long as this setting is kept.

Just as in the AI-assisted mode, you choose to "arm" your Ambush card ahead of time by clicking on it. From this moment on, every time an enemy unit performs a Close Combat attack, a dialog will appear asking you if you would like to play your Ambush card or not: very simple.

Make sure you don't wait too long before answering Yes or No to this confirmation dialog: a long delay might tip-off your opponent to your Ambush card!

In Expert Mode, the Ambush card is always played Manually, regardless of your personal settings.

Discover Mines and Anti-Tank Weapons with two additional Mediterranean Theater scenarios

"1st Armoured to the rescue" and "Hellfire Pass" introduce new elements and rules to the Standard and Solo modes. Can you successfully cross the minefields under enemy fire and live to tell the tale?

New Achievements

Three new Honor and one new Specialist Achievements were released, to add a bit of spice and fun in your games. You will find details about the so-called "I Love Pineapples", "Star Wars", "Fly, you fools" and "Stiff Upper Lip" badges on the game web site. Go to http://www.memoir44-online.com and click on "Achievements".

Night Visibility in Expert Mode

The Expert Mode now features a fully functional user interface that manages the Night Visibility indicator entirely automatically. Watch the sun rise on the battlefield!

What's Coming Next?

First of all a BIG DISCLAIMER: This is development Software, and what is worse, Beta Software. So while we believe what follows to be the most accurate description of our development plans and status as of this date, some things might still go wrong: as a result there could still be a difference between what we plan to do and hope to accomplish at any point in time, and what we will actually be able to deliver over the next few months, in terms of timing and features...

Implementing new special rules continues to consume a large part of our efforts. Each new special rule brings its own share of unexpected cases and specific bugs. Sometimes, combinations can be maddening: for example, can you use an Exit Marker during an Armor Overrun in the context of North African Desert Rules? Well, it depends... Wink
For this reason, it is hard to predict how many new scenarios of the three Army Pack you will see in each coming release, and in which order. But they will come!

At the same time, we also work hard on finishing the last missing features in the Expert mode.

In the meantime, enjoy the current release and keep those reports coming!

How to upgrade?

It is very simple, just launch the game. After you log in, it will detect the new version and offer to download it. Make sure you do so. Then follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

If you have problems, you can always go to http://www.memoir44-online.com and download the software again. Nothing will be lost, since all your profile is stored in your DoW Online account.

Details of improvements and bug fixes:
(note: NADR = North African Desert Rules)

- Supports manual Ambush in rule mode
- Implement Anti-Tank weapons
- [Êrg] prevent Take ground and Armor overrun
- [Stiff upper lip vs. Behind enemy lines] Cannot do the second move of BEL
- [Stiff upper lip vs. Behind Enemy Lines] Axis could move again before SUL is applied
- [Stiff upper lip] proposed to the wrong side
- [Exit] Infantry taking ground on Exit is allowed to exit
- [NADR/Exit] RequestError when exiting on a NADR move
- [NADR] Medal granted during an Armor Overrun does not trigger the end of game
- [NADR/Exit] On take ground on an exit position with no move possible, exiting is not proposed
- Roads allows artillery to move 1 hex and battle
- Dig in in fallback mode skips move and battle
- [Sidi Rezegh Airfield] axis should be granted the airfied medal at the beginning
- [Expert Mode] Expert crash on retreat
- [Expert Mode] Counter Attack can't be played directly with Russian Commissar
- [Expert Mode] Night Visibility rules and indicator
- [Expert Mode] Ambush should be fully manual
- [Expert Mode] Crash in sendKills
- [Expert] crashes if you move a unit onto another
- [Expert Mode] resume is broken for expert games
- [i18n] service record officer rank is null in French
- Other various fixes

And as always:

A big THANK YOU to everyone who play and/or send us bug reports.

Make sure you stay tuned on the Memoir '44 Online forum:

And above all, have fun!

This all sounds great. Thank you! (And thank you, especially, for the manual option on Ambush!)

I applaud the exemplary way you pay attention to user feedback.

Too bad I have to get ready for work in 10 minutes, so I can't try it out until this evening. Smile

It appears minefields have some bugs.
When I played Axis at Hellfire, a minefield destroyed an Allied armor stand. This crashed the game for both players. When we reentered, the medal for the destroyed armor had been awarded to the Allies.
Also, minefields allowed some overrun combats, but not others. My apologies, in the heat of battle, I neglected to take notes of the circumstances, so I can't be very specific on this one. My recollection is that of three overruns involving mines, over two games, two combats were allowed and one was not. The other player and I were not able to come up with an interpretation of the rules which allowed some overrun combats in minefields but not others.
Thank you for your consideration.

Would you be able to send us a bug report with the log file? Otherwise we're helpless.

I had a minefield problem as well on Hellfire Pass.

Bug Report submitted a few minutes ago.

Moved an infantry onto a minefield showing 1, dice missed, exit to black screen with "unknown error" on it, I managed to re-enter game and finish it.

What I didn't realise when I submitted bug report was that the battle is weirdly reported in my serice records.

It says I won, but underperformed with 2 medals to me (I actually won with 6) and my opponent it shown twice with 3 and 4 medals in the same box?
The whole line in the service record is also shown twice, even though we onyl played once?

Screen shot of record (which I didn't add to bug report). Actual score was 6 to me, 4 to him.

Vulch:

We found the problem. Somehow, a duplicate entry was inserted in the database when you resumed the game. I cleaned it, so you should now see a correct game history.

Thanks for your bug report,

Yann

Where do I find bug reporting?

You can go to the Memoir '44 Online web site (http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/) and look at the bottom for the 'Report a Bug' button, or you can follow the link in my signature.

Just follow the directions and send in the report! Cool Welcome to the forum, by the way!! Smile

I Just downloaded beat 19 and whenever I try to log in it says "Login and username don't match." I tried to send a bug report but it wouldn't let me send it, because I would put the log file in the box and click send. Then, it would take me back to the bug report form with red letters next to the log file box saying "This field is mandatory". I ended up sending a costomer service report but I never received a confermation email even though it said the report had been sent. So, I decided to try the forum.

I have tried several things to get the program to work. I made sure my login and password were correct and still it wouldn't work. Next I tried changing my DoW password, still nothing. Then I changed my user name, nothing. And most recently I tried reinstalling the software and still nothing. I was, however, able to login on the same computer using one of my other family members acounts. I need help please!!!

Has your login name always contained an apostrophe.
This could be the problem, if it is, it is a bug on our side, but you might try removing it.

When a unit dies on a mine, this causes the game to abort with an "Unkown Error" black dialog.
We are working on a fix.
For the moment, I guess you might want to be EXTRA careful with mines. Only step on mines with a unit in good or perfect health.

Are you sure, the mine did not kill the unit?

It might have done. It was half way through a longish game, so I was working from (an admittedly faulty) memory Laughing

Yes, It has always had a apostrophe. I just took out the apostrophe and it still comes up with "Your login and username don't match"

I have a problem submitting bug reports,

I never had it before and now it has happened twice in a row, I tried to use Explorer rather than Google Chrome but it makes no difference.

It acts like I don't send a file but I try.

If your logfile is large, try zipping it before sending. That's worked for me several times.

Obviously your login name still contains an apostrophe. Remove it and give it another try.

It worked!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy . I tried removing the apostrophe and it still didn't work. So I decided to try using no capital letters and it worked. Very Happy Very Happy It's really weired since my login still has capital letters and I have always used capital letters before when it used to work. Well, at least it works now. Thanks for your help. You guys at DoW are doing a great job at trying your best to help everything to run smoothly. Keep up the good work. Smile
