A few general questions somewhat related to Disaster at Dieppe Battle Map

I'm prepping for our monthly overlord play using the Disaster at Dieppe Battle Map. I have a few general questions I hope others can comment on.
The Capture of Tobruk side is the first Battle Map scenario I've seen where Air Rules are in play. (Maybe the only one?). I don't have the Air Pack. Let's pretend I have the willpower to not buy it in the next two weeks ( ) do you think it will have much of an impact on the outcome scenario or playability? I have to admit I am hesitant to use this scenario, and all of the other new rules it has, to introduce the somewhat confusing Air Pack rules.
The Tobruk side of the map requires something like 16 minefield counters. I only have the 13 or so from the Med Pack and East Front. Any great ideas on how to boost my counter total without buying the Terrain Pack? I have some small red poker-like chips from an old Axis and Allies game. Maybe I could write on them and mix them in. Have to figure out what the proper distribution of mine #s would be through. Hmmm . . .
Finally, this battle map arrived in the worst condition out of all that I own. Is it possible to flatten these in any reliable way? The normal creases are off in some ways and there are some wrinkles in the non-creased areas. Is ironing on a low setting a bad idea?
Thanks all!

I have played this scenario twice without Air Rules and had a blast both times, so I wouldn't worry about omitting the Air Rules.
Regarding the mine problem.
Mark the mine hexes with something, and draw the mines from a pile of to the side of the map. I don't think you need more than 13.
or draw up 2 sets of Med.Theater mines on poker chips and draw/place these on the map.
I wouldn't mix in the red counters, becuase you will know what the numbers on those are. If you want to use those you should get 16 of them and just use those.
rasmussen81 has roll call documents on his user page that will show you the distribution of mines in the different expansions.
Enjoy!

I would agree with Stig Morten, either use all poker chips or something else to show the mines. If you want to check my Roll Call pages, you can follow the link to my Player Aid (just follow the link in my signature) and look for the Illustrated Roll Calls.
Have fun and good luck!! That's an interesting scenario.

I also agree that both scenarios will play just fine without Air Rules. Be aware that, either way, both scenarios favor the Germans, and assign the sides accordingly.
To flatten the map, some people put a sheet of clear plastic over their maps when playing. If that's not available, another possibility might be to use removable painter's tape on some edges.

Lay out the map some time in advance and put some books over the edges. That helps a bit.
Remove the books before playing.

If you're going to try ironing, make sure you don't put the iron directly onto the map, even on a low setting- a thickish tea-towel between the should allow the brunt of the heat and moisture to be kept away from the map. Even then, I wouldn't like to say what the outcome might be.

Going to try the heavy book method next!

I tried the heavy books approach overnight and it worked *much* better than the ironing.
Sometimes the easiest approach is best . . .
