Friends in Game and on dow.com/Importing Medals to sites Mon, 07 March 2011 14:41
Kudos to DOW for creating a great version of this game. I'm enjoying it immensely.

A few questions:

1) If I add a friend on daysofwonder.com to My Account will that person show up as a friend when I play M44 online if they are playing too or do I have to add them in the game as well?

2) I like how the medals from the online game can show up in our online sig. Is there a way to like to that data for use on another site? I'm starting a database of online players for our group that plays locally and was thinking of importing the medals as part of their profiles. Is that possible?

Thanks!

Your friends will be shown in the roster, no need to add them separately. Can't answer the other question Smile

For the moment, it's not possible. Why? Because the only way to import something like this from one web site to another would be to use a single image. This image would have to be built dynamically by our server.
The security safeguards of web browsers prevent one site to import HTML fragments from another site - except by using the dreaded iframe tag. Such security is good - it avoids the so-called "cross-site scripting" (XSS) attacks (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-site_scripting).

Will we do such a feature at some point? Probably. Once the format of the signatures is finalized, that everyone is happy with it, and that we have some spare time Razz, there is a good chance that we'll do it.

Great answer. Thanks!

I can always link to someone's profile. That will do for now.

(Great job on online play BTW!)

I coded quickly something that should help you out.

Use the following HTML code snipet, replacing XXXX by the ID of the player:
<iframe src="http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/custombb/m44signatu re/id/XXXX"
height="109" width="100%" style="border:0">
</iframe>
(remove the space in "m44signatu re", caused by our stupid BB formater Mad)

Please note:
- To find the player ID of a player, click on his name in the forum to open the User Info page. Copy the id from the URL.
- The height attribute of your iframe might have to be adjusted if the player has more that 3 rows of ribbons. Add 20 pixels for each additional row.
- The width attribute might have to be adjusted to your own needs too. A small width might force ribbons to be displayed on more lines, forcing the height to be adjusted as well.

iFrames are not very flexible anyway...

Enjoy,

Yann
