Memoir '44 Online Beta 21 Thu, 10 March 2011 13:55
Dear Memoir '44 Online Officer:

We are happy to report that we released the Beta 21 version of the software.

The final two scenarios of the Mediterranean Theater Army Pack

"Into the Cauldron" and "Flanking Maneuver at Bir Hakeim" conclude the implementation of the Mediterranean Theater pack. You will discover the fearless Engineers, the virtues of an oasis under the burning sun, and the challenge of opening a supply route through enemy lines!

New user interface

As you will see if you go to the "Service Records" screen and in the "Briefing Room", we started polishing the user interface. This introduces the final look-and-feel of the game. This new design brings an interface that feels lighter, less intimidating, better organized, and easier to use. Tell us what you think in the forum.

What's Coming Next?

First of all a BIG DISCLAIMER: This is development Software, and what is worse, Beta Software. So while we believe what follows to be the most accurate description of our development plans and status as of this date, some things might still go wrong: as a result there could still be a difference between what we plan to do and hope to accomplish at any point in time, and what we will actually be able to deliver over the next few months, in terms of timing and features…

You should expect to see the various screens been polished one after the other, as each new version is rolled out.

Be ready to grab your snow gear, because the next scenarios to come will make you shiver in fear; the wind-blasted plains of Eastern Europe will chill you to the bone and challenge your commander skills like never before!

Important: because some of our troops will take a well-deserved R&R, the next version will come in 3 weeks instead of the usual 2-week period. But don't worry, we'll try to sneak in 1 or 2 surprises for you in the meantime…

How to upgrade?

It is very simple, just launch the game. After you log in, it will detect the new version and offer to download it. Make sure you do so. Then follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

If you have problems, you can always go to http://www.memoir44-online.com and download the software again. Nothing will be lost, since all your profile is stored in your DoW Online account.

Details of improvements and bug fixes:

- [In-app store] French customers get a misleading error message after purchase
- [Scenario] Into the Cauldron
- [Scenario] Flanking Maneuver at Bir Hakeim
- [Game Feature] Engineers
- [Game Feature] Control Medal
- [Game Feature] Oasis recovery
- [UI] Officer Career redesign
- [UI] Briefing Room redesign
- [Server] crashing server deadlock
- [Roads] Units must move along the road to get the extra hex movement
- [Exit] asks a British armor if it wants to exit when it has used all its movements
- [Stiff upper lip] Flag rolled in SUL should ask the attacker to retreat
- Cannot log in if Login Name contains an apostrophe
- [UI] Expand the column Win %
- Other various fixes

And as always:

A big THANK YOU to everyone who play and/or send us bug reports.

Make sure you stay tuned on the Memoir '44 Online forum:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/thread/?frm_id=71

And above all, have fun!

I love the new design of the Officer Career page! Cool The top bar looks much better and I like the three hexes in the top left.

I'm not as excited about the "Service Record" page simply because it kind of looks washed out. I think the grid on the left side could be a little darker and the alternating lines of the "Last 15 Days" list could use some more contrast.

I look forward to playing the last few scenarios of the Mediterranean Expansion! Very Happy

And what do you think of the new Briefing Room (when you set up a game)?

The bottom part in the new Briefing Room is a little unclear, or it is a question of getting used to it. I will play some more and then add my thoughts. Well done, lads.

I haven't seen it yet... Razz I must have been one of the first people to load the new version because there was nobody in the lobby when I got there! It was a very unusual sight for this game these days!!

I'll check it out when I have some time. Cool

The lobby is the same, but you changed the scroll bars from green to blue????

Your name info in the top right is the same, still no ranking score. You still have to go to your service record to find it...

I preferred the back arrow to the X The X is very near the window X if you are in Windows xp and not using full screen. Does not make me think of going back but of closing the game.

The Scenario Briefing room page is much cleaner to navigate, the start button much bigger. But I do miss the extra background art. I liked the metal look with the screw heads.

But where did the chat window go???

Hell's teeth! And I've managed to get a mere 40Mb of v20 so far by pausing and resuming the download for small intervals before it crashes. Mad

I'll see if 21 downloads now then Sad

I too like the look of the Officer Career page, however I have to agree with others that the Service Record page has a washed out look. I had thought it was just me or that my graphics card driver needed updating. I would suggest that this needs to have a better contrasting colours (I thought the original scheme was ok Embarassed )

I also preferred the back arrow to the X for the same reasons that have been mentioned previously.

I am also not convinced about the scenario Briefing room page as I think the colour scheme here is a bit washed out again.

My comments sound negative but they are not meant to be, the game it self is fantanstic and a credit to all involved.

Keep up the good work.

The new look is fine, but it's mostly cosmetic- we need more info/ utility on the Service Record page;

Ability to filter out solo games- they're just practice.

A running total of my ranking against each game, so I can watch it go up and down. Mostly down.

In fact, I don't think there's a way to check your score/ranking in the game except after a battle? It should be on the service record page, even if a running total against each game isn't implemented.

Who do we report game issues (bugs) to? I was stopped during two solo games with a message that said something to the effect that the server stopped the game becasue johnny left. Never had an AI quit on me before... It also kept the gold used to play the game which would be real bad had I paid for it.

I agree the (<) is better than the (X).

The former indicates a "go back" one screen, the latter is "close" to me.

Great job DoW

Bingo, fill out the Bug Report form at http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/contact/sublevel/?entry_id=23 0 . It'll ask you for a logfile. You'll find that under the folder where your M-Online program is, in the log subfolder.

Also, check your account again. I believe that gold for aborted games is refunded 15 minutes later.

As one further item:

When you join a game, whatever is the rank for the person initiating the game, that is the rank that the second player displays above the chat window. Not a big deal, but there it is.

I'm not sure I fully understand this item, but it sounds like a bug of some kind! JP, you might check to make sure when this happens and then you should send in a bug report for it! Every little mistake or problem should be reported so they can all be fixed... Cool

I don't quite understand it either, but I think I've seen a case when I played a major, but his rank shown at the top of the screen during the game was first lieutenant. JP may be referring tho this glitch?

Yes, that's what I mean.... your opponent's rank doesn't always read correctly in the game screen - the one just prior to starting the game.

You're right, it's the screen before the game starts that's wrong. I just played dcbass, he's a captain, but at the scenario setup it said he was a major.

Good catch!! Report the problem and make sure to explain when it happens (unless it happens every time, in which case say that as well). I'll have to see if it's doing the same thing for my battles...I haven't been paying attention to that detail but I will now! Cool

Hi I'm trying to report a bug for the ambush card (game freezes, offboard panel dsiappears), but the bug report form doesn't go through and gives the error the connection was reset. doesn't seem to be at my end: does anyone else have this problem?

Try compressing your log file into a zip file. It will make it MUCH smaller and greatly increase your chances.

Thanks,

Yann
