Morgiliath (Axis) vs. Gunhawk (Allies)
"Montelimar"
Allies won.
A very close game at the end where every single move and die roll was extremely important. The eventual outcome was:
Gunhawk 6 medals. Morgiliath 5 medals.
I'd like to add that Morgiliath was playing with a handicap as he was celebrating St. Patricks Day and it was pretty late in Poland. (-:

FIXTURE 5
St. Vith
Rasmussen (Axis) 6 - Phread (Allies) 4
Phread started out with some great rolls and effective cards at the start and had an early 2-0 lead. But then the dice stopped coming up with hits and I was able to battle my way back into the game. I cleared my entire right flank and finished the battle with some lucky rolls against his armor.
A close battle that could have gone the other way if Phread had a little more luck!

FIXTURE 1
Dug In at Sidi Omar
Rasmussen (Axis) 6 - LooneyLlama (Allies) 5
Another intense battle that came down to the wire! Either of us could have won a few different times but in the end the battle went my way. These battles might be almost too close...my heart is still racing!
Thanks for the great battle, LooneyLlama! Good luck in the rest of the tournament.

Can anybody stop Jesse? He's got 24 medals in 4 battles if I'm counting correctly...
So I'm already out, unless I get six medals in my last battle (St. Vith) and the Allies can really hurt him.

Sorry, the tables turned on my poor man mochihead...
FIXTURE 2
Toulon
Rasmussen (Axis) 6 - mochihead (Allies) 3
With some lucky cards and good rolls the Axis were able to beat off the Allied attack. Most of the fighting took place in the center section with 3 Infantry Assault cards being played there (one counter attack and two cards). It was a tough battle but the Axis held.
Thanks for the great game, mochihead!

Wow! Congratulations, Jesse! A perfect record through five battles and only Montelimar is left, IIRC. You just might be the .
Looks like I'm playing for pride against mochihead tonight.
Nice work. I'll have to try again in the next tournament.

yes, the tables turned indeed. in retrospect i wonder if the tourney rules affected my strategy: i think i got a little too aggressive chasing weakened units going after medals which spread me a little thin, and jesse's well-played infantry assaults did me in. played again, i think i may have been more conservative and tried to keep those clusters intact, and i also may have tried to take advantage of the sudden death rule which of course didn't factor in my decision making here. it was a fun game, congrats to jesse.

FIXTURE 3: Montelimar
Mochihead (Allies) 6 d. Frankeytje (Axis) 3
As is so often, the game was closer than the score. Axis aggressively took Hill 300 early on, but the Allies pushed back successfully and in the end took back the hill. A timely BEL also helped get an Allied unit through to the Rhone for a critical medal.
Great game, tense moments on both sides.

Looneyllama(allies) 6 Frankeytje (Axis) 2
I had 4 left flank cards to start the game and quickly overwhelmed his right flank inf. and artillery. Then I had 4 right flank cards with TFH and overwhelmed his left flank and most of his center forward inf. It was pretty much over. Good rolls also helped. Toulon is very tough for the Axis to win with only four cards. Once that Artillery goes it's just a matter of time for the Allied victory.
We switched and Frank beat me 6 to 2. He basically did the same thing I did by quickly destroying my right flank inf. and artillery. Again, it was only a matter of time for the Allied victory. Unfortunalely for him, it didn't count for the tournament. Maybe we should have a second tournament where we switch sides. What do you think?

FIXTURE 6 - Tunisia
Frankytje v Phread 4-6
Allied victory 6-4 !
An unexpected win against the odds.
The battle started strongly for the Axis playing a "General Advance" weaking the infantry in the centre and one on the Allied left.
The Allied countered with All of their right flank weakening an panzer unit.
The battle took place on the Axis right and then the centre.
The Axis initially gaining the upper hand with several kills.
As the Allies were able to bring their armour into play the tide of battle turned with the panzers in the centre (3) being eliminated and a centre infantry weakened.
Eventually a pincer move on the 9th turn saw the Allies eliminate a 2 figure panzer unit on the their left flank and a single figure infantry in the centre for a 6-4 victory.
Even statistics, 42% hit rate for both sides, but the Allies got 53 shots in against 48 for the Axis. 26% grenades rolled for the Allies vs 17% for the Axis was the difference.

42 minutes..what a battle....thought the axis were going to get their butts handed to them to the tune of 6 to 2...but some great maneuvers on both sides made the battle intense...Top 5 battle of all time for me.

FIXTURE 5 - Sankt Vith
Gunhawk (allies) 1 - Frankeytje (axis) 6
i dont know what happened, but everything we axis planned worked out perfectly
cleaned left flank first, right flank soon followed
a desperate attempt only gave the allies 1 medal, they certainly deserved much more!!!!!!!!!!
im guessing they didnt have the orders needed to stop the Wehrnacht from rolling in
now Commander Frankeytje is going to sleep, fighting a war and alcohol isn't the best combination
goodnight new and old friends

Great results coming thru in the last 48 hours guys!
... And some real dramatic games by the sounds of it, as well a few 'disasters' ....
As we stand, 2 of the Allies have completed their fixtures, (Phread and Nygaard), and both have set the benchmark of 26 points. Phread eases ahead, as he's lost less medals.
Gunhawk could match that if he wins his final two games, but Mochihead, Loonyllama, and Sam can surpass that score if they pick up significant points in their remaining games .... WHO WILL COME OUT ON TOP??
Meanwhile, for the Axis' team ...
Geoff closes his account on 27 medals ... after a blistering start.
Frankyetje could match this by winning his final game, myself and Morgiliath could surpass it ... HOWEVER ...
We have Rasmussen undefeated after 5 games, (!!!) but David5272 is pushing him all the way, also undefeated after 4 games ... Can Jesse hold his nerve? Could they both end the group phase undefeated???
Time will tell folks ... keep watching this space !

FIXTURE 4 - Twin Villages
Frankytje v sam 1812 1-6
The dice were heavily biased against the Germans, as they rolled only 39% (7/18) against my infantry and 12% (2/16) against my armor. A German Armor Assault with their last two tanks rolled only 2/12. And when the Panzers came out to play, I rolled 46% (17/37) against them including several double- or triple-hits. It was that kind of game.
Plus, I was fortunate to have cards like a couple of Assaults, Artillery Bombard, TFH (4 orders, 2 toasted Panzers), and a final DHQ.

Actually there's a four hour difference between London and the East Coast of the USA. I can't get on until about 7:30PM on Sunday which probably means about 11:30 PM for you, but I'm retired and available almost every day during the day. If I get on at 11AM or so it will be about 3PM your time. Can you play during the day?
