Server crash? Sun, 06 March 2011 22:39
DoW HQ is under attack?
Was exited from a battle, and now am unable to log on.
Confirm status, DoW.

Pity it wasn't my previous battle, where I was pummelled by French resistance, with hopeless cards Mad

It did seem to crash.

A pity as I was in the middle of an interesting rematch in "Hellfire Pass." It was evenly balanced and could have gone eitther way.

The server appears to have crashed again at 0905 March 25 2011 GMT.

Again I was in the middle of a even battle in Hellfire Pass 3-3 with player551467.

That's odd, we did not get any warning from our monitoring system and the server seems to work right now.

Felt and looked like a crash (Jesse, before you ask, a bug report was submitted).

The battle hung in the middle of a turn.
When I returned to the lobby there were no players and no scenarios shown.

I was not offered an opportunity to rejoin the game.

Re:Server crash? Fri, 25 March 2011 10:56
Perhaps it wasn't a server crash.

player551467 appears to carried on with the game - after we both agreed to quit and report the bug.

This cost me 21 ranking points - which I would like back
This is/was a very dishonourable thing to do by him

This player has won a free listing on my "ignored player" list and I would recommend others add him to their "ignored players" list for this dishonourable action.

Phread, that is dishonorable of him to do that. I've pretty much eliminated playing anyone who is player#####. I've had too much trouble in the past with them. I know there are probably a lot of very good people with that moniker but I'm just not interested any more.

While I realize this was probably very frustrating and it sounds like he did not behave very honorably, I would strongly encourage this community to avoid naming players who should be ignored! Add him to your ignore list (maybe PM a few friends and suggest they add him to their list as well) but please avoid posting names of people to ignore on the forum!

I sometimes look over at the Ticket to Ride forum and I see how many people are complaining, throwing around accusations, and naming players to avoid...and I don't think anyone wants this forum to be the same way! Confused

Yes, quite. Let's act like honorable people despite the poor behaviour of others.

Sorry I disagree.

I did not lightly nor recklessly name the player.

He hadn't just refused a rematch. He made an agreement to end a match to report a bug and then dishonourably continued the match after I honoured our agreement.

It is up to you to decide whether you will play the player. I won't. I was and am unhappy with his behaviour and he will not get another chance from me.

It is understandable that you won't play that person again...but like you said, it is up to each player to decide and creating online "Blacklists" can very quickly get negative and does not reflect well on anyone.

We are all creative people and we can figure out ways to avoid the frustrating players without publicly naming them. Here are a few ideas to begin with:

1. PM a few close friends if you feel like the person was extremely frustrating on purpose and warn them not to play against this person.
2. PM the player and explain your frustration but don't expect to get a polite response or a nice apology if you do this.
3. Add them to your Ignore list and chock it up as a player who has issues...but now someone who you won't have to deal with any more.
4. Don't play with people who haven't bothered to change their User Names (so people who are 'player#####'). I don't necessarily do this myself, but it might be a good way to avoid people who want to remain anonymous because they don't play nicely.

In the end though, we can't change the way other people behave but we can certainly make sure the forum remains a possitive place! Cool

Re:Server crash? Sun, 27 March 2011 21:58
Thank you Jesse for your wise words.

For the record I will play (most) playerXXXXXX players.

It is only a very few of those that tarnish the reputation of the many.

I also player cadets, 2nd & 1st LTs, Captains & Majors regardless of their ranking points.

To players ranked around 1500 points or less I often offer suggestions on what they might do to improve their play - mostly asking if they'd like a suggestion first.

The M44 online conmmunity is an excellect group of people. I won't let the misbehaviour of a few tarnish my view of the vast majority.

regards
