Desert Fox Tournament Wed, 30 March 2011 14:52
Hello everybody,

I was waiting for the previous tourney to conclude with announcing this one, but Rasmussen and LoonyLlama certainly take their time about it Smile

So here we are.

The Desert Fox / Wüstenfuchs Tournament is for two-person teams. No whining here, folks, it's done on purpose.

Participants can volunteer in this thread, or as a private message to me. It is open to both individual players (who will then form teams) and teams of two players.

Minimum number of participants is 12, maximum is 32 (so from 6 to 16 teams).

The first phase - group venues
Teams that apply will be divided into groups. The number of groups depending on the number of players participating, not less than 2 and not more than 4 groups, with 3 or 4 teams in each group, which gives us a minimum of 12 and maximum of 32 players.

Teams will compete against each other in groups on the match/rematch principle, alternating players.

It looks like that:

Team A, players Avian and Aardvark, Team B, players Behemoth and Boulder

Scenario Dug in at Sidi Omar
Avian (Allies) vs Behemoth (Axis) 6-5
Aardvark (Axis) vs Boulder(Allies) 4-6

Scoring is - 1 point for every victory, therefore Team A 1, Team B 1 AND 1 point for the medal majority, therefore since Team B secured 11 medals on the aggregate vs only 10 medals by Team A, the medal majority point goes to Team B, for the final score Team A- Team B - 1:2, 10-11 in medals

If a team wins their match both ways, they will thus get 3 points, with 0 points going to their opponents. Note that draws are possible, with 6-5 5-6 score no medal majority point is awarded and the team score is 1:1.

Within the groups teams are ranked according to:
1) number of victory points
2) medal difference
3) medals won

Two best teams from each group advance to the xxx-finals (the xxx will be replaced by semi-, quarter- or the like depending on the number of participants).

Oh, and why Desert Fox? Because teams will compete for the mastery of desert warfare, playing only desert scenarios and following in the footsteps of Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel, aka Desert Fox, and the winning team will have the right to display that sobriquet in their signature Smile

The registration is hereby open!

May the best fox win!

Morgiliath,

Even though Jesse and I haven't completed the last tournament(we should this Friday as it's tough with a 9 hour time differential) I would like to enter also. Anyone in need of a partner please let me know.

I'm traveling during April and part of May, so I'll have to skip this one as my schedule isn't fixed. I'll be playing, but irregularly.

Hi all,

I am just trying to convince a friend of mine to enroll in the tournament.

I hope we still have 2 or 3 days left to officially enroll our team.

Thanx,

Viridovilas

I've found a teammate, but he will be away from April 16-23. Is there a timeframe for this tournament yet?

I just want to know if he'll be able to participate. So if it will be over or if we can take a 7-day week, he can play.

Thanks,

Geoff

I'm in no huge rush to start, so my vote would be to set a deadline sometime next week to allow Viridovilas time to recruit his friend and others time to join in...but then we also have a definite starting time that everyone knows about instead of a sudden announcement that enrollment is over. Cool

I have to be gone for a while at the end of April as well, but I'm assuming that we can be fairly flexible with the tournament timing...if we're in a rush to finish the tournament quickly, which I can't imagine happening, I would suggest that a teammate could play both battles for the week when your friend is gone (so you would play both enemies in his place).

But I would suggest that we expect some delays in the tournament from real life getting in our way! Razz So I would say your friend can join and we'll figure out a workable solution around his trip. Smile That's my vote, anyway, but others are welcome to weigh in as well!

Actually, I'll be gone for a few days in April as well, but as long as we're flexible...

SgtBob49 and I are in -- we shall be called the "Broad Street Bullies" after our favorite hockey team.

Thx for the welcoming and to Morgiliath for the tournament organization.

I used to play C&c ancients tournament on Vassal but we have never had a team competition: I find it a great idea!

I'll let you know about our team as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Viridovilas

There will be no rush in starting. First we need twelve players (condition fulfilled now, I think), but the more, the merrier, so let's say the deadline for registration is Friday, 8th April?

Re:Desert Fox Tournament Sun, 03 April 2011 00:56
That's why no hour stated. Friday throughout the day, the day understood as Friday 8th April, (21st April in Gregorian reckoning, 19th day of the 3rd lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit). Friday roughly in timezones from UTC-12 to UTC+12. Oops, Chatham Islands are outside Friday, then... Smile You are doomed...

And should anyone encroach on Saturday, I'll let it slip. I'll set off to setting timetables sometime over that weekend, anyhow.

Re:Desert Fox Tournament Mon, 04 April 2011 01:03
Phread has come up with the name for our team. It will be DESERT RATS! There was an old TV show about a commando group called Rat Patrol. They used a jeep with a 50 cal. machine gun mounted on it for their armor. I think they were made up of 3 GIs and one Brit. I know they never combined forces historically but they needed the Brit to give the show flavor and make it 1/4 accurate portraying the real Desert Rats.

The 7th Armoured Division was a British armoured division which saw service during the Second World War where its exploits made it famous as the Desert Rats.

Neither of us are british - but that doesn't matter.
The Desert Rats used Shermans (the american connection) in the later part of the desert campaign and my countrymen fought with them in the NZ division (the NZ connection).

Hi,

This is my first forum post but i've been playing a fair bit and I'd love to join in.

Sooooo my friend Isengard and I would like to join the tournament under the name 'Sons of the Desert', in honour of Laurel and Hardy (we just hope our wives don't find out were fighting in a war rather than convalescing in Honolulu!)

Hope we're not too late.

Dean

P.S: I was the fellow Englishment that Jaykay2010 was speaking about above, but unfortunately i couldn't pair with him, so i hope someone else is still looking for a partner so he doesn't miss out!

As I understand, we are in the phase of gathering people who are to join. Probably let's start Google document to set up a spreadsheet? The same SS would then be used to collect match results etc. My personal opinion is that forum posts will be a mess for collecting this info.. I may be doing the administrative part of this if you like.

And another thing, who is willing to make a team with me? Cool
