My favorite rule! Tue, 05 April 2011 03:44
We are numerosous to use home rules. Some people even use home rules without knowing it (lol). But I don't want to speak about my local group home rules here because in general you will desagree with it.

But one.

This home rule is my favorite and I could never play any scenario again (official or from the front) without it!

It goes: When an infantery unit (only) attack an artillery unit (only) at close range (1 hex only): the result "stars" on the dice is also a hit!

So sweeeet change! Sweet means not brutal: it's still tough to get at 1 hex from powerfull artillery with any infantery and still hard to receive the fire back from it when still alive and still at close range!

But at least some results and no more of thoses invincibles artillery!

IMAO!

Hi,

I find you rule fine. I also thaught it could be a good thing to make artillery weaker at close combat.

Another idea I had was that artillery would fight with only 1 dice ou even zero at close combat. Because I think this kind of weapon is made to hit far targets and should be vulnerable with close opponents.

PS : Excuse my english

I use only one houserule(knowingly, at least. Laughing )and that is:

If the scenario (standard size) involves Urban or Winter Combat cards I add in an extra set of Recon-1's in the deck. I find this to work very well as I like the Combat Cards and also like the Recon-1 card.

Does it make the scenarios better or worse? I don't know since I always use this deck, but I have fun at least, and to me that is the most important thing.

I like the arty lost on a star throw at range 1.
I'll give it bash onm my next game.

The only house rule I use, in every game, is a recon-1 amendment.

Take two cards as directed and add them to your hand, and then discard ANY card away to reduce hand back to correct number of cards held.

This makes recon far more effective, especially if you do pick up two "goodies", and a chance to clear out one of the "dead-woods"

The Recon 1 card is in the Base game and it one of the normal Command Cards that you play with each time you play...it's the card that allows you to choose 2 cards and keep one. Razz

To SBChurchill: TY but I dont think it's necessary ti weaken more the Art.
Our house rule just balance slightly the official rule in the side of the Inf.
We still respect the spirit of the conceptors ... and the capacity of the Art. together with its close protection platoons to fireback at you if you mised your attack with grenades & stars (in a way you deserve to be punished! lol!)

To Fred the Obscure: I LOVE your rule!!!
-Simple!
-Respectuous of the game (not a trash home rule)!
-Sooo efficient!

We take it!

Greetings ggleize,

Thanks for your enthusiastic response.
I'd like to take credit for the recon -1 amendment, yet I read it somewhere else, on home page or somewhere.

So a BIG thanks to whoever thought it up in the first place.

And thank you all Memoir players who contribute to the forum, this is what makes it great.

Ta,

You welcome!

I just think it would be a good idea to have a special sector in this forum to post and STOCK the good HOME RULES!
Like an "Official Home Rules Library":

Anybody could pick them up and insert it into their friday night game or into their own scenarios!

Someone (who? A webmaster?) would NUMBER the "clear" ones (and throw away the "messy" ones) like:

HOME RULE N°1
Author: Fred the Obscure
Title: Recon Card Choice
Rule: bla bla bla ...

HOME RULE N°2
Author: GGleize
Title: Artillery in Contact
Rule: bla bla bla ...

etc ...

Because the beauty of this game his OUR OWN IMAGINATION!

Cool

I know! I know ... the point is:

WHO would be given the MAGIC POWER to classify the home rules, eliminate the "bad ones" and number the others?

ARF!

Let's keep them all? And just number it? ... Why not!

The idea of creating a "Best of" Home Rules is a good one, and I would encourage you to create that list! Then post it on your User Page and you'll always have a place to look at for the best house rules. When people ask about house rules, you can direct them to your User Page, and you can update your ideas whenever you want!

Creativity is one of the great things about this community and this game! Cool

That was probably me. Embarassed

I've posted it on this forum a couple of times, along with my groups Plan B option.

To Rasmussen81:

Me & my big mouth: well ... TY for the proposal ... but I'm not sure I can start that right now (maybe later): JOB + 2 children still not sleeping at night!

For example: The last night I had to surrender my very first online M44 battle because of an army emergency supply problem: IMMEDIAT ORDER FOR A BABY BOTTLE FROM MY HQ 1 YEAR OLD MAJOR ANNA!

Confused

As I seem to have the time, and a good collection of home rules already, I'll take that challenge, if you all agree. Send me your home rules, but I think at least one to two others should help decide the good ones. We could vote on them. What do you think?

Well TY to take the challenge!

To choose between the good & bad home rules? Not easy but because YOU proposed to do it (you're gonna spend your time) ... YOU can make your first own selection.

To help I will say:

Your two main criterias could be:

1) Simplicity of the rule: a home rule that need 10 lines to be explained is suspect! Evident rules have evident explainations!

2) Spirit of the game: a rule can change things but must not go completly against the logic of the game. (For example: a rule can make some tanks slightly more or less powerfull as initialy but not make them definitively weaker than infantry etc ...).

And remember that a rule could respect thoses criterias while being completly opposite to YOUR vision of the game ... you should then accept it anyway and number it in the list!

Cool
