I'd like to see an option for typical "house rules". We can vote on the ones we'd like to see added. For instance, with the agreement of both players a unit, or units, could be deleted without penalty from either side to even up a scenario. Another would be to allow a player to play any one card of his choice to give an order to any one unit on his side in any section.

Great idea...almost all of those things are available in the Expert Mode version of the game! Smile

In Expert Mode you can play with any House Rule you want. You can eliminate units, teleport, roll 12 dice...though you can't add extra cards, I don't think. It can be really fun unless you want to play a real game and your opponent isn't interested in following any rules.

1) Move the dice rolled into the visual area for unit on the right edge of the board.
2) Allow the text window (flags, take ground etc) and the card choice after a Recon, to be movable. I need to see the area behind these pop-ups before making the decision sometimes.
3) If you have given an order to a unit, request confirmation if they have not moved or battled before proceeding to the next stage. Perhaps this could be an option in your personal settings. ie remind if an ordered unit has not battled.
4) Show the number of cards left in the deck.
5) Allow text typed during the battle to be seen in the battle summary at the end. Often I am halfway through typing something when the battle ends and I have to start again.
6) Allow us to view the map again after the battle has ended (for reviews) or even better allow replays.
7) Show ingot cost in invite window.
Cool Allow the card placement and turn-over animation to be turned off in our settings (I think it just slows things down).
9) Make the Grit ability of the Commonwealth (English) to be automatic - I can't see why anybody would want to decline that opportunity!

Much of this has been said before, but it is worth repeating.

Why might you choose to not to BCF counter attack?

What if you are holding the "Close Assault" card?
Might you give up 1 die roll BCF attack (risking a retreat) to have a 4 dice roll close assault?

There is a direct link to the Bug Report Form on the Memoir '44 Online home page but it's down at the bottom of the page in text, so it's kind of hard to find unless you're looking for it.

There's also a link to the Memoir '44 Online FAQ (which is actually the FAQ thread here on the forum) down in the same place. Again, it's small and maybe they should be made a bit more obvious.

I'm sure it would help new players find their way over here to the forum!! Smile

Just curious why a game is only one round? Instead of playing two where you switch sides. Because many of the maps are one sided, so why would I willing use my Gold Ingots in a game I know im most likely going to lose?

Because sometime people only have time for a single game (and frankly it can be fun to play the underdog and still win Very Happy )

And also because we haven't have had the time to fully code Rematch the way we'd like to (though you do have a rematch button already, which I am sure you have noticed, when you finish your first game)

Hi all,

Just two possible suggestions I was thinking of. (If they are old news and have been suggested before, I apologise in advance).

1. When playing solo, I think it would be good if you can save the game. I know the scenarios can be very quick when playing solo, but as the available scenarios get more advanced and can therefore, take longer, it would be good to be able to start, play 10-15 mins and then come back a bit later.

2. A second suggestion is a direction indicator for North/South/East/West on the actual map. I know it is usually explained in the Notes but I think this would be a handy addition.

I assume it would be difficult to implement this in the actual board game given that the game system is so advanced now with so many expansions.

Anyway, hopefully a bit of useful input. Again, sorry if this has been discussed/suggested before.

Brian

(P.S. Keep up the great work DoW, it is a fantastic game system)

When one gets award there is a special dialog box in the AAR screen to advise of your new award.

When one is promoted there is not an equivalent dialog box. It would be nice to have a congratulatory note from High Command.
(I was promoted yesterday and didn't notice for a while.)

Another feature I would like is automatic prepartion or arming of the ambush card when it is drawn.

I almost always arm the ambush card when I draw it.

I would like a setting (like the manual ambush option) to allow the ambush card to be automatically armed when it drawn from the deck.

My couple of suggestions, which aren't new:

1) "Being able to see the board would also be helpful when trying to choose what card to keep after a recon (1) in force is used."

2) "It would be really cool if we could see our wins/losses/overperform/underperform statistics totaled by the scenario played, opponent played (or just Johnny, as opposed to live opponents), and side (Axis/Allies) played."

About this last one, it would also be interesting if there was an option to ignore battles against AI in the current service record: I'm fairly new to the game, and I face Johnny/Hermann whenever I want to know of practice a scenario, while I consider battles against human players "the real thing".

In any case, congratulations to DoW for this great game and for the on-line software, which is wonderful!

I'll second this. I spent 15 minutes today trying to figure out how to report a bug and almost gave up. There should be a direct link right in the M44 Online application. There should also be a "contact us" option which should simply feed into the normal online communication for DoW.

Also, I'm still frustrated after finding the "report a bug" web page because it requires things like an "output.log" file which mean nothing to me. I just want to be able to report a bug like so:

"I was playing Wake Island today in solo mode, and during the game, a message popped up and said 'you have lost internet connection and your game has been temporarily suspended until you reconnect' or something like that. However, my computer never lost internet connection, and when I went back to the M44 main menu, there was no option to rejoin a game in progress, and the game session is apparently lost."

If DoW wants additional log files, all the more reason they should have a bug link directly in the app, so it can gather appropriate files and send them automatically along with the player message. I give up on reporting the above bug - I don't have time to waste to figure out how to report it to DoW.

Another suggestion: let the players view the final map after a scenario is completed. Sometimes I'm surprised that a victory was even won, because I forgot some special condition (like temporary medals or a sudden death condition). It would be nice to review at least a bitmap of the final board layout, even if it's no longer interactive.

I also agree with a previous suggsetion to allow solo games to be saved (and exited) if desired.

Re:Feature Request Log - Beta-testers Only Please! Sun, 08 May 2011 21:33
I have a new suggestion: improve the Bug Reporting page; it is hard to handle:

1) I tried to compress my output.log into a .rar file and then send the bug report. The system displayed the following message in the output.log field: "Mandatory field" - even if at the top of the page it said "Thank you for reporting...". So, it didn't recognize the .rar file , I guess.

2) After the above situation, I picked the output.log file without compression (8.3 MB) and filled the bug report again. Apparently it went through, but I'm not sure about this, since the new page display was very similar to the previous one "Thank you for reporting...".
When a bug reports goes through, a simple and short message that leaves no doubt in one's mind, should be displayed, in my opinion.

I'd like to see more information inside invite window:
1. Rank of inviting player - I want to know strength of the opponent, before I accept.
2. Small scenario map (just like this, which appears after choosing scenario) - I don't remember all scenarios by name, so I accept, but then I see, that I don't want to play on this map and I quit, which is not so polite... This will be helpful especially for new players.

Regards to all M44O team!

Good suggestions. I would like to see this other information:
The cost of the scenario.
Win / loss ratios
Number of medals required to win
Rematch requested

A text area where you can ask a question, make a comment before accepting or offer a reason why you cannot accept.

It is perfectly acceptable - IMHO - to accept the invitation then when you realise that it is not one you wish to play that you apologise to the other player, say why you don't want to play the particular scenario, wish them well and leave.

You can always invite them to join you in a scenario you do want to play.

I have left before playing when - in a uneven scenario - the opponent won't say that they will or will not play a rematch.

As I stated above I apologised and went back to the lobby.

When I shift-click on unit I can see it's "threat-zone".
I'd like to see also it's "move-zone" (using normal click) not only during my move-turn part, but any time (also during opponent's turn).

This might have already been suggested, but I think it's important enough to deserve a second post if it was...

We need to have a way to indicate our time-zone both on the forum and in the game. The time zone could be displayed along with the region that we're from and should be something standard like GMT. This feature will make tournaments much easier to arrange and is key information for this Memoir '44 Online system!!

I would also like to be able to get the info on a battle without having to start the mission.

It would help to also make this info available on the battle request.

Jesse, everyone already has a way to indicate their time zone in the forum - use my example and add it to their signature.

Of course that assumes that people know what their local time zone is and how to find the offset from UTC to their local time zone. (And then how to compare their local time zone to someone else's time zone.)

I generally manage knowing the offset from NZST to Eastern Std Time and Paris and London time zones.

People can set their time zone in the M44 online settings. If the setting is correct it can allow others to calculate the time zone offset.

You can do this already from your Officer Career page of the DoW Online website using the icon at the top right listing your battles.

Right, but since this is a place for making suggestions about the Online Game, my suggestion was to automatically put our time zones in with the other information provided in the game. Smile

Right now I can see their Skill, their approximate time zone (New York, Paris, etc) but it would help if I could see their UTC or GMT in the game itself. Of course, it's just a suggestion but I think it would make life easier! Cool

As a teacher, Jesse, you should know a little mental arithmetic never does one any harm.

You suggestion, btw, has merit for those who've played games for sooooo long that their mental arithmetic has stopped working.

Or for anyone who hasn't memorized the time zones and doesn't want to look it up...it's all a matter of making the process of figuring out time zones as easy as possible!!

Also, mental math is overrated! Laughing (just don't tell my students I said that) Razz

When it is your turn the games shows that you should play a card in the lower right corner of the screen.

Don't know if we can still request features now that 1.0 is out, but what I'd like is a status in the lobby for "Invite me", to know who is just there looking around or waiting for a buddy, and who is looking to get invited for a game by someone.

This is a great idea. It also seems like some players login ids stay up after the quit. I don't know if there is any way to fix that, but it would be nice.

A few ergonomic suggestions. (Most of these probably aren't new.)

1. Ability to rearrange your cards -- perhaps optional, as a Setting. (Currently being discussed on another thread.)

2. In the Lobby, a filter to see what scenarios are in yellow (i.e., what scenarios have open invitations). Currently, if there are open challenges far down the list, you don't see them.

3. Make the "Do you want to take ground" and "Do you want to perform an Armor Overrun" boxes movable. Sometimes, they cover the part of the board you need to look at when deciding.

4. Make the player choose an option on "Do you want to take ground" and "Do you want to perform an Armor Overrun." Don't default to "yes." Numerous times, I've accidentally taken ground, out of terrain protection, because I hit Enter while typing a comment to my opponent. People shouldn't have the potential to lose games because of typing errors like that.

5. On the Recon choice, make it possible for players to see the position when choosing between the two cards.

6. Dim the highlighting on units that have already completed their movement.

7. Since the "Done" clickboxes for Orders, Moves, and Battles are all in the same place, an accidental double-click can bypass the player's movement or battles. Put the three Done buttons at different vertical locations within the box, to prevent that error.

8. I'm sure DOW has been working on much more pressing matters, but the "ratings" formula still needs to be fixed. (Few points for small wins, significantly more points for overwhelming victories.)

After a game, when a player is typing an AAR, give auditory and visual cues to the opponent. (For example, typewriter sounds and a change in the AAR box's color.)

Several times, my opponent has typed an AAR and exited before I knew he had done it, so I had to go through the "Are you sure?" box in order to return to the Lobby.

Can we see the scenario author for SFTF scenarios please?

It would be nice to know who deserves the thanks & credit.

Also it would be nice to be able to enter an AAR (even for solo games) for SFTF battles - the author may like to know how the battles went.

There's an ergonomic problem with the Automatic Card Arrangement.

The card miniature moves across the screen, a little too fast to be sure what it is. Then the miniature disappears and is almost immediately replaced by the full-size card at the appropriate location in your hand. But if you have other, similar-looking cards, it's hard to tell which one is the new one.

Put some sort of marker above the most recently drawn card, so the player can identify it.

Don't ask if a retreat flag should be ignored when the final figure is eliminated.

I think this has been asked for before. The dialog that asks if a flag should be ignored is unnecessary when the dice rolled have eliminated all the figures in the unit.

It simply slows the game down to ask a player if they want to ignore the flag when the unit involved is about to be eliminated.

It shouldn't be hard to implement. Compare the number of hits rolled against the number of figures the unit has. If the number of hits is equal to or greater than the number of figures (the unit has) then don't ask about the flag(s) just eliminate the unit.

Thanks in advance.
