Memoir '44 Online Beta 24 Tue, 10 May 2011 16:16
Dear Memoir '44 Online Officer:

We are happy to report that we released version Beta 24 of the software.

After the jungle, caves and night combat!

Use your Engineers and Flame Thrower Tanks to attack the Japanese in their caves at " Sugar Loaf and Half Moon" and "The Meat Grinder".

Will you see the morning dawn after battling furiously during the night, trying to resist the fierce "Japanese Counterattack" on the island of Guam?

Tutorial and other features for beginners (important)

As we inch closer to the release of version 1.0, we have began to add more features that will help new recruits learn the game.

In the main screen, the Solo button was replaced with a new Tutorial button. Newcomers who click on this button will watch a (yet to be released) tutorial video and be directed to play Pegasus Bridge in Solo as their first game following this watching. Since this video is still in development, there is only a placeholder screen at the moment.

When first-timers click on the Play button for the first time, a couple of slides are now displayed, explaining the Headquarters screen. These slides appear only once.

We have also begun to structure how scenarios will reveal themselves to beginners as they start learning the game. By default, only a limited list of scenarios by will be displayed to new players. As they play games and progress in their Officer career, additional scenarios will progressively be revealed to them. These limited lists of scenarios are simply preset filters from the "show" pop-up menu. You can select "All" at any time if you would rather see the whole list of scenarios, but unless you are already familiar with all the scenarios the board game has to offer, we recommend playing the scenarios as they are presented to you.

This progressive system should help ensure a smooth learning curve for new recruits.

Please note: if you are an experienced Memoir '44 player and want the full list all the time, you can completely disable this progressive list system. Go to the Settings screen, and in the Game Options / Scenario List section, choose "Always all scenarios".

A few other things

There is a new "Tovarich" (Comrade) Achievement that you can win by impressing a Russian Commissar with your dedication to the Soviet War effort Wink.

The installer software is now faster when performing an upgrade: no questions are asked, and the game is automatically launched once the upgrade is completed.

And as usual, we have fixed a number issues (see detailed list below).

What's Coming Next?

First of all a BIG DISCLAIMER: This is development Software, and what is worse, Beta Software. So while we believe what follows to be the most accurate description of our development plans and status as of this date, some things might still go wrong: as a result there could still be a difference between what we plan to do and hope to accomplish at any point in time, and what we will actually be able to deliver over the next few months, in terms of timing and features…

We hope the tutorial video will be ready in time for the next release. New Web pages will also appear on the game Web site to welcome beginners and help them get started smoothly.

Our main objective for the next weeks will be to fix all remaining bugs. Make sure you report any suspicious behavior regarding the game rules (or anything else) by using the Bug Report Form at http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/contact/sublevel/?entry_id=23 0

How to upgrade?

It is easier than ever before: simply launch the game. After you log in, the game will automatically detect the new version and download it. Make sure to follow the instructions that appear on your screen, if any.

If you have problems, you can always go to http://www.memoir44-online.com and download the software again. Nothing will be lost, since all your profile is stored in your DoW Online account.

As always, great job and another wonderful update. I'm looking forward to playing the new scenarios.

The auto-update feature did not work for me when I logged in and I had to go download the program from the web site. I'll send in a bug report to that effect.

I have a question... has anyone been able to successfully battle with engineers with -1 die and remove wire? If so, how is it accomplished?

thanks,

Geoff

When I enter the lobby, there are always only the Mediterranean scenarios visible in the list, and I have to change the settings to "show all" each time, which is rather cumbersome. Did all of you expierence this?

Yes, this is a bit irritating. But what difference does it matter what screen it starts on?
I usually find that I am looking for scenarios in one particular Theater anyway. But it would be nice to go to the ALL screen.

I was playing "Sugarloaf and Halfmoon" as the Axis and I moved several units through my cave network. Acording to the summary card I should still have been able to fight. Is this a bug or a misprint of the summary card? Don't worry Ras I sent a bug report. Very Happy

I believe that you can adjust this setting by going into the Settings area and saying that you want to always see all scenarios. It was explained in the update post... Razz

Jesse, the Progressive Scenarios Setting is different from what Turboheizer and Stevens are talking about. When they (and I) see upon entering the program is only the Med scenarios.

On the Progressive setting, beginners can choose to start with seeing only a group of basic scenarios, and then they can progress to more diverse scenarios later.

JJJ, you're correct. It's a bug.

I just reported it, too, and added it to the Beta24 Bugs thread.

Change the settings Jesse was talking about, it should solve your issue.

Also note that now, filter combinations are persistent, so when you come back into the headquarters the filters are set like they were the last time you changed them (except if you are in progressive scenarios mode).

If you want to see all of the scenarios when you log into the program, follow the note in this version's announcement. It says,

Quote:

Please note: if you are an experienced Memoir '44 player and want the full list all the time, you can completely disable this progressive list system. Go to the Settings screen, and in the Game Options / Scenario List section, choose "Always all scenarios".

This should solve the problem people are having. Cool

This is the order you MUST follow, otherwise you get to avoid the wire dice reduction when attackng, which is specifically against the rules.

Several of you reported a bug related to taking ground on Japanese caves.

We are investigating.

Yann: I was playing a battle at 8:08 PM EST (the Meat Grinder). My opponent was in the UK, when on the probable final turn we were hung up in battle on both sides and could not battle the last two units. The score was 6-6 at the time. We waited quite a while but nothing happened.

Was there a server problem at this time. We exited the game, as resuming usually does not work. Please advise.

Thanks

Send in a detailed Bug Report (there's a link in my signature area) and make sure to include a log file for it! Without the bug reports, there's not much the crew can do to fix the problem because they may not have time to search through and find this mistake. Smile

Did someone try to take ground onto a cave?

This will hang the game.
