AAT 2011 (All-Around Tournament 2011) Sat, 04 June 2011 22:34
Hi all

It is time for the all-around tournament third edition.

Changes of the rules are in bold.

A) Registration ends 18/06/2011

B) Tournament starts 19/06/2011

Schedule of the tournament:

Round Robin: 19.6-15.07
Knockout : starting 15.07 one week for any round needed

C) Tournament Structure:
* First phase with small groups (Groups will have max of 6 players, but best option will be 5 players)
* Knockout Phase (number of players passing to the KO phase will be decided by the TD at the start of the tournament according to the number of groups)

D) Match Structure:

*Best of 6 series
*We will use all the maps: USA, Europe, Swiss, 1910, Big Cities and Mega
*IN RR:First game, the higher ranked player will choose the map and he will start. In the second game this will be done by the lower ranked and going on alternatively.
*IN KO:
-In all the rounds players that were 1st placed in the groups will gain the "higher ranked privilege" regarding the starts over players worse placed.
1st place gains over 2nd and 3rd place
2nd place gains over 3rd place
-In case of a match between players that reached the same group position in round robin, the "higher ranked" will go to the player that had the higher point average in group phase.

*The ranking of the players will be the one that will be used to make the groups at the start of the tournament.

E) The Round Robin games can be played at any order
*In the round robin all the games will be played.
*In the knock-out the games will be played only up to the point needed to declare a winner.
*Ties count and will be considered like half point for both players.
*In the case of a tie after the six games in the knock-out: a 7° game will be played with the map chosen by the lower ranked player and the starting random. If a 8° game is needed, a different map should be chosen by the higher ranked player and while the start will go to the player that didn't start game 7.
Alternatively if both players agree before the match, a player must win by 2 games. Game 7 will be played with map chosen by higher ranked player and lower ranked player will go first. Choosing alternates till a player wins by 2. Cannot chose the same map till all maps have been played an equal number of times. (Thanks Drake)

*In the knock-out phase there will be a week to play each round (deadlines will be declared each time)
* Points in the groups: all games count. League rules apply: 1 point for each game win (0.5 for ties) and 2 point for a series win (1 for a tied series).
* Tie-Breaker in Round Robin: 1. points won, 2. matches won, 3. direct match, 4. games won. 5. initial ranking

F) Games should be played open in the knock-out rounds. Choice of the players in the round robins.

G) Seeding and ranking will be made through 2-players ELO as taken by TD at the start of the tournament in the groups formation.

H) There will be one TD.

I) I would like to play it . I can do the TD too if noone of you disagree in this, otherwise I will search another TD or as last choice I will not play.

J) This tournament is thought as a fun competition to be done during the summer, so I take the right to reject players that are suspicious of cheating or do not meet basic netiquette.

K) To sign up for this tournament, please reply in this thread or send me a PM.

Hi Qorlas,

My schedule in the summer is busy. As such I am hesitant to sign-in for AAT 2011.

However, if you do not get to 10 players, or have an odd number and need a player to make it more fair, I would be willing to help the Tournament out by becoming a player.
(just ask for patience among the other participants in attempting scheduling.)

Maybe some others feel same way about signing in for this tournament. So any other who may sign in, note: A) Registration ends 18/06/2011

Why are all the "other" maps so unpopular? I can understand that learning a new map takes some time, but haven't most Top players peaked at their skill of the 2P USA map, and ready to try something new.

Do players not want to join this tournament because they will lose rating points on maps they don't know well? If so, maybe we can play matches unrated. Or the fact that it is a round robin style tornament and takes too much time, and maybe it should just be single or double elimination.

Re:AAT 2011 (All-Around Tournament 2011) Fri, 17 June 2011 02:25
Is it possible to add the following to this rule:

Quote:

*In the case of a tie after the six games in the knock-out: a 7° game will be played with the map chosen by the lower ranked player and the starting random...

Alternatively if both players agree before the match, a player must win by 2 games. Game 7 will be played with map chosen by higher ranked player and lower ranked player will go first. Choosing alternates till a player wins by 2. Cannot chose the same map till all maps have been played an equal number of times.

Could be reworded. Its fairly easy to tie in this format, so would like a chance to have a better tie breaker option. And its only if both players agree.

Ok, I'll try to play the tournament again ... therefore

I'm IN!

To all players proposing possible scheduling to me, please be aware that I am now at Atlantic Standard Time, that means UTC-4 or MESZ minus 6 Wink.

Drake:

good posts both of them Smile

1) I am adding the rule you ask I like it, the option is going to work if both agree before the start.

2) I don't know why this tournament has not more players really....
I think it's both factors:
A) Players preserving their ranking from risky new maps
B) Time slot in the summer after a period with many tournaments..
in spring we have at the same time CL, League and SPWC.... probably there is a rest time here.

I am going to reduce the size of the groups this year to make the tournament quicker.

We are 11 now, we need another player to make 3 groups and play in small groups!!!!

Re:AAT 2011 (All-Around Tournament 2011) Sun, 19 June 2011 22:28
Just a clarification of my win by 2 rule.

As written, the rule would only kick in (if players agreed before match), with a 3-3 tie after the 6 games.

I didn't think about a tie and it being 3.5-2.5 after 6. As written the win by 2 rule wouldn't apply. So is this the way it should be, or should you have to win by 2 no matter what.

I thought about games after a tie for the win by 2.
Did you mean also in cases of 3.5-2.5?
In these cases there is a winner after 6 games, but I can see your reasoning.
Tell me your thought... I am open to set it, 3.5-2.5 case is quite rare so we can work with it, but why should we not consider winner the player ahead 3.5-2.5?

Re:AAT 2011 (All-Around Tournament 2011) Mon, 20 June 2011 01:09
I guess the win by 2 should only be if it is tied 3-3 after 6.

If it ended 3.5-2.5 each would have gotten 3 starts and all maps played once, so that is a fair ending.

Interesting both 2009/2010, the finals went to a game 7.

Ok we agree.

Both rules are only to be used only in case of a tie 3-3 in playoff. Smile
