Getting annoyed

I'm ashamed to admit I just left my game, for the first time since I play. Major Kain, I'm really sorry about that.
I'm getting annoyed, the past five games I did not loose because of bad management but because of bad dice, cards or else:
lost three games with differences in hitrates between my opponent and me of over 20%. (with my lowest of 18%)
lost one game in which my opponent didn't play a single "normal" card but only special attack cards.
lost another game in which I (ok, not completely) got only cards of the wrong section which got hammered by my opponent.
I really love this game, the mechanics and the theme but I'm getting really frustrated about the bad luck you sometimes have. More people share this problem?

Hi, sleepwalker --
Welcome to the Forum. I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck. Like any of us who have played a lot, I've been both the victim and the beneficiary of streaks like that.
Just one clarification (which may be stating the obvious): If you're talking about overall dice percentages, your hitrate will depend on what kinds of units you're both targeting. Excluding special cases like Air Power and flag-hits, the average hitrates are 50% against infantry, 33% against armor, and 17% against artillery -- so if you're targeting tanks and he's targeting infantry, there generally will be a difference.
DOW has stated that their die-roller doesn't know what target the dice are being rolled against, and they published statistics showing that the dice totals have been in the right proportions. However, I don't believe they've performed statistical randomness tests, so there is a possibility that the dice could be a little streaky. (On the other hand, maybe we just notice the good and bad streaks a lot more.)
As for the cards, it's true that sometimes there's nothing we can do, but there are other times when we can improve our odds through careful card play or troop movements.
Keep the faith. Bad streaks don't last forever -- they only feel like they will.

I would echo sam1812's comments.
I have played over 1300 battles. In that time I have had sequences of battles where I have had very good cards and dice, very bad cards and dice, very good cards with very bad dice, very bad cards with very good dice and lots in between.
You will get sequences of "good luck" and "bad luck" over a series of battles. Enjoy the good runs and learn to plan for the bad runs.
Keep playing so you will experience the good that does come after the bad.

I've just played a set of six games over the last few days.
The first 3 were superb (For me at least)
Good cards good dice and an opponent who, had he been Russian, would not have survived much longer with Stalin around.
The next 3 were awful
The exact opposite. All excellent cards in zones that were useless and no defence at all, in the other areas. (At least the games were over very quickly.)
My ranking went from about 90th (1680) up to 28th (1722) and then back down to nearly 100th (about 1670)
Of course during the first set, it was my excellent tactics and planning that won the games. For the second set, I must have had a really bad cold and obviously i couldn't concentrate!!!
Of course in the previous 2 months I have had numerous games which were really close and exciting. (Some I lost and some I won)
Memory is a funny thing
A year from now I will be "telling the grandchildren" about the time were I just couldn't lose or maybe about the time were I discovered a bug in the program code, as it is impossible to have such a sustained run of bad cards/dice.
These things happen
Best advise I can give
Shrug your shoulders and have a break (At least for a few minutes) and then try again.
After all, it's only a game and games are and should be played for FUN
Sleepwalker
All you need to do is challenge me and I'm sure your luck will change (After all I have discovered this program fault that means that it targets me with Rubbish cards and dice)
rasmussen81
No, I have not submitted a bug report!

If you are playing and the other player leaves its downgrading your victory pleasure also.
So to all who read this my advice, don't quit!

An alternative is don't quit, but do take a break.
It is well known that, and this is no joke, PC gaming can be addictive and lead to 'issues'. One of the signs is getting cross and impatient, with yourself and your friends and family (or who ever you live with) when the game do not go in your favour. I'm not saying it's always the case but if you are playing all the time and getting a bit tetchy
If I have a losing streak and I'm getting frustrated I take a break for a day or two then come back refreshed and less cross at my misfortune.

bad luck makes great stories.
beat this.
the other night i played their finest hour. six cards means six dice...three grenades, three flags...that means NO move...!!!! my opponent amusingly figured out it was a 0.0137 percent chance to come up with nothing on six dice.
yeah. lost that game.
in another game, i had six cards he had four. i got to roll 37 dice, hit 10 percent. he got 75 dice, hit 51 percent.
did not win that one either.
last night i rolled so many double and triple stars that even my opponent thought we were having a bowl of lucky charms (green stars, they are magically delicious)
heh, it is frustrating. it happens...but then you play again and it eventually evens out. sometimes you're the baseball, sometimes you're the bat.
--at least memoir keeps track of these stats, so when the game is over and there is such a HUGE disparity of luck you can at least walk away with your honor and ego massaged...heh, even Rommel had bad days (well, a lot of them actually).....

I hate the TFH card. It is too versatile. I play it as soon as possible. Do not keep it for the final turns when you or you opponent are 1 or 2 medals from finish.

Except you get an award for rolling 4 flags at least.

This is correct. I once rolled 4 of a kind for TFH but got no medal.

Same for me: rolled 5 flags with the TFH card, but did not get the medal.
Seems you get the medal only when rolling dice for battling.

tx for the answers, I'm glad I'm not the only one arround.
Even bigger tx for the advice to leave the game for a few days. It helps.
I've not played the game online for two days. lost two out of three live games though
Now I'm back, right now losing big time 'cause of a lot of stars when I don't need them, but can handle it, I won't walk away anymore

A lesson from Kipling's words:
"If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son! "

That's why I like the forums because you realise other players suffer the same thing and it's not just the bit in code that states:
If player.name = "<insert your name>" then GoodLuck = False.
Some good advice here. I got very frustrated today because of wrong cards / dice / luck / stupid sun shining in my eyes, and nearly jacked it in. Taking a break definitely helps. I came back and enjoyed a couple of games (a win and a loss).
Note to self: enjoy it more, shrug and move on. Even when it's really really hard to do so.
