Memoir '44 Online 1.1 Wed, 06 July 2011 11:13
Dear Memoir '44 Online Officers:

After one month of intense battles between thousands of new recruits, we are happy to release version 1.1 of Memoir '44 Online!

Introducing Expert Mode

The long-awaited Expert Mode is now available! It allows you to play your own scenarios in Solo mode or against your friends. It also allows you to publish one scenario for other players to play.

Here is how it works. Design your own scenario using the Memoir '44 Scenario Editor and save it to the Days of Wonder Online storage area. Launch Memoir '44 Online, go to the Headquarters screen (the lobby) and click on the "My Scenarios" tab. You will see your scenario there. Select it and push the Play Solo button to try it.

You may also play your scenario with your friends by inviting them. To do so, select your scenario and another Expert player, and push the Invite button. Have fun!

Once you are happy with your scenario, you can make it available to the community. However, keep in mind that you are allowed to publish only one scenario. So make sure you publish your very best scenario. You want to publish something that will bring praises and recognition from your peers! Published scenarios appear in the "SFTF" tab (which stands for "Scenarios From The Front").

Battles played from the "My Scenario" tab cost 2 GI. Battles played from the "SFTF" area cost 3 GI.

Note that access to the Expert Mode is available only to players who purchased this option (included in the Captain Pack and Major Pack).

To gets started with the Expert Mode:
- Important: download the latest version (1.1.4) of the Memoir '44 Scenario Editor by going to your Download Center at http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/download
- Read the new chapter about the Expert Mode in the user guide to learn the details. The manual can be downloaded from http://www.memoir44-online.com/download/manual

One last word: in the Memoir '44 Scenario Editor, there are several special rules that are not available yet. For example, you cannot activate the Russian Commissar or the Night Visibility Rules, etc. These options will come in future versions of the Editor.

New Installation Procedure

The installer was reduced in size from 137 MB down to 43 MB! But don't worry, we are not magicians. We simply separated the 94 MB of graphic files from the installer. These are downloaded later on, the first time you restart the game.

So be patient at the game restart, while all the graphics are downloaded.

Now the good news: this is the last time you will do this. Since graphics rarely change, next time you download a new version it will only be the light installer, and you will be playing again in no time!

Two New Scenarios

You will find two new scenarios from the Eastern Front: Battle of Warsaw and Rzhev. Will you succeed in holding the Warsaw fortresses?

New Achievements

Are you an Armor Veteran? Prove it by earning the "Armor Driving License", the "Armor Excellence" and the "Michael Wittmann" achievements.

Check your Officer Career page to discover which achievements you have received: http://www.memoir44-online.com/career

Other Improvements

You can now choose if you want your hand to be sorted automatically for you or if you want to do it yourself. Go to the Settings screen to choose the option you like the best. If you choose "Unsorted Hand", you will be able to organize your hand yourself by holding down the Shift key and click-and-dragging your cards around.

How to upgrade?

As before, simply launch the game. It will automatically detect the new version and download it. Make sure to follow the instructions that appear on your screen, if any.

If you have problems, you can always go to http://www.memoir44-online.com and download the software again. Nothing will be lost, since all your profile information is stored in your DOW Online account.

Details of improvements and bug fixes:

- New Expert Mode
- [UI] Suggestion to re-arrange cards
- [Achievement] Armor driving license
- [Scenario] Battle of Warsaw
- [Scenario] Rzhev
- [Roads / NADR] NADR should not be limited to road hex even if armor only moved on the road hex
- [BEL / Retreat] BEL should not freeze when the attack is ambushed and the attacker must retreat
- [Hospital / Air power] Hospital should not ask the attacker if he wants to heal the unit
- [Robot / ignore flag] Robot should ignore the flag, or not, but not freeze in this battle
- [Ambush / Retreat] retreating more than 1 hex away should not teleport the attacker
- [Lobby] selecting a player should display his details, and never trigger the error view
- [Lobby] should not freeze when displaying the players list
- [Auto-ignore] should be restored after a game
- [core] Password with special characters should not freeze the client
- [Core] muted (swearing) player should be un-muted after a while
- [Robot] should support when Russian play first
- [Into the cauldron] The "Decoy medal" is illegible
- Various fixes in game engine

And as always:

Make sure you stay tuned on the Memoir '44 Online forum:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/thread/?frm_id=71

And above all, have fun!

NORTH AFRICAN DESERT RULES SCREWED UP!!!!

Memoir '44 Online 1.1

1st Armoured to the Rescue

stevens (Axis) vs. Cityman (Allies)

This error happened on both sides.
When battling with armor, bot will not let armor take ground and then move an extra hex.
Sometimes when it does allow extra movement, the bot shows that you can move 3 hexes instead of just the one extra.

Memoir '44 Online Beta 1.1

1st Armoured to the Rescue

stevens (Allies) vs. Cityman (Axis)

This error happened on both sides.
When battling with armor, bot will not let armor take ground and then move an extra hex.
Sometimes it allows the extra hex of movement, but then when you make the extra movement your turn ends and you don't get to battle again
for your overrun.

You have no idea how frustrating this can be to line up the battle and then be denied movement. This bug is awful......
This happened in both games. Once or twice it worked but it is intermittent and frustrating.

Paul

BUG REPORT AND LOGFILE SENT.

Experienced same error on
SIDI REZEGH AIRFIELD as well.

I will continue to play the Mediterranean scenarios to see if this BUG is on ALL of them.

The updated version of the user manual is now available:

http://www.memoir44-online.com/download/manual

You may skip directly to the last pages: there are two pages that give details about the Expert Mode and how to publish your own scenario.

We are curious to discover your first scenarios!

Have fun!

Re:Memoir '44 Online 1.1 Wed, 06 July 2011 17:12
The bug is confirmed Sad

The bug affects the North African Desert Rule.

Basically, what happens is that your extra-move depends on the number of movements that you have left. So for example, if you moved only 1 hex before attacking, and you perform an armor overrun, then you should be able to move again one more extra move. You'll see 2 hex moves proposed for this extra move. You actually can do only one (which is correct).

BUT if you exhausted your movement capacity before your attack, you won't be able to do this extra move at all after the overrun (you can still do the overrun movement).

This bug was introduced when addressing a small issue related to tanks on roads in the context of North African Desert Rules. It escaped our tests.

We apologize for this serious issue. It is going to take us 24 hours to come up with a fix and test it. So until tomorrow, we suggest you stay away from the Mediterranean Theater.

We'll keep you posted.

Yann

One good question just came up in the Headquarters chat:

"What is the meaning of the * asterisk in the second column of the players list?"

This indicates a player who is currently playing a game in Expert Mode (i.e. on a scenario he made).

Some more tips: the "Show" pop-up menu has an "Experts" item that will show you all players who have the Expert mode enabled on their account. Likewise, an * asterisk is displayed in the player's info panel.

Have fun!

Make sure you try it and let everyone know what you think of it.

Have several questions about the expert mode. I published one scenario into that area and here are my findings:

1. Expert games do not count towards player's rating, right? I did not notice any changes to the score after I played it with two people. Is this supposed to be so?
2. Expert games do not earn statistic calculations e.g. average medals, etc. Why?
3. It still reads that the scenario has not been played by anyone. Must deal with the previous item.
4. Do players earn achievements when playing scenarios SFTF?
5. Also I noticed that scenario details do not get updated after I re-save changes to the scenario. However when you are inside the game, it would be the most recent version of the scenario. Looks like description and some details get 'cashed' somehow.

Appeciate answers.

Correct.

That looks like a bug.

Yes that's the same issue

Yes, the scenarios textual content is cached for the duration of the session. You actually need to quit and relaunch the game to fetch the latest version.
If that proves to be a problem, we might had a "time to live" feature...

Thanks for the quick response. Hopefully you guys can fix the issue with stats soon, I already created a topic to encourage players to test the scenario, probably other people will identify something additionally.

Congratulations to the Days of Wonder staff for the excellent 1.1 update to Memoir '44. I have now had a chance to play the two new regular scenarios and the brand new "Straight From The Front" scenario. They are all wonderful and wonderful additions to the original list of 41. Memoir '44 provides great value today and great promise for tomorrow.

I've also enjoyed the card sorting the other minor enhancements provided in this update. The responsiveness to our requests and the attention to detail are greatly appreciated.

I'm sure the staff hears nothing but gripes and bug reports all day long, so I'm here to say: "Job well done. Very well done, indeed."

Dear players:

We released a 1.1.2 upgrade. It fixes the North African Desert Rules issue. It also fixes the problem of empty fortresses blocking the artillery line of sight.

Enjoy!

v1.1 is being updated and v1.1.2 will soon be available.

I assume this is a quick bug fix release.

The separation of program and graphics is good as v1.1.2 is "only" 40.6MB.

Please disregard the issue - I figured out what was causing that Embarassed

The front filter was set to Eastern while new scenarios were set to Western front.

I have downloaded 1.1.2, but I see it that when I click the Installer App, it says it says I am installing 1.1.0. It does the whole process, and then it auto-launches the app, only to tell me I have the old version and it starts downloading 1.1.2 again... Help?

Are you on Mac or Windows? Which version of the Operating System?

Do you have Administrator rights on your machine?

Can you please confirm that you downloaded the 1.1.2 installer from the Web site? Were you doing a complete new install or were you installing over a previous version?

Could you please send us the log file? See http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/contact/sublevel/?entry_id=23 6

Mac. 10.4.11

Yes to Admin rights

The file name of the download is 1.1.2.

At first I logged on to the game, and it told me there was an update. It automatically started the download. I cant remember exactly if it did the next step or if I manually selected the updater, but when it didnt work I restarted my comp to see if that would work.

When this didnt work I went direct to the website and tried a download, with the same result.

Whenever I launch the updater it tells me I am running the 1.1.0 Setup.

Surely you must be opening the wrong DMG file. I just tried, upgrading from a 1.0 and from a 1.1, and it worked great in both cases.

Could you please try the following:

- UNMOUNT any volume named M44Online (use the Eject button)
- Download M44Online_1_1_2.dmg from the Web site
- Make sure you open this one (and no other one)
- Launch the installer. You should see 1.1.2 in the title bar of the window. If it is not the case, you are using the wrong DMG file.

This should do it.

It all fails, trash the application, and launch the installer again.

I would be interested to hear what worked (and what did not).

Thanks in advance,

Yann

Of course not. Again, you should see "1.1.2" in the title bar of the installer window. Please confirm.

Okay I am stumped.

I downloaded the 1.1.2 app off the website again from my home computer and then tried loading it this morning on my work comp. It keeps installing 1.1.0

What other approach can I take? Can I get the dmg file from somewhere else?

Have you closed the Bug-report form? I get a "Page cannot display" whenever I try to post it.

Anyway - in Expert mode (Taierzhuang) my opponents get booted at the beginning of each game, they can the re-enter and have no problems after that.

I saw that problem with my opponent Titanos when playing "Defense of Brest Fortress" today. Both times (as either side) he got booted and rejoined at the 1st turn.

I invited him, is that why it happened to him?
Didn't think it was a bug to report (sorry).

Not sure I understand your question. The Expert Mode gives you access to all additional scenarios created by other players. It does not change the number of official scenarios you can see.

How do I get my new scenario onto the SFTF? Is it only scenarios specially selected by the staff? If so, how do I convince you that it is an excellent scenario that should be on SFTF? I can only see it in "My Scenarios", and even there I can't read any info or see the preview pic when I make it public in the scenario editor. I tried to upload it again as a new scenario, but then a new problem came up - I can't seem to delete the old one again, so now I have two almost identical scenarios with the same name on "My Scenarios". Please help!

Csak akkor játszhatod le a nem hivatalos pályákat, ha Captain vagy Major packet veszel. Sergeant-tel csak több GId lesz. A hivatalosaknak nem kell Expert mód.
