So was server or a router down last night? Wed, 17 August 2011 04:23
Sometime around 10:15 PM CST last night, both myself (in USA) and the guy (somewhere else in the US) I was playing with lost connection. I couldn't get back on for over an hour. I thought maybe the online server was down, but I also couldn't connect to the DoW website. I'm surprised there were no posts on the forum today. Did a router go down?

It crashed on me last night at 11:16 Eastern Time (same time as your 10:16), while I was in the Lobby. Exactly the same symptoms you describe.

Then tonight, the same thing happened to me at 10:23PM and 10:58PM Eastern Time. But this time, I was in the middle of a game each time. The first time tonight, my opponent did not crash; he finished the game, playing against the bot. When I got online, I saw lots of people still in the middle of their games.

The second time tonight ... well, I'm still trying to get back on.

Yes, a router card blew up in our data center last night, making all of our servers (and not just ours) unaccessible for a couple of hours. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do except wait for them to fix it.

Apologies for this.

Thanks, eric. I empathize with your pain, and I'm comforted to know that I'm not going crazy.

What? You mean you don't have an entire room full of back-up servers and routers so that at the flick of a switch we can continue to feed our gaming cravings?

I'm shocked I tell you, shocked.

Shocked

Yes, we do of course. We're still at the mercy of data centers though, where things can go bad even when all your systems (which is the case for ours, routers included) are redundant. Just ask Amazon, for instance. Or Apple with their web store right now! Rolling Eyes
