AVG detects a Virus with M44Online Fri, 26 August 2011 05:21
My AVG anti-virus program has detected a Trojan virus in both the M44 main executable (Memoir'44 Online.exe) and the uninstall.exe. Is there are virus, or is this a mistake?

AVG will not let me run either file at the moment. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem with AVG as well on two computers. I have reported it as a bug. See my earlier post. Your description is more concise than mine.

Hmm, that's strange. You are the second player to report this problem...

The best thing you can do it submit a bug report using the Bug Report Form that can be found down in my signature area. Be sure to give lots of detail so DoW can figure out what's going on. I'm sure they will look into the problem and I've already sent a Private Message to some of the DoW staff alerting them to the other forum post about this same issue.

Good luck with the Bug Report and sit tight. This game is worth the wait! Very Happy

I'm bummed out as I was hoping for a historian badge tonight.

I'll check back in a day or so. At least I'm not alone....

oh bummer... looks like you got a nasty one.

The infection is most likely on your computer hidden in an area AVG does not/ can not scan. It then infects programs you download in the hope of being uploaded someplace else. That is my guess...

try Avira, it is free and top of consumer reports a few months ago.

also, if you have a second pc, pop out the hard drive, put it in a case and then scan the whole drive on the second pc... kind of over kill but the offline drive scan will dig up all kinds of buried nastiness locked into the root system. Some of the viruses out there can hide in the most hard to find system files.

I truly hope that is how you got it. DOW has always been clean.

good luck

avg is giving me the same warning.

i trust avg implicitly -- it has kept me virus free for three years (yes, i have the version you buy)[ my wife's computer continually got hit no matter what free ware or norton i used, but once i put her on avg her machine has been clean.

i urge the dow folks to do a sweep....this just came up 20 minutes ago on mine (i played six hours ago, no problem)....

AVG not only told me there was a virus but shut me down from playing the game at all. I'll have to reinstall - if DOW figures out what is going on...

avg scans say it is a trojan horse Dropper.Generic4.AJES

it is found in
memoir's program files, in the following three places.

install4j.\Memoir'44Up...
uninstall.exe

and, perhaps most worrisome,

Memoir'44Online.exe

Please let the memoir people know....

My scans don't reveal this infection.

Is it possible that this is a "false positive" from the AVG scan or that these files have become infected on your computers? (Unlikely I agree).

And to check I rescanned my "Memoir'44 Online" directory and found no problems or issues.

I got the same problem when I tried to play today. Nothing the day before yesterday, this is a recent problem. Odd, as normally I'm virus-free. Was there an update recently?

BTW I am not using AVG on this PC.

M44 Online hasn't been updated for about a month.
If the issue started today then it is AVG that has been updated.

Either there is an infection in the M44 code, or AVG is reporting in error - a false positive - possibly due to the communication code required for an online game.

avg scan healed and moved the infected files to the virus vault.

now i can not get to memoir, as the exe file was one of those.

so, DOW needs to check into this and to let us know how we can get back into playing memoir..

My friend is reporting the same thing, he uses Norton. I've not but then I've not connected for a week.

This sounds bad, even if the virus ismasquerading to be from DoW M44
