tried the fix for avg....but when i go to memoir 44 online the computer can not find the exe file....that is because it was healed and moved to the virus vault by avg.
so what do i do?
do i go to memoir and do a fresh download?
if so, how do i ensure that i get it with my particulars back (name, rank etc).
thanks
|
No worry about your name, rank, etc... As long as you use the same login name and password as you always have, everything will be there, because these infos are on our servers, not on your local machine. So you will never lose any of this by re-donwloading the software, no worry.

Open AVG by right-clicking on the AVG icon in the task bar and selecting AVG User Interface
- Open the Tools menu -> Advanced Settings
- Scroll down the list on the left until Resident Shield.
- Click on the + icon in front of it, and select Excluded Items
- Click on the Add Path button, and select the Memoir '44 Online folder. You'll have to look for in in C:\Program Files\
- Click OK
Worked for me

Yes, AVG moved it to another place.

Yes, simply get a fresh download an re-install it. But before you do so, use the procedure I described earlier to add the Memoir '44 Online path to your list of exceptions, so that AVG does not screw you again when you install it.

No worry there, these are safely stored on our servers

thanks.
i did the avg fix earlier.
then downloaded a new memoir from the home site...quick and easy.
when i clik'd to start, avg asked me if i really wanted to proceed, and i said yes anyway.
game played like a charm...everything just like it used to be...all my stats etc...and i even won two games in a row vs a lt col...so obviously it fixed my poor luck dice (grin)
thank you again, Yann and everyone else for their support....Yann deserves a great big huzzah!

No seriously: great work on this topic by the tech people of DoW (and Yann in particular).
Let's just hope AVG tech people are just as motivated to serve their customers.
At least, our avg-using opponents are available again thanks to the work around, but as long as there is no fix from avg, I hope no real virus installs itself in the memoir 44 drive of those players.

Thanks guys, but I'm not alone in this issue, a few other colleagues are helping me back-stage. So I don't deserve all the credits, and I will make sure they also get their share
We are going to send an e-mail to everyone, so that other players who might have missed this thread don't freak out during the week-end.

Jesse he asked for a good suggestion.
I've been using McAfee on some of my computers and AVG on others and find both work well.

I have tried multiple times, and it still doesn't work on my laptop (Windows 7). I just tried a couple minutes ago, and it won't open the .exe part.

Sorry if these are dumb questions but could you give us some details:
- did you verify you upgraded to the new version of the virus database, referenced 1520/3861?
- if you had added M44 to your list of exceptions to get it running prior to the new update, where you able to run it then?
- if you had added M44 to your list of exceptions earlier, did you remember to remove it after updating your virus database?
- last not least, if you had not added M44 to your list of exceptions earlier (and so were not able to run it then), did you try, after upgrading to the new version of the virus database, to do a clean reinstall of M44? (the reason being that if AVG moved your .exe to a "do not execute" folder earlier, even if you update your virus database, chances are it still won't let you run .exe it had deemed dangerous earlier).

To find it, open the AVG User Interface, and write down the two numbers in front of "Virus DB:" on the lower left side.

Hi folks, just got home after a superb family holiday to p[ick up this thread,
Jesse, I'm on an Apple ... is it ok to keep running Memoir Online while things are still uncertain? Both having Apple's I'm assuming we're not affected by this, are we? Or is it something that can affect/infect the program?
Hoping to know before I resume playing

You should be careful with apples - they can get diseases too, bacterial, fungal, parasites, worms, viruses.
Apples often need to be quarantined.
As for computer ailments you should be pretty safe.

| Apple computers are not affected by Windows troubles.
Besides, let me say it again: there is nothing wrong with Memoir '44 Online! It's only a bug in one Windows anti-virus software.

And yet my friend still has a problem with N360 and you've yet to respond or even acknowledge this, all the time suggesting it is only one anti-virus program, AVG.
That no one else is reporting N360 issues does not mean there is no issue.
So tomorrow he's off to get his PC cleaned up and dump the game because he's had no one from DoW show one iota of interest.
Not much I can say really.

Did your friend contact us and send a detailed report of the issue he is facing? If so, a reply will be coming shortly. If not, I am afraid there is not much we can do.
Please keep in mind that anti-viruses do give false alerts from time to time, and there is nothing we can do on our own when this arises, aside from contacting the Anti-Virus developer and hoping they react promptly.

Being on a Mac (or Apple) we don't have to worry about this False Positive problem. In fact, I was finally able to get online the other day and play a few battles from the Pacific and won both of them, so the program is working better than normal!!
Welcome back from your holiday! Where did you go?

Any bug or suspicion of a bug (either in the game or like this where it seems the program is giving a virus) should be reported through the Bug Report Form! You'll notice that when this problem first started, I told people to send in a Bug Report because it's the only sure way for the DoW crew to see that there's a problem.
Even with the best intentions, they aren't always able to read through the forums in detail and they might miss something. By sending in the Bug Report Form, DoW gets an e-mail that allows them to follow through.
Tell your friend good luck! DoW takes customer service very seriously, so don't give up on them yet!!

At last some news from AVG!
They sent us the access codes to their white list server. So this allowed us to submit the Memoir '44 executables to their system. They will process these files and add them as "good files" to their database. Hopefully, this will settle the matter for good.
This being said, I have no idea of how long the whole process is going to take for them. To say the least, AVG has not been very communicative for the past 7 days. And once again, this is happening on a Friday
Anyway, we keep you posted. Hopefully, we are close to the solution.

Like everyone else on this thread I got the Trojan error thingy. I was using the AVG Free 2011 version.
On a whim I updated to the new AVG Free 2012 edition, removed any Memoir '44 files and tried to install the game.
Got no Trojan Warning what-so-ever during the install, but did get one when I launched the game. I clicked "allow" and the game is running fine.
Here is the AVG Version info:
Version: 2012.0.1796
Virus DB Version: 2082/4479
LinkScanner Version: 706
Hope this helps.
