Two New scenarios and Achievements Thu, 08 September 2011 15:10
Dear Memoir '44 Online Officers:

While we were not able to accomplish as much visible progress as we had hoped during the summer, we are pleased to introduce 2 new scenarios and 2 new achievements to your favorite game.

New Scenarios

The two new scenarios released today are:

- Operation Spring: a bloody battle in Normandy with some deadly German tanks, infantry and artillery that caused lots of difficulties for the Canadian troops.
- Knightsbridge: do you love tanks? This desert scenario seems very simple - and empty - at first, but you may find it difficult to defeat Rommel, despite your numerical superiority. A very tactical scenario for the British forces.

New Achievements

We also released two new Honor Achievements, to be gained on the burning sands of North Africa:
- Desert Rats: awarded if you win all the Mediterranean Theater army pack scenarios as a British commander.
- Desert Fox: awarded if you win all the Mediterranean Theater army pack scenarios as a German commander.

How to get the new Scenarios and Achievements?

There is nothing to download or upgrade. Simply launch Memoir '44 Online, and voilà!

If you don't see the new scenarios in the Headquarters screen, it's likely because you did not yet reach a rank that is high enough to have all scenarios displayed by default. If you still wish to discover these new scenarios before making it through the ranks, simply choose "All" in the "Show" filter of the scenario list and these new scenarios will automatically appear at the top of the list.

What's coming next?

A combination of factors (vacations, work on our server infrastructure paving the way for future growth, etc...) has held us back a bit over the summer. Our focus remains on delivering an updated version of the Scenario Editor and completing the Expert mode to support the same feature set that is available to Official scenarios.

And as always:

Make sure you stay tuned on this forum.
And above all, have fun!

The Memoir '44 High Command at Days of Wonder Headquarters

May I ask when the new Desert achievements will be earned? As ist seems, some players got them without winning all MT scenarios again. So, do prior victories count?

Thanks Yann,

been there - won both from both sides Smile

Got both achievements.

Can you do more tomorrow?

LOL

Operation Spring is 3 Star Excellent Quality. I foresee many good games there.

Knightsbridge is sub-par. The British player is at a big disadvantage. Historically I also recall more infantry being there.

Turbo - you don't need to win games again, nor it seems Knightbridge but you need to play at least one.

I played Knightsbridge and won both sides and got no award. But before I had won every scenario from every side.

Then I played 1st Armoured to the Rescue as Brits and lost but got the Desert Rat Achievement but as stated I had won it before (at least 3 times)

Then I played it as Germans and won and got the Afrika Korps Award.

So there Wink

Yes, it goes through your whole history of games. They are just simple Honor badges, not Expert ones. They are more intended to people who are mid-rank.

Achievement seems a giveaway to your Colonels. How about something that everyone has to earn?

[edit:]Too bad you don't have to win Knightsbridge, at least that would be some effort for the Colonels.

The only Colonel I see who has received this award is Jokull. So maybe it only applies to a small group.
OR MAYBE IT IS AS SIMPLE AS DOWNLOADING THE NEW SOFTWARE.
Which I haven't yet because I am at work. DUMMY!!!! Embarassed Embarassed

Re:New scenarios and Achievements Thu, 08 September 2011 23:12
I had previously won ALL Desert scenarios, in fact all missions from all sides - each one at least twice since I had to do all again after I made Lt Col.

Then I won Knightsbridge and before doing anything else I finished Operation Spring.

The I thought I'd have to redo all the missions but was incorrect.

I played 1st Armored to the rescue as British and LOST and got an achievement.

It is possible you need to win all and then play one more game?

Because then I played 1st Armoured to the Rescue as Germans and won and got the second Achivement.

So the conclusion is;

You need to win all and possibly Knightsbridge too, and that would explain why I was the first to get the Desert Rat.

But you need to play one more game after that and then you get your Achievement.

I haven't downloaded this program recently so it isn't that.

Have you Steven won all missions inc. Knightsbridge?

Re:New scenarios and Achievements Thu, 08 September 2011 23:18
Could it be that there is some kind of bug regarding the two new scenarios? Since they have been introduced, the win ratio has changed rapidly, which is not very surprising. But while the scenario list in the upper left part of the screen correctly shows the actual win ratio, the map info that appears in the lower left corner if you click on the scenario title still shows the original percentage rates. At least that is what I am experiencing at the moment.

NO.
I have won all games twice from BOTH sides to make Colonel, but I have never played Knightsbridge.
I will play it and try to win for each side and see if that is the determining factor.

Re:New scenarios and Achievements Thu, 08 September 2011 23:29
you don't need to win knightsbridge ....

You need to have won each original desert scenario (mediterranean pack) on the appropriate side ...
As colonel, you probably have done so ...

But since the game only check for this requirement when you finish one of those scenario's, you need to play one (winning or loosing doesn't matter) and then the game checks if you have earned the medal for the side you just played.
If you do, you get it.

Then you can play the other side ... and you can get the other one!
That's how it happened for me. Have not won any of the new scenario's yet ... I tried and lost ... Embarassed

The new awards do - initially - seem to be a gift to the high ranked officers. To this moment they have been awarded to a Commandant, Lt Colonels and Colonels.

Not surprising as we will have already qualified - I know I have one every standard scenario at least twice from both sides, probably 3 times.

But thanks, DoW, for the new awards. I hope they achieve their purpose and encourage more players to play in the sand.

I have an affinity for the desert scenarios as my countymen fought valiantly there, kicking the Afrika Korp's butt after getting their butts kicked by the Afrika Korp.

When I look at your Career Page, I can see that you played Knightsbridge twice against 'joeyian'. Have you played the battle more often than that?

If they aren't showing up in your Career Page, that would be a bug worth reporting to the crew so they can look into it. Smile

They are mentioned in the service records, but not in the statistics in my officer career.

Also when I am in headquarters where it mentions xx battles they did not count them.

I found another little bug ... in the Knightsbridge scenario info screen, the desert rules are listed as a feature of only the British player, although they always apply to both sides.

Is that a bug or a typo (a typo being a mistake in the writing)? If the battle plays with the Desert Rule only applying to the British player, then I'm sure it will be fixed. If it is just a mistake in the writing, it was probably a mistake in the original scenario (since they basically copy and paste the text) and will likely not be very high on the priority list.

It's worth reporting, though!

I don't mean the text (which only says "North Africa Desert rules are in effect"), I mean the little symbols (in this case the one of a desert hex tile) that show the special features on the M44O start screen. Seems to be an error of omission and has no effect on the gameplay.

Ah, now I understand. It's a mistake, so it can be reported but since it doesn't have an effect on the battle I don't know how quickly the crew will fix it or if they will.

Good catch! I've played that battle a few times and didn't notice. Confused

I totally forgot to report this bug...sorry, Jesse -- how many demerits have I earned? Embarassed

I've noticed that when you play infantry assault, you have to click on a unit that is not on a border to make your orders. This is to make sure that you choose an entire section.

However, in Knightsbridge, there are no infantry, so you order one unti instead. As the British, I was unable to order my artillery, since they are on the border between sections.

Also, maybe you would like to infantry assault with a single unit on the border of a section.

Perhaps there is a better mechanism for this card...

Do I absolutely need a logfile to report a bug?

You only get one demerit this time because I discovered this same bug and reported it a few days ago! Very Happy I don't know if you need a log file to report...try sending in the report without one and see what happens. It should be an easy problem for them to reproduce, so the log might be less important.

Either way, you can rest easy since it has been reported once. Smile

To select an infantry on a border hex with an Infantry assault click on any hex in the section (or in this case either section).
