Problem with Private Messaging Tue, 01 November 2011 05:17
While I was chatting with a friend in the Lobby via Private Message, someone else typed that he could read everything we were saying.

I tested this by sending a PM to a different player, and my first friend was able to tell me what I had said, and to whom. In other words, the Private Messages are not currently private.

Either someone has cracked the Enigma code or Wikileaks has struck M44. I sure hope nobody's been telling secrets over the loudspeaker there.

I've filed a bug report.

Oops! Shocked Laughing

I wonder if DoW could make it so we click on someone's name and one of the options, like "Buddy" and "Ignore" was to invite them to a private chat...it would make things a lot easier than typing in special 'code' to make it private... Smile

Just an idea. Rolling Eyes

Yes, Zaph, your name was on the list twice. I've seen that with other people before. I just assumed you had been disconnected without the server realizing it, and reconnected. (Or a ghost, for Halloween.)

To report a bug, go to the Contact Us link at the bottom of any DoW web page, and under Memoir you'll find a link for reporting bugs.

To find the logfile, fo to your Program Files subfolder for Memoir Online. Under that, you'll find a "log" sub-subfolder. The most recent "run" file is your most recent session. (I believe your session has to be ended before you can send it.)

You can do a screenshot with ctrl-alt Print Screen. Paste it into your favorite Paint program, and save as a JPG.

I look forward to seeing one copy of you Smile online in the future.

Are you sure you were typing:

/pm @yourFriend bla bla bla

You really need to type both the /pm command and your friend's name prefixed by @

Yann

Agreed. Make it a little more user friendly or it's not going to get used. Someone was 'ringing' me yesterday and I could not remember all the details required to successfully send a private message.

Whoops -- Thanks, Yann. I thought it was just @yourFriend bla bla bla. That would be a problem.

I'll have to check it out later tonight.

It keeps telling me the username is not correct...Do I need to type in the rank before the name?

Don't use the rank. Just type the first few letters of the user name (e.g. "@Jo" when you want to chat with JohnDoe) and then press CTRL+SPACE (if necessary, repeatedly) to auto-complete the user name.

BTW, I agree that this solution is not the most user-friendly way to initiate a private chat. I also sent somebody a message the other day and he asked me how I made the message to appear red. I think, that the vast majority of players are still completely oblivious to this feature. I hope that DOW can improve this feature somewhat.

Thanks for the tip Fluffy Smile
And I also agree that the PM feature could be more user-friendly.

Thanks for fast reply.Rather than play computer jargon I,ll assume its the servers fault or Kip[my offsider I blame for everything]
But last night I typed gg,hit enter at the same time the screen changed and it froze{just like 1990s video games.}Had to go into task manager and manually end everything.Processes and apps.Dont know if a bug or perfectly timed double command.Any other freeze issues arisen?Hope not, thats so last century. But then so is world war two.
