Are you using the Breakthrough deck for non-Breakthrough scenarios? Tue, 08 November 2011 23:54
I have only experimented with it in a solo capacity, but, I recently introduced the Breakthrough deck to standard game play. To me, it makes the game immensely more satisfying. It feels a lot more realistic to me being able to bring up troops in other sections while being engaged in another. In what I have played so far I have not experienced a great distortion in the game play versus the traditional deck. I did play it a couple of times in which the grenade symbol generally was only effective at close range (1 hex). Anyone else had an experience with this?

it's my groups default way of playing now.

for us it makes the battles feel more like a WWII battle with better command and control than the Ancients and Napoleonics versions of C&C.

It does make M44 Online a bit harder to adjust to though. Sad

Maybe you are thinking about the Breakthrough boards. The OP is refereing to the Breakthrough deck of cards.

I have tried First Wave at Omaha wit hthe BT deck. It gave the Allied added manouvrability, but didn't help the Germans as much, because they don't have that many units and doesn't need to move as much as the Allies. Germans still won it but it was close.

I like that it makes the game seem a little more fluid and even when you don't have the best hand of cards you still have the opportunity for movement. I look forward to trying it beyond a solo experimentation and seeing how it impacts playing time.

We have found the breakthrough Deck of cards does make for very interesting standard games. I totally agree that the maps where one side is entrenched or has fewer units they would like to move, can see a shift in game balance to the more mobile attacking units. Though we have played games where either none of the order + movement cards have appeared or very few have been dealt out. Still the cards make a great addition to gameplay.

It can be interesting, but looking for replayability, maybe to play a campaign with combat decks can be more interesting.

We go to try it in some campaigns we already played several times with standard deck. We will ask for a reserve token if you want to use some cards of combat deck (sniper or reinforcements)
