This tournament has to be fun.
The seeding put in the same group 2 players living together.
Not sure it will be really fun for them and for their opponents.
So, first (and last I hope) ruling from the "no-TD but organizer" : ommie will move from group B to group A, and I will take her place (the winner and the finalist of last year : no objection of the opponents I think)

toutoune vs Karin 3:2
snake: 93-118
5 tix: 159-110 (I took even 6 from begining: LA-NY, KC-Hou, NY-Atl, Dal-NY, Bo-Mia and Mon-NO)
8+: 61-100 (I needed to break the rule to win)
open: 121-104 (Win-LR + Van-Mon)
5er/6er: 126-93
I had LA-NY, Sea-NY and rejected Mon-NO. After my first move (4green), Karin played Cal-Hel. I had then to break the rule to do my tix. From the begining I knew that I would use the 6 yellows. Which was unfair in that case because it gave me points, time to fill plenty of possible tickets for security (Cal, Van, Port...) and find at least one in my penalty resolution (LA-Chi). This way to play is unfair, but I used the rules. I am sure that a lot of discussion was done on these rules, but they are imho unfair. I really think playing a 6er (to avoid a block but also to gain points, finish quicker, gain the longest bonus...) is in 95% case the right strategy whatever your tickets. (we may do some stats on this round robin tournament to see what is the winning percentage when you break the rules) Then the game is spoiled. What about a straight loss if any 5er/6er is played?).
Additional question: what are the rules if you take two 5er/6er?
Again, sorry Karin

Why does nobody ever listen to me????
| dea1 schrieb am Sat, 19 November 2011 13:23 | Suggestion:
Start the new rules with a clear statement about the desired etiquette for the event.
1) Is it perfectly OK to violate a rule intentionally if you are willing to take the penalty?
2) Or is it considered an ethical NoGo to violate the rules on purpose?
My impression is, that most participants would prefer #2.
If that's the case, say so clearly, or you'll have the same discussions again, whatever the new penalties are.

Well, toutoune played the tourney last year and mentioned nothing in the rules thread for a whole year. Wake up !
Is being unfair not fun ?
CREATE THE FAIR TOURNEY !
Violating the rules is definitely ok, and i personally encourage it !
Most participants ? onyx, ishamael, knock, pibat ? = 4 persons... 21 players that played in 2010 signed up again this year...I assume then that most of those players like the original rules (Jasmin, Teddy, wasdenn defended them)... so we decided to stick to the spirit of the rules of last year and nevertheless edit the penalty applying to some games...
If you take 2 6er, penalty applies, take 2 tix the very next turn each time.
If it was not ok to violate the rules, then why not offering a straight loss for every game to make it simpler ?
(please file a complaint for 2012)

Toutoune, When you say you broke a rule and described it below, was that in game 3, 8+ or in no 5er/6er? Because the penalty in no 5er/6er is 2 tickets each time it is broken. That rule was changed the first year due to exactly what was described there about unfair advantage in cheating to take a 15 point 6er and have to keep a 4-9 point ticket. (the penalty of just one ticket was no penalty.) ommie and I did a set of games study that first year on best strategies, and the absolute need to change that penalty. Which is how it became 2 tix.
FUN tournament discussion centers on for some it is fun to live on edge with rule breaking and what you can get away with.

It was in game 5, no5er/6er
I use the rules we can find in tickipedia, and I now realize I didn't paly correctly: in my silly mind, I transformed "THE VERY NEXT TURN" into "THE VERY LAST TURN". So basically, I played the 6, then continued to play (going to most of possible cities to find tickets: 1 to Van, 1 to Port, 3 to Calg), then when I (or Karin?) pushed the last turn, I draw (I found +LA-Chi that was already on my route before I played the 6er, and -Chi-NO, so my way of playing didn't change the results, it would have been even better for me in that case to follow the rules, doing more points, or reaching NO).
So technically, I didn't follow the rules. So the win goes to Karin (or if she prefer, no problem to play it again).
And basically, to be honnest, I don't remember issues with the penalties last year, except when you forgot to state "PENALTY" especially in the 8+ version (btw, Karin didn't shout PENALTY in our game and didn't mention I was not following the "breaking rules" rule correctly). Last year, I probably only played "fair" no5er6er without any opponent or me breaking the rule. So: camembert, Juju

toutoune vs EUT Grosser Hase : 4-1
snake: 117-105 (good center road with Van-SFe + Den-ElP, easy when the game start in the south, it is quite fast to go north without risk of block and take the 6er in North at the end)
5+: 124-141 (2 tickets in west at begining, but then 3 tickets, rather east, so I took my 5 tickets in 3 draws, and at the end of the game, I draw again 3 turn to find the big Sea-NY I had on my road)
8+ no more: 124-96
Draw open: 127-103
no5er/6er: a good combo for this version: Den-Pit + NY-Dal + Den-ElP. I started quickly with 4 blue/4pink, and I killed Grosser Hase with 4 green + 4 Cal-Hel. (-13 for Van-SFe)
No one penalty in this fair game. Thx!
(and missing result in my group, yesterday, EUT Grosser Hase won 4-1 vs Karin1961) We wait for Tyrana for the next games (and TD decision for the issue in my game vs Karin)

JenAck vs Sysy = 0.5 - 4.5
1) Snake = 103 - 105 Phoe x 2 vs Oak - kc. Start for me !
2) 5tix = 130 - 149 42 & east vs Cal Phoe Port phoe den paso ssm oak and win hou. Longest helped me !
3) 8+ nono = 57 - 112
Dul Paso chi no vs Cal Phoe SSm oak (again..!)
4) open = 122-122 I picked my last card blind by mistake... Lucky she didn't see it !
5) No5/no6 = 85-131 La chi - Sf Atl, vs Mon No/Tor Mia/Dallas Ny
I bothered her with 4 pink and blue, got longest, made my tix, took 6 red to trigger last round faster, and found 2 tix. Perfect game!
Thx Jasmin for the game... Got definitely luckier there.

Sysy - Knock : 3 - 2
Snake = 119 - 94. He had the start but tix way better for me. (Win hous - Dul Paso vs Chi Fé Ssm Oak)
5tix = 192 - 60. La Mia Mon Atl La chi dul hou DUl paso for me.
Awesome colours in the south, he's slow. I took tix for fun last round and found the 3 i had on my track (Mon No Chi No Tor Mia).
8+nono= 94-103. Chi No Den Paso vs Van fé win hou dul paso (+Port Phoe). I have good colours, longest but my tix are too small. He drew thinking of La CHi or La Mia for mia but i know it's not enough... Grats!
Draw open : 123 - 112. La Ny Bos mia vs West. I think he has la mia after 3 to phoe and to no, so i kill Mia with 6 red and 5 blue after my black. But he also thinks i have la mia so he bothers me with small tracks. I don't give and he didn't lay 4 pinks to kill me... Happy with my game!
No 5-no 6 : 129-91 Sf Atl Tor mi(discarded van fé) vs la chi ssm oak dul paso.
I felt like i was in deep shit. Took pink and blue, connected to LA via 5 orange. Missed the penalty warning from knock asw he thought too long (he even took time to fold bed sheets with his wife), so i took it the 2nd turn. Then Festival of penalties. I have good stuff (Port Nash Sea la). I end faster, but picked 1 ticket instead of 2 at the end (well, wouldn't have changed anything since I won easily).
For having missed 2 penalties, we therefore decided I had game lost.
Thx Knock!
