Out of Print!

Very disappointed that a large amount of the M44 expansions are no longer available..Was planning on purchasing the Overlord expansion, Campaign Book vol.1 plus Hedgerow Hell and Tigers in the Snow and find out they are no longer in print.
I see some of the items on online like the Air Pack for $200 come on!
Is it worthwhile to go ahead and purchase the Breakthrough expansion and the other two battlemaps or did I need the other expansions to play?

I don't think that expansions like the battle maps were ever expected to have a re-print so you might be out of luck with those ones. The Air Pack became too expensive to reprint because of material costs and such, so if you can find a cheaper copy than $200 you might want to get it...if you're wanting it. I'm not sure if the Operation Overlord and CB#1 will be reprinted but I think I heard there weren't plans for that. Hopefully some day there is enough interest that they reprint these.

Yes! It is most definitely worth getting those expansions. I love Breakthrough battles and I think you will too, because you get into the battle a little more since it's so much deeper. There's plenty of maneuvering around and great long battles to be had!! The battlemaps are good if you like Overlord or want the goodies that come with them. In the end though, I think it's worth getting all three of them!!

I have an extra set of Airpack cards that I would be willing to sell if someone would like to make an offer, but unfortunately the minis are unavailable. I imagine folks could use some other models like Axis and Allies for the aircraft.

Over the past 6 months, I have been able to get all my out-of-print missing extensions at reasonnable price.
Looking for the rare half-tracks and trucks miniatures ? See here for example:
http://www.lautapelit.fi/tuotehaku.asp?sua=1&lang=3& reid=1&nav=40020067
Up in Finland, that's where I got my Battle Maps. They even still have the campaign bag.
Good luck.

It is not just some sellers that are a problem. All it takes are 2 bidders who get carried away to drive the bid of an item through the roof. Then, some people use that inflated (read out of whack) price to set the "value" of a given item.
E-bay can be a wonderful thing, but also not so great sometimes.
This often happens at the retail level too -- I recently saw an Air Pack in an out of town store but the retail price was $55 - a full $15 over retail - I was tempeted to pick it up, but passed on it. I do not know if the store owner knew it was out of print and jacked up the price on this item or if he just wanted to gouge one of his customers to begin with (I image that item has sat on his shelf for a while).

I wouldn't blame the store for that. The sole U.S. distributor for Days of Wonder is Alliance, and they don't provide a "retail price" for any Memoir product except the Base set. They sell it to stores at a net price (I think the Air Pack cost stores $26.40) and they have to set a price based on that - $50.00 would be more of a normal markup, but $55.00 isn't too far off.

I doubt that will help many people, but just in case:
Air Estonia
However - it would perhaps be helpful if people posted links to the local game shops that still have stuff left - I know my local game store Fantask had many of the sold out items until recently (but they seem to be out of them now...)
There are often obscure little shops in strange corners of the world that have stuff lying on the shelf - and it might be possible to get them to ship it abroad.

As I read this I am thankful that the voices in my head said to buy two of everything. I did not get two of the Battlemaps, campaign bag or campaign books but otherwise listened blindly to the voices in my head.

I've learned the hard way, missing out on the Hedgerow Hell battle map, but basically it is best to buy the newest expansion(s) as soon as possible with a game as popular as Memoir is. Better be safe than sorry

Whew! You and me both! M44 is one for the ages, a definate keeper.
I actually bought the game when it first came out, then ditched it for a few years. Those "voices" in my head said to get back into the game only just about 3 years ago, and I went and bought everything available, including doubles of the figure sets, base game and such. I didn't double up on the air pack, but as long as you have the cards, you can use proxies for the game pieces. Off the top of my head, Axis & Allies Miniatures makes all the same aircraft, minus the Storch I believe, with a game piece base that would work just fine for M44, IMHO.

As was said, there is still chance to get ALL expansions. It just take lot of time to find them. I found Air Pack few months ago at some little belgian shop and ordered it online. Best thing is that it was little bit cheaper then usual. Try look to other countries - not just english speaking. In Czech republic there are still shops with battle maps etc.
And try look at boardgamegeek.com. I found the link to belgian shop there.

Yes, believe it or not, there are game stores here and there that do not have web sites or that do not have their inventory for sale online. I have found out of print games by seeking out these types of stores. But its more time consuming.

Thanks for all the tips guys!
Sam directed me to a store in the UK and I picked up the Overlord expansion also I just won an eBay auction for Hedgerow Hell..
I found Tigers in the Snow on eBay but the seller wanted $95 and that is just way out of my budget.
Will try looking at more stores in other countries.

I understand your disappointment about not being able to find some of the expansions for the game, but this by no means concerns a large amount.
For the record, the ONLY expansions currently Out of Stock that we have no plan to bring back into print in their current form for the game are:
- The Air pack (too expensive to reprint as is)
- The first two Battle Maps (Hedgerow Hell and Tigers in the Snow)
- The Campaign Book volume 1
And of course, we have more big things planned for the future.
|
Why? Why? Why?
Pardon me for my random outburst (and rudeness)(?), Eric (thank you for what you do anyway), but this disappoints me too. I had hoped to get my hands on CB# 1, but it is out of print. I would think that it would be a mass seller even if you sold it for $50. I would gladly hand over my cash (reasonably speaking) for it.
I have looked over Ebay, but I know that the prices for the book will just massively inflate by the time I get there again.
My other question for you then, Eric, is this: will you eventually de-classify the scenarios so that us less fortunate people can play the scenarios too? Thanks.
Oh, and before I forget (and that I can't figure out how to do multiple quotes in a post), I did a project on Estonia 4 years ago! I would like to see how many people bombard the country looking for these expansions!
Thanks for listening (well, reading really) to my rant I hope to see the campaign book back in stock soon!
Thanks!

Air Pack - Air rules aren't that great, but the Classified scenarios show what scenarios could look like with terrain pack tiles (roads) added. (There should be a lot more scenarios in TP). I also use the reference cards a lot more than the rest.
Overlord Expansion - doesn't come with scenarios (I'm told), and even the overlord cards aren't perfect. I understand they don't have "limit one" written on them so you may have to tell your opponent that he can't play two cards to the same general when one is Recon in Force, for example.
Overlord battle maps - those should be in one big super Overlord pack: cards, figures, winter/desert board, battle maps, reference cards. But if Air Pack costs too much to print, then so should this idea.
Breakthrough - Breakthrough games aren't much fun without the Breakthrough cards which come with Winter Wars. Best to get both together, or Breakthrough last (after winter, etc.)
