ipad+iphone cant play on line together

hello everyone,
I owned the ipad version of TTR and my friend has the iphone version, we tried for hours to game center the other night but it seems that the two versions are not compatible for online gaming.
I see she has the pocket to ride version and it ask me to buy that version even knowing that I have an Ipad and already own a more expensive version, yes, my friend with Pocket TTR did the latest upgrade but it didn t change a thing. This is a big flow and it should be fixed immediately to avoid bad publicity.does anyone experienced the same and is there a fix?

Try conecting the devices locally, through wifi or bluetooth connection, using the 'local' button after tapping 'play'. Haven't tried it but should be faster too.

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately my friends lives in another country, so that is not a possibility.
anybody else can tell me what to do?
