French campaign no BEF Mon, 27 February 2012 00:22
I am thinking about running the official France campaign for my mates. I was a bit disappointed to see that the BEF don't feature in any of the scenarios in the campaign. I saw that there is an official scenario that features the BEF in the Breakthrough expansion. I was thinking of adding this to the end of the campaign before the Dunkrik scenario as a +1 Victory point scenario just to bring the BEF into the campaign. Thoughts?

Yea I would have thought that a BEF counter attack at Arras would have been made / inculeded in the campaign since it was the attack that posed one of the biggest threats to the germans race towards the channel, and it also highlighed the fears of the German high command and Hitler of a flanking attack that would cut off their armoured spearheads, that afterwards caused a short hault that slowed down the adavnce.

I don't see the harm of playing it in there, just as long as you don't change other scenarios due to one side victory (eg adding or removing units from the next scenario)

Thanks for your thoughts Aussie_Digger.

Good point about not changing other scenarios due to one side victory, I think I will give this a go when we play it.

BTW...nice to see that there are other Aussie M44 players out there! Wink

Sorry for late reply. I am from Melbourne. I too have a group of 8 or so friends who get together once or twice a year for big Memoir 44 gaming sessions. Campaigns are what we are into at the moment. We have a boy weekend away planned next month where we plan to play the French campaign as well as a winter war and norwegian campaign that I have written myself. Can't wait! Smile

Nice I make my way down to Melbourne at least once a year. Heading there Start of may (to see a band play).

Norwegian campaign sounds interesting. At the moment my studies (im bit of an amature historian) are focused on the winter war of 1939 so i would really like to design a campaign around this (but looking at doing it a little diffent than how the campaigns have been done before)

Cool.

Yes I'm looking forward to running my Norwegian campaign.

My Winter War Campaign is indeed set during the 1939-40 Finnish/Soviet war. We are actually a third of the way through playing it, and plan to finish it off next month.

I plan to post both these campaign on my user page when i finish them and get some time to do it!

There's an official Arras scenario in Campaign Book 2, Operation Frankforce. You could draft that into your France 1940 campaign if you like Smile

Bear in mind the balance of the campaign may be upset? But this is no problem if you play the campaign twice from both sides! Cool
