Bring a bottle of Grappa to Duisburg and block SEA-CAL and VAN-CAL in 1 move, you won't have a problem....

Dunno how to do that, perhaps ask DEA, but it works...

Re:SPWC 2012 - Round 3 Schedule Wed, 25 April 2012 23:11
dea vs Sysy :
3 vs 4

1st game : La Mia La Chi vs Cal Phoe SSM Nash (My start )
116 vs 106
I have to procrastinate before making any move, having 4 black, 4 green, 2 red and 2 locos in 42 cards.
Looks pretty bad, but I open 6 black after her 6orange, then her 5 white.
I play 4 pink and 4 blue, she 6 black on grey and 6 yellow.
I find 2 green open...Without blue left, I need 4 pink to mia. I try to make myself flexible and save time laying orange to pitt.
Then I need 2 to santafe and paso. In the meantime, she plays 4 green and 2 ssm tor.

I lay 2 to no, she answers 6 red (with a 'really ?'). I lay my green, then 4 pink, fairly flexible. She needs a loco open that gurantees me longest. She has a tick dead = whew.

Big tickets saved me here

2nd game :Win Hou Ny Atl vs Cal Phoe SSM Oak (her start)
71 vs 117

I'm offensive, needed with a ticket dead from move 1 against the start, with 6 orange... She answers with them on grey, after my 6 white. I lock 4 blue. I'm already out of locos.
She plays 6 black, me 6 green, worried of a diguised Mia. Her 4 pink and 5 yellow... I'm dead. She completes nicely, patient with her Calgary Ticket.
WP by her.

3rd game : La ny La Chi vs Sea La Hel la ? (west combo) (my start)
115 vs 109

I lay 6 black fairly early, she 6 yellow and 6 blue.
I try to complete my hand as well as possible with my 2 locos.
I make chi-ny safe, then stay flexible with what I have, laying 6 orange. She goes 3 to LA via SF, I lock Phoe, to limit longest and to offer me more flexibilty.
She takes 6 grey then 5 green Port SF. I lay 3 pink, to make her slower, good, it's on my way. Then her 6 white, I lay 4 to Hel Cal to make my longest safe after my 3 red Chi Dul.
I laid 2 to Santa Fe at some point earlier.
Despite her track points, my big tickets and longest are enough.
Happy with my play here.

4th game : Win Lr Dul Paso vs Sea La Cal Phoe Den Paso (her start)
78 vs 123

She starts 6 yellow vs my 6 orange.
My colours are fairly bad, her 4 green just kills any hope to design anything good.
I gamble then with 6 yellow on grey, only colour playable.
Then I try to complete my hand decently, but in the meantime, 6 blue, 5 white, 6 black are already gone.
Ugly game for/by me...
Grats

5th game : Sea La Van Fr vs Dul Hou Dul Paso (my start)
112 vs 117
She's offensive on orange, green and 5 white then 6 grey.
I get black and yellow.
She plays 5 red 4 pink 6 grey. I complete my hadn, with 3 to sf 6 blue 6 white.
I'm too passive on the track she leaves open, I pay it cash. I can't get longest once she found a matching colour in the last move.

Too passive = never good for me. Well played by her.

6th game : Van Fe Ny Atl vs Sea Ny SSM Nash (her start)
60 vs 59

Down 3-2, bad combo against the start. I go on board first with orange, that she lays on grey (again !), then white for me. She picks blue, blue is locked ( you said : "again?").
She goes 6 yellow then 5 red.

Looking pretty bad, I gamble on van mon, laying 3 mon tor.
She plays 3 blue Mon NY. 42? I'm persuaded she has Van Mon since she doesn't block me either.

I lay 2 to Ny, then her 5 black. 2 then 3 to ssm by me to kill some flexibily and finally 4 black.
She plays 6 pink and 4 white.

Then long thinking time after she picked a loco. Big track ? Longest ? Enough cards to complete to Ny ?
I sneak to raleigh, on my way to Atl = making a ticket completed trickier for her, on my longest, and good for Ny Atl. But she goes for longest, that happened to be mine.

Surprise there : win by 1... Epic...

7th game : Sea La Cal Phoe vs Sea Ny Port Phoe (my start)
121 vs 93

Tix, colours, track points, start, dynamic after game 6 and longest on my side. Boring end after good previous games.
Nothing to do for her after my 6 yellow 5 white unfortunately.

Obviously happy with my win. Need to be a bit more consistant if I wanna go further than the 1/4 finals.

AMD party next round with Vball against Sysy ! Still 3 of us in the race Smile ! Sorry to WhiteTrain and dea for spoiling your rendez-vous, but Brad's Bracket was stronger ( Yes, he guessed the 1/4 final outcome here Shocked )

Hi,

Although the rules state that "The TDs will not post any threads explaining their decisions", we don't know why TDs cannot explain their decisions.
Perhaps some circumstances warrant no explanation, but we feel this one and other notes were fine. The following decision was discussed and labored over by the TDs.

Official ruling concerning the match thekid vs TRUE Miguel in SPWC :

*Considering that both players found only a 1-hour time slot to play their games;

*Considering that Miguel was up 3-1 after the first 4 games;

*Considering that both players could not find an agreement for the remaining games although both players offered their opponent valid times;

*Considering that thekid didn't offer a clear and firm schedule before Apr. 22nd, 5 days after Miguel's first offer;

*Considering that thekid didn't offer valid times to his opponent before Apr. 23;

The final result will therefore stands as 3-1. Miguel advances then to the quarter final and is allowed to schedule with Will.

Onyx Puffin and Sysyphus

We, TDs, remind the players that :

*In case of disagreement, we first look at the quality of the communication (clear, firm, regular) and at the validity of the times offered according to the rules. Clear offers from day 1 remains the best way to find an agreement with your opponent.

*Showing up in the lobby at the times offered by your opponent, prior to any final agreement between both players, is not a way to proceed.

*A busy private life is not an argument that will prevail in our decisions. We assume that every player has a private life...

*The resort to "may", "might" and "should" leads to nothing, and prevents the opponent from scheduling with you.

We are dumbfounded by the number of players who are not able to take their responsability before/when scheduling with their opponent.

*When a player is on your ignore list, it should be up to you to establish the contact between you and your opponent, not up to the TDs.
Yes, Wasser, that's you.

*The TDs should not have to establish the communication in the name of an other player because the opponent would not answer any PM.
Yes Goscha, that's you. A word to the TDs about your current situation would have been most welcomed.
And yes, Wasser, that's you again.

As side-notes :
Schwen and Maf had to reschedule beyond deadline, within 24 hours after their second missed appointment, under risk of exclusion of SPWC.

We granted Patterson extra-time to schedule EMC with Marshall Vorwarts in a reasonable time beyond deadline due to holidays.
Asking for it day 1 of Round 3 surely weighed in our decision.

Thanks everybody and good luck with the remaining matches.

Hi,

We, TDs, are issuing a warning to thekid for having posted and commented about our ruling over MV and Patterson's games.
Further posts in the forum from thekid will result in his exclusion from EMC and SMC.

Games have been played today, tourney can move forward.
MV is allowed to schedule with thekid for round 4, which ends May 3rd.

Thanks.

Re:SPWC - QF Schedule Wed, 02 May 2012 00:14
daedin vs Angel

4:5

Interesting game, I feel quite lucky and not too plaesed with myself Wink

1st game I had start with LA-Mia + Tor-Mia. I got ok colors and locos and connected a fine route - alas, not good enough vs THE 42 Twisted Evil - 0:1

2nd game I had LA-Chi + Winni-Little, not good for longest. I got 2 locos and had to take open colors very early (at least I thought that I had to Wink ). Jordi had a big south and a western ticket. I got 6 black but he got 6 orange. I got very good points on the board (6 white, 6 grey, direct connection via Hel-Den-Okl), but I had to connect with 4 pink, 4 blue and 2 grey (to Little), so Jordi got longest and the time for a 17 points ticket draw. This was too much Evil or Very Mad

3rd game was quite an easy win with Van-Mon Smile

Until there I felt that I had played well but was not very lucky Confused

4th game I thought I had won all the time (Van-Santa + ?forgot it), but in the end Jordi managed top track points, 2 tickets (5+4) AND longest - I feel I could have won this, but I don't know how *grr* Sad

5th game was start with Mon-Atl + Tor-Mia (I think). I did everything right but failed to play Cal-Hel in the right moment and Jordi played it immediately without hesitation. Don't know who had won if I'd played it well Crying or Very Sad

Game 6-9 were very easy for me to play. Always good tickets and no too difficult problems. Maybe Jordi should have won #8 with start and Den-ElP + Dul-Elp vs my Cal-SLC + LA-Hel (or was it Sea-LA?). Don't know if he had problems with colors but his route wasn't very good.

Thx for games, always a pleasure! Smile

Re:SPWC - QF Schedule Wed, 02 May 2012 08:58
Vballman20 vs Sysy :
4 vs 5

I was inspired by Angel earlier. Down 4-1 like him, but against the start game 9 Razz !

1st game : Van Fe Kc Hou vs Cal Slc Cal Phoe (His start )
95 vs 96
2 locos for me, not ideal.
I lay 6 yellow and black, he tries to mess me up in the middle. I'm way too passive not killing phoenix.
I have longest but I know it's enough with Kc Hou dead. He draws though,-8 for him but still wins by one.
Clear reflection of what's gonna happen later, tensed and close !

2nd game :La Chi La Ny vs Sea Ny Den Paso (my start)
125 vs 98

I designed a solid longest 6 black orange pink, 4 green, 4 red 5 yellow, 4 white to chi and chi ny.
Thought he had sea ny - van fe. He draws, finds nothing. With a 16 point margin, only one combo can kill me (Port Nash, La Mia, SF Atl), i draw too, to prevent a Van Mon fiend, and find nothing either.
I feel better.

3rd game :Van Mon Mon NO vs Win Hou Dul Hou (his start)
103 vs 122

No white, I start with 6 orange, 6 yellow, he answers 6 green and black.
I quickly dropped Mon no but cant design a longest because I played bad and he played way better. Could have disturbed him on 4 pink or 5 red, but bad instincts, too passive, I hate myself. Evil or Very Mad

WP by him.

4th game : La chi Chi fe vs Van Mon Cal Phoe (my start)
113 vs 134

I dont play 6 orange, then I cant really disturb him.
Was either black or orange, cant see a loco to help me being offensive like i like. He's hot, plays well, breaks my start, he's up 3-1, looks bad.

5th game : Van Mon Chi fe vs Port phoe Hel la Dul Paso (his start)
110 vs 122

Finally some locos, i wait to have a couple more white, but he takes 6 orange.
Again I'm too passive here, knowing his has 3 tix.
He's still hot, and he's still playing well. I still play bad, and still hate myself. 4-1

6th game : La Chi Dul Hou vs Van Fe-La Mia (my start)
105 vs 84

Game 6, epic recovery by me, like previous match against dea... I needed a miracle and a good opportunity to kill something to put me back on track.

He's got 6 black 5 white. Looks REALLY bad. I lay 6 green 4 pink 6 orange. In the meantime, He takes 6 yellow 4 green.

I take La Phoe, I think he;s trying to block me but he's just completing Van Fe. I get out of Phoenix painfully, and so he doeswith 3 blue. Good, I saved my red and 3 locos. After he connected to LR, he decided to go with 6 red, but I am waiting for him.. La Mia dead. I connect my ticket with my 5 red left.

Pfiou...Spectators were already closing my coffin.

7th game : Mon No Tor Mia SSM NAs vs Van Fe Win Lr (hi start)
135 vs 98

2-4,his start. 3 solid east ticket.
We are both waiting for the opponent's move.
I can only play orange on grey, I wait for him to lay his orange first... Pb : he goes to 44 cards... I have to play. So, I open with 6 white, saving my orange for grey or orange... Nailed it, but can't know yet ! He designs his Van Fe, I play very well with awesome colors in the east. When he connects 4 to Winnipeg, I feel like I had the right hunch at the right moment.

Confidence is boosted and now on my side. I'm finally playing at my level !

8th game : Port Phoe Den Paso vs La chi chi no (my start)
121 vs 108

Again, my opening moves, 6 black/5 white, are decisive..

He struggles to connect La - Chi - No, I complete my colors nicely and take 6 orange, yellow, blue and Pink.
Good thrill when he finds 2 tickets after having connected Mia.
But 2 to duluth from him relaxes me a bit ! Yeehaw !

9th game : La Ny Van Fe vs Cal Phoe La mia (his start)
125 vs 108

Colors look super bad, I play most of my locos on black. He waited too long...Nailed it again, he lays 3 La phoe then 3 to SF !
Though my hand still sucks. He goes to Calgary, then lay 4 red to dallas. I discarded Win Lr, might be Win Hou, I lay 1 to Dallas. He goes to Lr, I think of SF atl, I lay 4 yellow to Atl.

He goes to NO, I kill Hou, quite desperate. Not the best move either whn I think of it.
Then I'm shocked when he lays 6 locos to Mia. Again I'm 6 feet under, already washing my face before going to bed... Ommie has Kleenexes ready...

On the board, I have Chi Fe connected, 6 black, 6 green, 2 to No and 4 yellow + 1 dallas hou. I connect to Ny. He's slow to end with 5 blue, 1 to Nash.
I go for fiending, 9 to find : Dallas Ny / Ny Atl. I got moves enough to lay track points. Before his last move, I'm one point ahead. I saw Sf Atl, he has 3 to find.

Puh, nothing. Again, I come back from the world of the living-deads with a good help from my luck.

Overall, he played better game 1 to 5. And I played really bad, game 3 and 4.
I did super well game 2, 7 and 8. Saved by his combo in game 6, but lucid enough to kill his stuff. I flipped the coin on the right side game 9... And again, revenge for Ommie Smile

1am, sorry for the quality of my English.... After 9 games and 1h30 of play, I have excuses ! But still fresh enough for a good report without notes Razz

Thx Brad, that was an awesome fight with a cruel ending..
Not sure I can pass next round if i keep playing like that in the first games...

Yesterday, I forgot to congratulate Brad for his awesome tourney, kicking everybody on his way ! We're good for an awesome NC Smile

Maybe "Horse Will" would be appropriate?

SPWC 2012 - SF Result Tue, 08 May 2012 18:58
Miguel vs Angel

0:5

3 starts for Miguel,
the first 2 games and #4 were hopeless for him,
but he almost won #4 with LA-NY + Mon-Atl vs my start and Van-Mon + Dul-Hou.
#3 was a nice win with Port-Pho + Dal-NY, no start, vs Cal-Pho + NY-Atl (I think).
#5 was also unclear with Port-Nash + SSM-Nash, no start, vs 7+8 (or so) in the West.

New Overall Ranking after this: 1820, I like it Smile
