Civil War ( US ) Game Similar To Memoir? Thu, 24 May 2012 19:33
Hi everyone. I was playing a match recently, and my opponent and I were talking about creating scenarios. I mentioned that I would love to create a couple of US Civil War scenarios - even though the pieces and graphics aren't "right"...

OK - I know - you purists are scoffing, but hold on... Infantry 0 Infantry, Tanks / Cavalry, Artillery / Cannons...

My opponent replied that there was a game - dedicated to the US Civil War , that LOOKED and PLAYED *very* much like Memoir. *Very* much is what grabbed my attention - I haven't messed around with many board games "like" Memoir since - well, forever, and I'm not sure I would enjoy anything more ~Complicated~ than Memoir ( again, for you purists, I know and agree - easy to learn, easy to manage, but complex strategy ).

Unfortunately, I closed out the game ( and chat text ) before reviewing and noting the name of the game...

Anyone?...

Battle Cry is the game that you are seeking and it was also designed by Richard Borg and is playable online at Gametable.

This is what it looks like:

... and if you want to play medieval/fantasy memoir, Battlelore is the game (but you probably knew this):

Link to a page on boardgamegeek.com that shows you all the Commands & Colors games Richard Borg has designed.

Thanks guys!

~ Commands And Colors, and ~ Richard Borg - sorry, but I wasn't familiar w/ either - Memoir is the first game of this ( or any related genre ) that I've played, unless we count Stratego...

Thanks for the info!

You've found a wonderful game, then!! And a great game system! This is my favorite board game ever and it gets more fun with each new expansion that gets released. The most recent addition was a second Campaign Book where you can link battles together! From what I've seen, Memoir '44 has the most active community (and it's a great group of people as well) and it has the most support from the company. Granted, I'm not very involved in the other Command and Colors games, but I don't think any of them have as many expansions or as much support. Smile

Have fun, and welcome again!! Cool
