Advice for terrible dice rates? Wed, 15 February 2012 21:19
Is there anything I can do, apart of chopping my hands? Laughing

I hardly can pass a 40% hit rate in each game. I know luck will swing... but when? Confused

Your low hit rate has probably more to do with what you are targeting. I am sure tht it is not just a function of the game.

If you target artillery often your hit rate will be about 16.67%
If you target armor often, your hit rate will be about 33.33%
If you target infantry often your hit rate will be approximately 50.00%

So if you have a low hit rate, my guess is that you are more often targeting units that have a lower hit rate percent instead of targeting infantry.

Let's see what others have to say.

40% hit rate isn't really that bad...but if you're trusting on luck to win you the game, you'll be disappointed a lot of the time!

Here's an example:

I have two Infantry Units that are both in Forest Hexes. Both units are down to 2 figures and it's almost the end of the game. In front of my Infantry Units is a full strength enemy Armor unit. I only need 1 medal to win and my opponent needs 2, so I move my units out of the forest...one into Close Assault on the Armor, one a few hexes away. I figure that if I'm lucky, I can destroy the Armor unit to win the game right away. I first roll 1 die for the further unit and roll a miss...then I roll 3 dice for the adjacent Infantry unit and roll two hits and a Flag.

My opponent orders his units, including the tank and in the end he's able to destroy both of my units to win the game. The main reason I lost the game is because I trusted in luck and took a risk. Although risks can sometimes win you the game (like my risk could have), more often than not, I should have played the safe game and not trusted my luck with the dice. My rule of thumb is to usually assume luck is against me and I'll have a low hit %...then I play a much more defensive game! Smile

Hello,

Yea, definitively it has to do with my tactics as well. But sometimes I feel like a real noob Confused when I see that what I've planned seems never to work because of the dice.

I know "luck" it's part of the game and at some point it should swing, but lately the chance is always in front of me, when my opponent rolls the dice.

Thanks for the tips.

You are suffering from the very human feeling of "he's better off than me" - a.k.a. "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence".
Believe me.
I've been lucky many, many times, and unlucky many, many times.
Those I often remember.

My opponents have been lucky many, many times, and I remember those very well, especially when they lead to my defeat...
But I also try to remember when my opponent is UNLUCKY, and what do you know - it's just as often!

And I always try to play as if I'm unlucky - calculating with lower than average hit rates. That way, if I fail, my strategy won't collapse due to a poor die-roll. Of course, in certain situations - especially in end-game situtions, you need to change from carefull strategist to out-and-out gambler and just go for it - or risk loosing.

Knowing when to do what is what seperates good players from great players.

I'm sure I'll learn one day Smile

I have the opposite problem. My friends tell me that if I roll 8 dice (in say, two separate attacks), I will score 5-6 hits on average. Where they say they would score 2-3 hits for the same number of attacks and dice. Sometimes they don't want to play balanced scenarios with me because of this. They like (except one) scenarios that are unbalanced and give me the side that the scenario is balanced against! But, as long as I'm playing, I don't mind. The problem is, now that I'm married, I don't play as often.

Ritual sacrifice can be an effective means to help ones dice. Another method is to have extra dice handy, when one doesn't cooperate, put it in a vice and force all the other dice to watch while you crush it in the vice. Explain to the dice watching that this is their fate if they don't take orders. Shocked

I've adopted a more defensive stance in my last games and I'm getting good results. I'm double thinking the ins & outs for each single movement, etc.

Let's see if I can draw a conclusion of my new defensive stance.

Thanks to all

I know how most of you feel. I play against my son-in-law and i have about a 30% win rate. Of course, when we play anything else he always wins too. I guess i'm being taught to be a gracious loser. O Well, at least i get to play

Go for the Infantry and finish off an unit before attacking a new one, even if it means throwing 3 or 4 dice to an unit reduced to one fig, when you have a 2 or 3-strong figs unit whithin range and you feel like wasting dice on the single man: it is not wasting dice ! It is removing an unit that can still fire full dice !
