Personally, I prefer the "colorless" plastic, as I will likely be painting mine.
This probably matches the color of figures already released with the battle map series, and included in half portions in this package.
Since these are non-essential pieces, most likely those that will purchase them are the obsessed like me, and a great majority will be painting them anyway. I bet this figured into DOW's decision.

We can always hope they aren't all that white/grey colour. After all no official word from DoW on that.

I kind of like the grey plastic for the Finish Ski Troops...but I could see why people would want different colors for the French and Italian figures. What color would work for them? I think a quick coat of paint would be easy to add.

French in sky blue.
Italians in grey, darker than original but not as dark as Germans.

I can see the grey for the Italians (and unless I decide to paint a little more detail that's the color I'll probably use) but I don't think I could bring myself to use sky blue for the French!
The current colors of the figures are all so 'military-ish' that Sky Blue just doesn't seem to fit in my mind!

Yes, Dark Red and Sky Blue might be too 'crazy' for me, but to each his own!!
If I were to use one solid color, maybe I would do something like Light Green...still part of the Allied color system but unique to themselves.

Sky blue (bleue horizon) is kind of traditional colour for plastic French troops, reflecting their WWI uniform.
In WWII they had a kind olive.

Yeah. Also the British long range dessert group (LRDG) officer has a beard. And the Japanese officer at the end looks less than convincing. And that smarmy smile the guy has cracks me up, not the least that the guy looks like Ozzie Nelson from the old Ozzie and Harriet TV show.

Even though Polish Calvary, Italian Arty, Landing craft and Funnies are cool they are not used very much compared to other units. I would rather have had separate distinct pieces for each nationality like the Tank Destroyers all being German Elephants would rather have had U.S. and Russian tank destroyers, Black Waffen SS tigers and different elite troops for each nationality.
Just my opinion.

Well said
If you don't like it don't buy it
Is it perfect, no of course not
Does it give to the long time Memoir supporters almost all of their requested new bits and pieces, why yes it does.
I for one am grateful to the DOW staff (And Richard Borg) that they found time to listen and arrive at a cost effective way of producing parts that the vast bulk of Memoir supporters will be only to happy to spend their hard earned cash on.

I'll certainly be buying the equipment pack when it arrives at my local game store for the reason quoted above. I played one of the Eastern front scenarios the other day and would have loved to have had some actual Finnish ski troops instead of Germans with red badges!

Amen to that! I'm looking forward to the huge increase in figures on the board from this expansion and it will be a nice motivation to go back and play some of those scenarios that use different figures!

Does not mean that people are not allowed to have their own opinions on what they want or expect!
This is a forum for discussion and everyone has a right to exercise their opinion whether it be positive or negative.
|
This is very true, however, from what I have seen, DoW goes a bit out of there way to please their M44 fans. I'm thinking of back when the Campaign Bag was released with a paper breakthrough map... now, I wasn't around back then but from what I understand there was a large call for a hard-board breakthrough map, and DoW delivered. More recently, there has been a large call for DoW to make the Tigers and Supply Trucks available since the battle maps they first came with are now out-of-print and very hard to find. DoW has delivered on that as well. There has been a large call for a French Army, and individual minis that represent different types of units - and again, DoW has delivered.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, fine. I can appreciate the desire to have the nations in their own color, and I probably would even prefer it that way myself, but to go and start a poll where everyone can voice their displeasure, practically within 24 hours of the announcement? Seriously? It kind of reminds me of a kid I once saw who had just opened all of his toys on Christmas and was then throwing a tantrum because something was 'not quite right'.
Some of us find it irritating... that's my opinion.

Indeed, thanks Eric, Yann, Antoine, Everyone else at DoW and Richard for their hard work obviously.
Something that would be cheap and lazy ? NO expansion
As for the grey color, I guess some of you will paint them anyway
I'm eager to play the new maps (still more work from the staff) and replay the old ones with new figures !

That is the problem, the French army was NOT delivered, only the infantry. No tanks, no artillery.
And with this generic grey French infantry I can assume that there will never be a French army pack.

For those of you who do not want or like painting minis, try painting just the bases of the different army fig. It will save time and money.

Another good option could be picking a color you like and spray painting the figures to make them stand out from each other. After a little bit of washing and maybe a primer, the spray paint should work just fine!

Hi,
Why not a tank pack later:
Churchill for Britsh troops // Somua for French troops ( Stug III for german and M13/40 for Italian in option).
Why not an artillery pack later :
25 pounder (British) / 105 Howitzer (US and others allied44) / 10.5 german or 88mm instead.
Just wait for parts blisters from 6 figs as they made for Battlemaps. Price will do...

Yea, I was thinking doing that. I believe the Army Painter method may work perfect for me. Quick and clean. I'm not a handy-man myself, so I'll go for the easiest way.
And maybe I'm asking for too much, but I'd love to see a colour list/table/guide for each army/figures from senior painters so that newbies won't have to struggle with the colours. Would be nice!
|
There are a few of those around, but are you talking about painting them all one color (in which case a realistic color guide would be less useful) or are you wanting to paint some details on the figures?
