Status update for users of the Mac App Store version of Ticket to Ride Thu, 02 August 2012 23:57
Mountain Lion users
As several users recently reported, Apple's just released Mountain Lion has made it problematic to claim certain routes in Ticket to Ride. Our engineers have come up with a fix, which we are now in the process of testing on a variety of machines and OS configurations; we plan to submit this version to Apple next week, for release as soon as possible.

Legendary Asia map
We also recently released a new Ticket to Ride map - Legendary Asia - for sale on a variety of platforms (on iPad, Steam PC & Mac, and our own browser-based web version of Ticket to Ride).

This map is unfortunately not available in the Mac App store version of Ticket to Ride and we have no estimate as to when, or if, it might be, as that version of the game has simply not encountered the success we hoped it would.

If you were hoping to purchase this new Legendary Asia map to play on your Mac, we invite you to side-grade at no cost to the Steam Mac version of Ticket to Ride, where you will be able to purchase Legendary Asia as a DLC and acquire other expansions even if you run an older OS version than Mac OS X 10.7 Lion

To qualify for this free sidegrade:

If you already played at least one Online game from within your Mac App Store version of Ticket to Ride, all you need to do to receive your free upgrade is visit our Download Center http://www.daysofwonder.com/download/ and follow the instructions to retrieve your Steam key (an Activation code that will let you download the game for free).

If you owned some of the game's expansions (USA 1910, Europe or Swiss), no worry - you will also receive free Steam keys for these expansions! And if you want to play on our latest map - Legendary Asia - you will be able to purchase this new map directly from within Steam.

If you have never played any Online game of Ticket to Ride from within your Mac App Store version (i.e. you have only played SOLO or Pass-and-Play game), you will just need to follow these few extra steps to qualify for your free side-grade to the Steam Mac version of the game:
- Launch your Ticket to Ride Mac App Store version
- Go to the screen marked More... and visit the Restaurant to create or connect to your DoW Online account
- You may now either play an Online game or even simply Quit the app
- Head to your Download Center http://www.daysofwonder.com/download/ and follow the instructions to retrieve your Steam key (an Activation code that will let you download the game for free).

If you owned some of the game's expansions (USA 1910, Europe or Swiss), no worry - you will also receive free Steam keys for these expansions! And if you want to play on our latest map - Legendary Asia - you will be able to purchase this new map directly from within Steam.

We hope to see you on Steam!

The DoW Online Team

PS: If you are reluctant to play on Steam, for whatever reason, you may consider side-grading at no cost to the browser-based web version of our game instead. You will be able to purchase the new Legendary Asia Map as an add-on directly from our web site http://www.daysofwonder.com/online/play/, but will miss out on the benefits of the Steam version (full screen, richer UI, etc.).

Totally unacceptable to ignore those of us who have purchased the game AND all the available maps at the time. There are those of us who prefer the rich experience and Solo play against the computer, and making maps unavailable to us will never encourage me to ever buy any Days of Wonder games in the future.

So far not happy. I've been playing the App Store version on my laptop for about 2 weeks now and it's been rock solid. I had Steam on my desktop and just used the side-grade to Steam option and so far it's slow, unresponsive and won't let me login.

I went to the restaurant and put in my login details and got a spinner for awhile, then it came up saying my account was linked with my Steam account, great. Then I got another unresponsive screen for a bit and then taken to a page that my login and password don't match, and it had the wrong username in there (andrew instead of adacey), I retyped my details and it won't let me login. I tried my steam acount, no luck there either. I tried the forgot my password option but the steam built in browser just brings up a gray page with nothing (tried several times). So I came back to the website myself and reset my password, new one still won't work.

Okay, the login problems seem to have cleared up so I can at least play online games now. Not sure what was going on yesterday with that.

Still noticing a lot of subtle differences between the app store version and the steam version. A lot of stuff is nice to have, like the restaurant's view is much nicer, better controls on starting games (min and max players instead of just the 2-5 option, min karma, watch a game, etc).

However, I still see that it seems like the animations are slower, and the UI in general just seems less "snappy". There's other subtle annoyances, like the lack of full-screen support (whereas the app store version offers native full-screen support in Lion), the text seems a little "rougher" and the big one that's bugging me is that it seems like if I try to claim a double route I need to get the mouse over exactly the colour I want whereas the app store version was smart enough to claim the right route based on what cards I was playing.

All in all, there's some nice additional features with the Steam version but it feels like I'm playing a bad port of a PC app or running things in virtualization whereas the app store version feels like a native app.

VERY disappointed in this decision. I've supported Ticket to Ride for years, and bought it on almost every platform. But despite already owning several copies of the game, I bought the Mac App Store version as soon as it came out, because with it I could get a family license instead of buying individual licenses for all my kids.

There is no cost-effective way to play TTR with a large family, using either Steam or the browser version, because I would have to buy every map for every person in the family. This decision has left me with a VERY sour taste in my mouth.

Darius,

While it's not ideal, you could use the Steam keys we're giving you to download the Steam version on multiple Macs from the same Steam account, much like you could install the Mac App Store version on up to 5 Macs using the same Apple ID.

We know it's not what you were looking for, but this might be a solution for now.

A quick update for Mountain Lion users: A new version that fixes the route selection bug that appeared when running Ticket to Ride Mac app store version on Mountain Lion was submitted to Apple for distribution on the Mac App store this morning PST. It will become available as soon as Apple approves it.

I tried doing this but when I go to the download center, it says that there are no files to download. There are no instructions to do with Steam whatsoever.

Have you tried playing an online game using the App before heading to your download center?
If it's the case and you still don't get infos to redeem your Steam Keys, my guess is that you in fact own two DoW accounts (one which is linked to Steam and the other one that you usually use) and that the keys are not on the one you think about...
Contact us via this link and we'll try and sort the issue out:

I too am disappointed.

I have tried the sideways move to Steam but can't get it to start. It just says - Preparing to launch and disappears.

I put in a request to Steam online support but no answer.

Thanks for any suggestions.

To receive the keys, you must follow the instructions in the first post on this thread, i.e. (copied from above)

A new version fixing up the Route selection bug that existed for Mac Mountain Lion users just went live a few minutes ago. Enjoy.

Usually when that happens you'll go through the whole process and then in the end it doesn't charge you anything. If I remember right, that's an issue with the App store more than the DoW game.

Click again on "Buy" for all maps you already purchased: you will be asked first for confirmation. Then you will be told you already purchased the map and the new download will be free.

I purchased the old downloadable version plus the Swiss map back in the day and then bought the Mac App store version with all of the additional maps. I went to try and get steam download keys, but I'm only seeing keys for the main game and the Swiss map (my non-App Store purchases). I'd really like to be able to use all of the maps I've bought in Steam. Any thoughts on how I might be able to get keys for the Europe and 1910 expansions I bought on the Mac App Store?

Make sure to play an online game from your Mac version, this should unlock Steam keys for your other expansions

Having issues claiming routes with Snow Leopard as well. Several times with one particular route and sometimes can't put anything down at all.

Were people who purchased the game twice (once for the web/downloadable version, and once for the Mac App Store version) supposed to receive one set of Steam side-grade keys, or two?

Eric,

I have tried to do as you suggested, but Steam won't allow me to be logged in on more than one computer at a time (unlike the app store) am I doing something wrong? I want to be able to play with my kids, do I have to buy additional steam accounts?

Yes, since Steam won't let you connect on more than one computer with a single Steam account, you will need several accounts and each of them will have to own Legendary Asia to play together.

I'm still really disappointed by the way this was handled, and the (ongoing) lack of communication. It's colored my whole perception of Days of Wonder, a company that I used to regularly buy every game from.

Harperrg_mac: I don't know if you're still around, but here's the answer to your question:

1) Use your Mac App Store purchase to log onto multiple *different* Days of Wonder accounts (one for each of your kids)
2) Start a game with each of your downloaded maps (for each child)
3) Create a Steam account for each child.
4) Log into each child's Days of Wonder account at this website, and look for the "Go to your Download Center" link.
5) You will see a bunch of Steam activation codes (one for the main product and each piece of DLC). Follow the instructions given to activate *each* of those keys. Repeat this for each child.
6) Log into Steam (again, for each child) and start a game.
7) At this point, you will now have *two* Days of Wonder accounts (per child): your original one, and a new Days of Wonder account with the same name as your Steam account. You can either ditch your old Days of Wonder account, or go through another step to merge the accounts. The merge gave me all sorts of problems, so rather than write directions, I'll just suggest you contact customer support.

So -- to answer your question (if you're even still here): You can do what you requested, but it's a big pain.

Steam is a pain on my mac. Was before the new machine, still is now I've got a new machine.

Which is why I hardly play on the Steam version - when I want to play on the laptop, it's usually where I can't get connection, and want to play solo - and steam's a pain about it. Much nicer on the tablet experience wise...

Except I didn't. I only received a Steam key for the USA 1910 expansion. I did not receive Steam keys for my Europe and Swiss expansion purchases. The game is wanting to charge $4.99 for these. Surely that's a mistake. How do I get these keys?
