Classified scenarios - possibility to "buy" from DOW
|

Greetings All,
I'm not over keen to buy the Equipment Expansion Pack, however I would like the "offcial scenarios".
I was wondering what the response would be like from players to be able to "buy" the scenarios from DOW.
Also is it possible/feasible for DOW to make them avaialable on a "pay and download basis"?
I'm not sure what a economically viable cost would be for DOW to supply, or for the community to be happy to pay.
Any comments/ideas on this one?

Sure, DoW will sell you their official scenarios.
For the same price of the Equipment Pack they'l sell you the equipment pack scenarios and then, just to show what great people they are, they'l throw in a free equipment pack.
The official scenarios are classified to promote the sale of the expansions.
I'd be surprised if DoW were to make them available separately.

I wouldn't be.
Actually it would be profitable for DoW, especially as some online players will soon start begging for certain classified scenarios to be made available for MM'44 Online. Unless someone starts uploading them on SFTF...
It would also solve remote players' shipping fee issues...

It is actually the same thing. You'd would see the scenario available in the Official Scenarios section, it'd appear on the list of playable battles in MM'44 Online and you can still open it as a .pdf, so you could print it (but not download it).
As a matter of fact, I can make photos of the whole CB1 and send it over to anybody and no one would interfere, right? So I guess .pdf files aren't the only which have this issue.

True, you could take pictures of the book or scan the book and send it to your friends without anyone knowing about it...by why would DoW make it even easier for you to hand out free copies of their hard work?
I just don't see that making sense for them. If you want the scenarios, I expect that DoW will continue to want you (or a friend) to actually buy the expansion.
Now M44 Online is a different matter. I hope that we'll eventually see all of the official scenarios online so people can play them without needing their own copy...but that's different because you're already paying to get access to the battles. I look forward to someday seeing Tigers and Half-Tracks in the online version!!

One interesting aspect in this is you can go download any of the army packs rules, like the East Front, and have immediate access to those scenarios. Granted, the draw there is that you are going to want to get the armies needed to play those scenarios. I am in the unique position where I am converting the game system to miniatures so I could convert the British battle pack at any point. That being said, if and when I get around to wanting to do that theater I will buy the pack because I believe that if you support the company they can continue to add products.
In a way, there are times I wish I could get some of the scenarios. I own a significant amount of Memoir products but I am still missing a few. Given that I am in the process of converting the system to my big soldiers my Memoir system gets really expensive! I have Winter Wars and have the Breakthrough card deck, but I don't have the Breakthrough boards and the scenarios that come with it. I would love the scenarios but at the moment I just haven't purchased it because I invested the time in upsizing two sets of boards. I realize that I am probably the only one doing this but it would be great to get those scenarios. I am sure one day I will break down and do it, but for now I can't swing it.
Sigh.

Well, I have all the expansions, some times more than once, and I have way too many scenarios to play. Frankly, I will never be able to play all the available scenarios. Its even more daunting when you consider the number of scenarios from SFTF; many of these are very good. Impossible for me!
So, really, its hard for me to sympathize with folks that don't have all the official scenarios, given there is so much available, official or not (but I understand the completist's urge to have it all). However, I don't care either way what DOW does about classified scenarios. I just want them to stay in business for a long time to come, so I hope they continue to make prudent decisions.

Thank you every body who contributed.
I have all the expansions,CB 1 & CB 2, so there are still many a fine hour of gamming to come.
Ax I mentione in my intial post, I'm not that hooked to have the equipment pack (shipping costs are also a consideration to South Africa.) The breakthrough sceanarios are tempting though, as this is my favorite format to play.
I'll see how long I can resist the temptation.

Well, I can understand that. Breakthrough is my favorite and there aren't all that many scenarios. Operation Epsom from the Equipment Pack was a lot of fun, but uses a lot of different "new" figures.

Storm, mind confirming you needed 2 x TP expansions to set up the scenario?

Yes you need two terrain packs for operation epsom to have enough roads.
But the rules say that if you don't own two, you could use desert roads (you need the med theatre anyway for the figs). I did that. It looks ugly, but it is functional.

Yeah, I added some Med Theatre roads, "forests", and towns at the Allied end to try and make it look better. Doesn't look great, but the scenario is very good. My son and I have played it several times.
We also spiced it up by making the Truck and Half Track units 3 figures each (as we have the original issue of these figures from the battle maps). We also play that bridges do not hinder bonus road movement.

OK, thanks guys.
Is it the first BT needing 2 of an expansion to set up the scenario?
