BULLETIN:
Allied-in-Chief, Mediterranean Theater
For your eyes only.
General Jeronimon,
Intelligence reports that the next couple of scenarios the Axis have LESS than 10% chance to win! We have broken their Enigma codes!!
Sincerely,
OSS officer
Unfortunately, that is not the case. In fact, all 12 scenarios are already completed(ask JayKay,he got a sneak peak at one of the Sicilian scenarios a couple of days ago). To tell you the truth, there are many that have already been online where the win % for the Allies is less than 50%. We will have to play extremely well to thwart the Axis onslought in many future scenarios. Hopefully, Lucky and VanVoort can pull out a couple of wins to keep us from falling too far behind.

Van Voort managed to save our honour and take the only allied victory this round. I am really glad I made him our two pointman! Scones for all his units!
By my count the score is now 6-8 Allies-Axis, so no permanent harm done yet. But gentlemen, we cannot allow ourselves to be bullied this way by those Axis &@¤#%. Let's get them the next round.
So for round three: I can't brief you yet, but I can tell you who will be our two point man in the next round: it's the fabricator of this tournament and the genius who thinks up all those scenarios which make your head hurt. You all know who I mean but will you put your hands together for the one, the only: LooneyLlama!
Defend our honour and points Eric!

The score after 2 rounds as Jeronimon has stated is 8-6 Axis.
General Jeronimon,
I will do my best to uphold the confidence you have in me to bring home victory! The troops have trained extremely hard and are itching to avenge their defeats. GO ALLIES!!
Okay, now that the 2nd round has been completed it's on to round 3. The battle I have chosen is not new. Some of you have already played it in our previous tournament. Two of the reasons I have selected it, is the favorable reviews, and it has been an even 50-50 split in victories.
The battle is 'Night Attack at El Alamein'. Note that I have recognized both New Zealand and Australia for their contributions in this battle. However, there is only one special force armor unit for the Allies. It is marked with 4 figures and the English special forces badge. Also, there will be only one more North African battle after this one. Then it's on to Sicily.
Eric
P.S. Damien, you now select your 2 point player AND the matchups.

No problem and thank you for an enjoyable match!
Scenario review: I have played it 9 times now 4 as Allies and 5 as Axis. AS Allies I have won them all as Axis only 2 out of 5.
Terrain
Sdnative stated, and I tend to agree, that the terrain favors the British. He suggested that some terrain hampering the Germans (especially the tanks) might be removed. The LooneyLlama way would be to hamper the British more with terrain.
Troop dispersal
The Germans need to enforce their left flank, because the British have a definite troop advantage on that side. The German right flank is best suited with a fast retreat, although I have won one game by destroying two armor and two infantry units on that side. germans on the right. Still sdnative clocked me good on that side when I played the Germans I got 1 unit he got three. I should have retreated that time, but no, I was too greedy.
Troops
Here also the British have an advantage. For me not the engineers, although I did clear a mine now and then that did not bring me a very clear tactical advantage. (As the brits tend to go up the road rather than through the terrain.) And I think I have never used the close combat full dice either. But the special troops running two hexes and battling I have used every time. Almost always in the first turn against those Italians in the palms. As I am sure we almost all did.
But more importantly are the Germans with the anti tank guns. They seem to be an advantage but they are like a lead ball tied to your leg. Now and then I have taking some good shots at an armor unit but mostly they stand around and get ticked of slowly by tanks at maximum range or the infantry when the sun comes up fast enough. I feel changing those to normal infantry (or even special troops) would give the battle a whole other dynamic, and increase the Axis chances of winning enormously (more than we might expect even).
So on the whole: a very enjoyable scenario with, to my mind, a definite advantage for the British. But not unwinnable by the Germans.
The score
The score was more Axis after last round but now the balance is going the opposite way with a vengeance!
Let's see if Jaykay2010 can win over Lucky91. But that will be hard for him, as Lucky knows the lay of the lands around Kidney Ridge like the back of his hands and his men have had many a taverne brawl in El Alamein and are more than ready to take on the AXis and move on! (of the board )
Go Allies!

Well played game Jeronimon!
I do think that the German Anti-Tank units are like a lead ball, The British armor can sit on a sand dune from 3 hexes away fire 2 dice and whittle away the AT unit, Not being able to move and shoot is a problem for the German,
Replacing some of those AT units with Regular or Elite units would change the dynamic quite a bit.
Also the British Engineers never played much of a part in the games as the minefields are spread out and not much of a hindrance. the Elite were more valuable.
Anyway thanks Lonney for the interesting and fun scenario.

Well done Gentlemen I see my excellent teamleadership, guidance and coaching is paying of.
@LooneyLlama
Around El Alamein I agree that the best for the Axis is moving everybody from the right to the left, but it is so tempting to take them on on the right when you have some cards for it. Furthermore, you have to be quick about it or the Allies will have chewed up a considerable amount of your army by then.
But what's life without some challenges.

Most worthy opposing teamleader and exalted high commander Droopy,
Have you given any thought to who your 2 point player will be the next round?
Or are you still stunned by our enormous victory. (Unconditional surrender is always an option. )

Sorry for the wait, I'm back online just this morning.
I must first congratulate you, team allies, for your total victory this time ! We'll make sure it does not happen again
Besides, dear Jeronimon, you know unconditionnal surrender is NOT an option . We'll fight to the end to achieve victory. It was only one battle, war still rage on ! !!
For the 2 pts, I have the feeling after such a defeat that I must expose myself on the first line... So I'll be the 2 pointer this round.
It's time for revenge Axis ! Clean your weapon, load them, and go hunt some allies down!!

Yes, yes, back online just this morning, needed some time to lick your wounds no doubt.
A cette manche on donnez les deux points place a le vainquer du WW44#4 : le tournoi 3 étoiles.
(For this round we will give our two point place to the victor of WW44#4 : the tournament of the three stars.): Lucky91!
Tremble before the onslaught of his mighty army.
The line-up for this round will be:
Artimon v Jaykay2010
Jeronimon v Trentdep
LooneyLlama v sdnative
Lucky91(2) v Clorofila
van Voort v Droopy (2)
Gentlemen,
From a reliable source we are warned that the enemy want's to do to us as we did unto them last round. This of course cannot happen.
Briefing:
We are holding Kassarine Pass and a terrible sandstorm will probably hit us in the morning. So we are not expecting the enemy to attack during the storm. But if they do we will not get any air support. So use your artillery for fire support.
Eisenhower wants us to hold our positions as long as possible until reinforcements arrive. But if necessary fall back and make contact with those reinforcements yourself.
Beware you cannot attack when on a bridge.
Good luck! And remember: let's be careful out there!

Kasserine Pass, I have to say, is my least favorite map by Eric, so far - one of them had to earn the spot
This does not stain Eric's work at all, mind me: I consider LooneyLlama's brand as a guarantee of the highest quality work!
But Kasserine Pass clearly loses to its pairs in 2 aspects:
1) It's an armor-fest like no other, enhancing luck impact on the game (cards + dice);
2) The fact that there are 4 allied units so close of the last hexes line of enemy units makes the starting hand of both sides critical, again enhancing luck influence on the match.
In my opinion, 2) would be negligible if it wasn't for 1). But the two of them bring an extraordinary boost to luck dependency of the map.
Is is also a very unbalanced scenario, with the advantage being on the German side. Allied artilleries are rarely put to good use, with all the tanks. The possibility of exiting allied troops helps but is not enough to give both players equal chances.
I'm no expert on Memoir 44 at all and play just average, so my judgment is worth accordingly! Still, I wanted to let Eric and the other players know about it.

Andre',
I have no problem with your critique. Truthfully, I was a little worried about this one. It had a lot of very good reviews when I first published it. However, I still wasn't sure it would go over well as I knew it would be a slugfest. The Germans don't have much of a strategy other than wipe the Allies out as fast as you can. The Allies, though, have to balance attacking with withdrawing. It's kind of like 'Escape via the Coastal Road'. Early cards and dice are much more important for the Germans than the Allies. The Allies were soundly defeated in this battle and I wanted to give the impression of desperation on their part as they were getting overrun. Let's get through this one quickly and hopefully the next battles in Sicily are better.

The good reviews might be made by "armor" fans. There are players who like to race around the desert shooting up everything. Quite unsophisticated and unfair. (Unless they are my tanks of course.)

Just an update:
With two battles to go in the 4th round the Allies remain in the lead 13-10.
Once Droopy vs. Van Voort and JayKay vs. Artimon finish we will move on to Sicily. In Sicily we will play 3 battles (some of you have already had a sneak peak) and then move on to mainland Italy.
General of the Axis forces(Droopy) will be in charge of selecting opponents. Jeronimon will let him know who our 2 point player will be.

Well, I'll talk about it... And there's not much to ad to Van Voort post. The cards were even I think, but dices were ridiculously in my favour.
17% on armor for him. 55% on infantry, 50% on armor and 33% on arty for me... That says it all.
Typically the kind of games I do not like, cause they are not fun for anyone. There's no fight, just a butchery.
Sorry Van Voort. I really hope the next one will be more interesting, and disputed... I look forward to it
It still brings us 2 points. Cheers ! (even if winning them like that brings no real joy :S)
A bad game. It happens unfortunately.
Good job Axis ! You just have to finish the job Jaykay
Let's pack your things for the trip to Sicilia. I'm already on my way.

Ok, the North African campaign has concluded. It was a hard fought series of battles. The Allies have a slight edge 14-12.
Victory is far from assured for either side. We now move on to Sicily. Our first encounter will be the German and Italian 'Counterattack at Gela'. The Axis will attempt to push the Allies back into the sea.
As I said before, Droopy sets the opponents and Jeronimon lets him know who the 2 point player will be. Good luck to all,and especially have fun.

I just played Counterattack at Gela against the AI and I got the two medals for destroying the Tiger tank, but when Hermann rolled his armor into Gela he got only one medal! (Instead of the two he should have got according to the description.)
Hermann got quite angry at that and used some foul language. My german is reasonably good, but I learned some new words today. Does AI Johnny go on a rant too when a scenario does not work properly?
