3 star mission with more than 100 votes! Tue, 30 October 2012 20:24
My scenario the Liberation of Minsk now has a three star rating with over 100 reviews!

The mission is a historical set up and focuses on the battles between Rotmistrov's 5th Guards Army and Kampfgruppe von Saucken that were part of Operation Bagration, the great Soviet 1944 summer offensive.

Not played it for ages, dunno why, as its superb. I've actually drifted away from sftf recently but will give 'Minsk' as go to get me motivated again.

Jokull,

Your scenario was selected for an on-line championship on the French forum. That may explain why it has been played a lot.
But more importantly, it is a very good scenario, that I enjoyed playing. You can apply different tactics for both sides and you have room to manoeuver, which is great.

Thks

Saw this a LONG time ago. It combines the speed of Arracourt with the fun of RBF. One of my favorite scenarios, SFTF or Official!

Just goes to prove that you do not need a scenario cluttered up with all types of terrain to be fun and exciting.

I really dislike this scenario, it is too much of a dice fest and having the massive all-out cards from the start.
But the truth is that it is a success and merit is all yours: congratulations Jokull!

I like it.

It is a dice fest, but it eliminates the problem of other tank battles (high luck factor) by having a high medal count, which allows for luck to turn during the game.
And it is a high medal count battle, which eliminates the problems of other high medal count battles (they can seem to be going on forever - they take too long) because you get to roll alot of dice.

The well placed terrain allows for just the right amount of tactical choices.

As one who has written a lot of SFTF, I congratulate Jokull on his achievement. I think it is an excellent scenario. I know it ends up being an armor slugfest, but there are strategy considerations for both sides. Bravo!!

Thanks,

I didn't know.

But it is also one of the first SFTF here. My first one used special rules but they didn't work very well and I was designing a large battle for another game (http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=53&art_id= 3101) and did it as a dry run. I am quite proud how well it plays with no special rules.

The actual battle runs close to life, Kampfgruppe von Saucken did meet Rotmistrov's 5th Guards Tank Army and they grinded one down. Von Saucken won a tactical victory and allowed several german units to escape and Rotmistrov was sidelined, but it was a hallow victory, the Soviets overran the Germans everywhere else and the Germans had depleted their precious tank reserves.
