Reading onyx and stemayf. Rewording fast, this is how I read it, not necessarily their exact intention.

To sum up : we might be open to change but there's not really anything negotiable. If you want changes, better create a new tourney --which wouldn't find any place where to fit in a calendar-

Perfeclty fine by me, I've played all 3 CL, and that would put a final point to this discussion.

Quote:

2. No ELO limit - NO. Without the limit, we get teams with far too great power. The ELO limit acts as a handicapping system for participants. Who wants to play in another team competition where the same teams/players always progress? I'll tell you: only those players. Selfish and elitist, IMO.

Well, despite ELO limits, we still have an unbalanced competition. If you are new, or just a 1500 player, that restriction doesn't give more chance to play with good players.
American, German and French leftovers around 1500 are good to play together.
With all due respect, Ewil was nothing comparable to G70 or ACE in the last CL.

xbomanx + Rui + foude + stemayf is quite close to the elite.

Any player wanting to sign up for CL wants to have the most competitive team as possible and is still selfish or elitist.

Players like Knockando, GFF and Tinman do not have as many chances as Kostas, GSV or stemayf to be part of a strong team because they are part of a bigger country.
And being top 50-100 is definitely a second choice when you can have a top 20-50 for the same price.

Being lower ranked doesn't mean that have no chance to win the event. But winning CL would require major and repeated upsets.

I think that thread has been one of the most interesting I've read in a long time. Some good ideas really popped.

Without any negative connotation, it's hard to get the players out of their "2p USA comfort zone" and have them play something different.
And we discussed it with Drake, it's hard to make any changes for any tourney. People are either already statisfied, not interested or worried.

I don't know how many people are really interested in some rule updates. Satisfied people are usually quiet and most writers in that thread act more like contributors rather unsatisfied people.

there's not much to suggest for an update - the format is very well-thought-out and has proven to be good in the last 3 years.

The ELO limit could be discussed over and over again.
I stay with my view that anything ELO based is crap in general, and that it's specifically strange that you have to split last year's team in case you happen to be above the limit this year.
But well, it's quite clear that this is also not really negotiable.

Onyx' idea sounds good to me

"One half of the Team members must be from different countries, and no member of your team can have been on the same Nation's Cup team in the past year."
.

I think, this will also give us more teams (with the current rule, at least mathematically, if all Germans would like to play they would eventually run out of possible team mates from the smaller countries).

Thx to the organizers for doing the work once again!
