Plans to play Memoir '44 this holiday? Thu, 13 December 2012 04:32
As the holiday season gears up, I would normally be figuring out when I can play some games of Memoir '44 (maybe a Campaign from the CB#2) and I would be lining up victims...er...opponents.

This year we'll be traveling, though, so the Memoir '44 plans will have to either be online or wait until another time.

Is anyone else creating plans to play some great Memoir games this holiday season? Please share! Very Happy

We will be internet free Shocked Shocked Shocked between Christmas and the New Year. So it might be TTR (various variants) face-to-face with the extended family.

Before and after that it might be M44 (equipmennt back has finally reached this end the planet) ftf with my son. I'm sure there'll be some time for M44 online - there is a tournament to finish.

BTW: May you all have Happy Christmas and get lots of M44 expansions as presents.

We'll be internet free for a while this holiday as well. I'm actually looking forward to it a little bit. Smile And TTR is a great idea for family gatherings! Are you going to try the new Africa map?

Enjoy the Equipment Pack! It's a fun expansion with some exciting units and new rules, so I hope you have fun with it. Cool

Indeed. Merry Christmas to everyone (a little early) and I hope you all get the expansions you're hoping for. Very Happy

I'll try the latest TTR when it arrives in New Zealand.

I have the choice to order from DoW, get it asap and the freight doubles the price, or wait (months and months) for it to arrive in NZ and save money.

Yes, that sounds like a good choice...enjoy the version you have and save the money for when the new one arrives. Smile

Hello,

we plan to finish a couple of campaigns we are running: "Break through Normandy" with teamed sides and "The Fall of Poland" in the traditional 1vs1 style.

Also we have planned a couple of special sessions: 2 OL maps on a 3vs3 or 4vs4 format. Probably we will be playing:

- The Cadets of Saumur
- Offensive on Saint-Ló

And myself need to finish a campaign online against Flemish Havy. Hopefully soon!

Regards!

I have a bunch of campaigns running on vassal.

Island Hoppers with stevens.
Fall Gelb with Bart.
2x Fall of Poland with Gudjon.

I don't know if I'll get in any f2f Memoir this Christmas, but I'll try. Have the last American branch of Break Through Normandy left versus a friend.

And waiting for the scenario booklet, so maybe a game or two solo.

I'm always playing Memoir '44, so holdays are no exception. But for holidays, we'll break out a variety of other board games that haven't been played in a while and a few new ones.

I'm Expecting Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear 2nd Edition in the mail next week, so will definitely be playing that, and Race to the Galaxy, Agricola and Suburbia are likely new games to land under someone's tree this year.

Also, probably breaking out the old Combat Mission PC game (Beyond Overlord). I've been missing that a lot. If you're not familiar, this was basically Advanced Squad Leader for the PC.

Greetings all,

It was a Public Holiday here in South Africa today, and I got in 5 face to face games with my buddy, just over 5 hours gaming.

What a treat, OK so there was a break for a trip to the local liqour store to replenish supplies, dehydration is a dangerous thing in battle.

We did Kampur, from Bicycle Blitzkrieg. I was very fortunate to win all 5 games - a couple of near run things though.

And that will probably be it for this holiday. I'm off to UK to visit my mum, and when I return, straight back to the office.

I have bought myself a Samsung Galaxy Tab, so I might try some online gaming instead - I have 11 hours on a aeroplane to take care of before anything else. Hope the in flight mode works.

Happy gamimg every one,
and have a cool Yule,

Fred the Obscure,
Durban, South Africa.

If all goes well I have a friend coming in for a visit and we will play the 54mm variety of Memoir 44. I have been painting fresh troops of late, so I am hoping to have more options available.

When my friend comes to play it also means that we will enjoy high quality brews during our gaming sessions. It's what I like to call a win-win scenario.

I played "The Battle of the Bulge" yesterday and lost as allies.
This BoB; http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/editor/view/?id=6736

I got down to a single artillery unit in Bastogne that was holding off the Germans until they did a coordinated attack with three infantry units. The last infantry unit rolled the last grenade needed!

According to one of my documentaries, my friend was, for four turns, attacking piecemeal like the Germans did. They would move up one unit here, and then when it came under attack, they would move it back. Then they would move up a unit there until it came under attack. The Americans were using a rotating defense ring plan because they didn't have enough troops to cover everywhere. According to this documentary, if the Germans would have done a coordinated attack, they probably would have won at Bastogne.

In this photo, my last unit (the artillery unit in Bastogne) took out most of the armor attacking it:
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg214/ronh51/Games/1218183307_zpsab6b8e65.jpg

In this photo, they finally attacked en-mass and took out my arty unit:
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg214/ronh51/Games/1218185324_zps81a49510.jpg

But then history does have 20/20 vision and you can see things that you couldn't see in the heat of battle.

I only needed to kill one more unit, which is why he was pulling his units back when they took hits.

"The Battle of the Bulge" http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/editor/view/?id=6736

Sir, the rules say: " Engineers may attempt to blow up the Meuse River bridge" i gess that must be a mistake since there is no Meuse river on the map, but you probably mean 'both bridges ' in teh scenario i gess.

But what rules to use ? Rolling Eyes

Do the Engineers attempt a 'Sabotage ' to blow up the bridge ?
Rolling '2 dice' or there b'attle dice' (might be 3 or even more when ordered by 'tactic' cards) and is it destroyed when hitting a Star !?

Do they have to be ON or NEXT to the bridge !?
I gess they should be next to it, if not they are blown up with the bridge ? Shocked

Or do you use the 'Blowing up bridges rules', in which case i gess it needs specification for what options are valid, 1 or/and 2 ?
And do the engineers have to be adjecent to them ?
' Your scenario tends to say so, since you specify, ' engineers can blow up the bridge'
In which case this is ' a scenario specific rule ' that needs to be mentioned ! Rolling Eyes

Thx for the info in advance.

It looks a great scenario to play and will shurely do so when i find the time.
Might i challenge you to make an appointment sir 50th !? Surprised

You are right! It should say the Ourthe River bridge. The original standard scenario had the Muese River, the breakthrough scenario was slightly different.
